Title: [Wii] Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii
Post by: skiaak on August 30, 2015, 06:13:32 PM
NEWER SUPER MARIO BROS WII ON PIANO PROJECT!!!

Basic Information
In case you don't know, Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii (http://newerteam.com) is an unofficial mod for New Super Mario Bros. Wii which is completely legal to play developed over the course of 3 years by devoted Nintendo fans, so I thought I would start a project to convert the game's soundtrack to piano sheet music. LifeMushroom and kinoko actually started the project a while ago here (http://mariomansion.net/thread/27-newer-on-piano-project/), but the formatting needs to be fixed and add metronome markings...

Here are the songs that will be arranged:
You can download (http://dirbaio.net/newer/NewerSoundtrack.zip) the song pack here.

How this works:
1. Claim a song.
2. Submit the link to me when you're finished.
3. When songs have undergone the reviewing process, a review tag will be added.
You may claim as many songs as you would like, but each must be a full attempt.

I have something bad to tell you.
Since this is not an offical song, it needs to go in the music board.
Yes, the board no one ever fulfills requests in.
And you requested way, way to many songs for one thread.

Maybe this could be an unofficial project thread then.

Maybe, but it still belongs in the music board.

I'll double check the soundtrack, but usually a lot of the songs are just newer sounding versions of older video game songs. So if we do the corresponding older song (or have it done already), than that should suffice, right?

I'm pretty sure I took out ALL of the remixes of the (newer sounding songs). These are custom music that the Newer Team composed, themself.

Yep, just realized that as you posted that. I got quite a bit to do now, but maybe I could work on them as a side project in my Misc. Arrangements?

Sure, thank you! :)

You might want to invite someone to work with you too, or maybe a whole team.

Just so that you know. These song will (probably) never be submitted to the main site, because it is a game mod and therefore can give us trouble with copyrights. Still there are awesome songs I agree, and awesome game, I've played it!
Title: Re: [Wii] Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii
Post by: skiaak on August 31, 2015, 07:41:06 AM
These songs are composed by the Newer Team and are not remixes by Nintendo, I omitted all of the remixes. Also, it is completely legal to play, so I don't get the copyright issues...

Anyway, I agree. This was an awesome game, that is why I really want there to be sheets for this. In my opinion even, I thought the quality of this game was better than the original, having gravity and new enemies, and a completely new world design from that of the DS, which inspired Nintendo's NSMBU. I wish this was official, but whatever...

Anyway, I hope this can get started...

Still needs to be moved to the Music subforum.
Title: Re: [Wii] Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii

Newer isn't an official game and won't be submitted to the site. Therefore I don't really want to join it.
Also, you don't have any of the MIDIs. And XML isn't necessary; MUS is. Why not get Finale Notepad 2012?

Damn it. If you have time though, please consider to help out.
Title: Re: [Wii] Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii
Post by: LifeMushroom on August 31, 2015, 12:46:51 PM
Why? It won't get accepted onto the site anyway. Newer is dying anyway. Not as a hack, but many people have played it already and the hype has died down a little. What's the point in doing this huge project?
Title: Re: [Wii] Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii
Post by: skiaak on August 31, 2015, 12:48:29 PM
Just so that all the soundtracks can be played on the piano. Newer deserves more attention on its songs, above all. That's why this is here.

UPDATE: Bowser Bridge has been fixed up and edited. Added to the list!

Was the MIDI available or did you look at the PDF? I forget.

Post by: skiaak on August 31, 2015, 12:56:29 PM
I looked at the PDF and listened to the soundtrack. I used an online metronome to determine the beats. I changed up several notes and their octaves too because they didn't sound quite right.

May I claim the mountain please? Thank you.

A quick question: If I am using Finale Notepad, how can I covert it to an XML file?

Just some feedback: you should probably put some information like game name, composer, copyright to keep the sheets consistent.

Click Export as XML. You could also give me the MUS file if you want.

I have the game name, which is Newer, and the composer and copyright are also included as well.

Hey, just wanted to point out a couple things.

-Firstly, I think you should limit file formats to PDF, MIDI, and .mus. Why? First of all, those are the ones that are accepted on NSM, and even though these songs won't get accepted, it would be more friendly for our users if we established the same pattern. Besides, the xml format is just a simple click away from .mus. I wouldn't even list the other file types that are not accepted, people should know that.
-In addition, I think we should make a project template based off of the one here. (http://forum.ninsheetmusic.org/index.php?topic=481.0) All you have to do is open the template on that page in Finale, put in info that would be the same for all sheets (Game Title, Copyright, and Composers) and then post a link to the template on the OP. Then, people won't have to go through the hassle of doing that themselves every time. Plus, the format would be more uniform when you compare it to normal NSM music. Your text right now is in the right places; we just need to change the formatting a little.

I can't wait to help with this thing! I'm really sad I never actually played through the entirety of Newer. Once I finish up all the other stuff I have promised to do, I'll get to this. Promise!

Sorry. If Finale Notepad was portable, I would have made mus required instead of optional. I don't want to go around asking people to convert to mus for stuff like this.

What exactly do you mean by "portable?" Finale is an easy, free program to install, and it isn't even hard to transfer from MuseScore to finale...

Err I don't have my own computer so I can only install Portable apps on my flash drive.

No. Finale is not free. Notepad is free, but its only goal is to frustrate you into buying finale.
But really, if you can afford Finale, get it.

Well, since this site is Finale based, and you seem to be one of very few with this problem, maybe we should make the 3 I mentioned the required ones and I'd be willing to convert yours to mus.
