(Don't have a Wii U, sorry)

GameXplain has some good level ideas; they've recreated some Super Mario 64 levels and they highlight community creations. A good source for inspiration, imo!

Co-opted the thread for it to be a general place for all things Super Mario Maker.

Post level codes of stuff you made, levels you found you think others would like, questions, tips, neat things you've discovered. This way the main Mario thread isn't overwhelmed by SMM talk.

Good idea.

Anyway, this game really did surprise me. I mean, it is a level editor, but it has many more possibilities than I could dream to imagine. And it is user friendly! I think that the coolest and most interesting feature I've noticed so far is what happens when you place blocks. Of course, it plays the melody of the stage you are working in. Upon further examination, you realize that this is not simply the pitch, but rather a distorted voice saying the name of the block! Maybe I'm dumb for not realizing that right away. I don't know. But I haven't even gotten to attempt to make levels utilizing all layers of the palette. Oh yeah, and if you wanna know how to get them really quickly, let me know. There is kind of a quicker way since it doesn't go by the nine day thing anymore. Ok, but the final thing I wanted to point out is costumes. Sure, when I heard that you would be able to play courses with costumes even if you don't have the Amiibos for them, I was happy. But I still wanted to be able to create courses with costumes, and I don't really have the cash to go out and buy like 100 Amiibos. That's where the 100 Mario Challenge comes in. I can just beat that on easy like 100 times and pick up all the costumes with no extra charge! The easy ones can take as little as 10 minutes to complete (depending on your course draw) so you can get all of them fairly quickly. Well, that's about it for now. Can't be making levels while I'm typing, right? ;D I hope everyone understands that this is totally worth the $60 pricetag. Good luck creating!

I have bad news for you. Eventually, the easy and medium difficulties of the 100 mario challenge will stop giving you costumes.
You can get them all, but you will need to beat it on all difficulties.
Also, you can't lock a mystery mushroom unless you have the amiibo, from what I've heard. Without tapping the amiibo, putting it in a course will just give a random suit you've unlocked when you put it online. I may be wrong on this one, though.

I was wondering if the difficulties would do that. Not surprising. Do you happen to know how many you can get on easy and normal before I have to jump to expert? Just curious.
Also, I think you can set which suit the mystery mushroom is, but I'll have to double check.

You can set the costume in the mystery mushroom by tapping the mushroom after placing it on the level.

That's what I thought. Was pretty sure that was the case.

On a different note, does anyone else think that for the overworld levels in SMB3, SMW, and NSMBU, you should have the option to choose between the regular and athletic themes? Of course, that could be difficult if you wanted to include an option for SMB, since it doesn't have an athletic theme...I don't know, just a thought. Also would be cool if for the SMW castle levels, if it could show the little castle intro that it had in the original games. Oh, and ghost houses as well. Once again, the other games have no comparison. But these are just some thoughts I had.

The cool thing about a game like this is that Nintendo can release additional Map Packs and Assets as DLC or something in the future. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if they did just that in a few months.

I am 100% sure that will happen. I mean, you had the two DLC packs for MK8, so this game definitely has some potential for them as well. (SMB2 would be some great DLC, in my opinion. It's actually too bad that they skipped it. Oh, and slopes, that would be an important one...) I just wish that if they were to add the athletic themes, I wouldn't have to buy them (considering they are main themes in the game) although they probably won't be free. Oh well. At least I have the 100 Mario challenge so I don't have to buy the Amiibos (yes, even having to beat that on expert is better than just going out and buying them because I am cheap).

You do know you can unlock the packs quickly by spam placing blocks right? Assuming you place each block in the new set at least once.

Video of a short level I made. A recreation of the Suzy stage from Game Boy Mega Man III.

Yeah. They're missing some stuff that I wish they had. The halfway flag, desert, forest, volcano themes, ability to make your own world map, multiplayer, custom music, etc.
They might even add a new game on DLC like Mario Bros. 3.....idk.

Mario Bros 3 is already in the game. I don't think they'll add in multiplayer since Mario games are traditionally a singer player, or two player alternating, experience. The world map thing seems unnecessary to me, but if love a wealth of music to choose from.

Maybe some stuff in SMB 2 and SMW 2 aesthetics, just without the gameplay style of the latter.

Why not, I suppose I could post more of my level ID's here and with a brief description. Here they are in order.

King Vs King: 7ACD-0000-001A-CF86, a simple level of sorts that I made when I had barely anything to use except some amiibo costumes and a few hazards. Nothing special honestly.

Big Mario Challenge: 109C-0000-001A-DFF5, a level I made around the big mushroom from the amiibo, a puzzle level of sorts where you have to find the perfect time to discard the mushroom or find a way to the exit. Not many people completed this one.

Greninja's Water Obstacle Course: 7662-0000-001B-96D0, which is another simple level that's just what the title says it is. I liked it a little better than King VS King at least.

Bowser's Underground Base: 9CCF-0000-0023-AB82, which I made after getting the SMB3 style. Again, just a short challenge level.

Mega Man's Block Challenge: 4FDD-0000-0029-900A A Mega Man style level I made, nothing special honestly

Temporal Tower: 8041-0000-0031-D9ED My absolute favorite of my levels so far, being based off of the dungeon from PMD2. Ironically despite it being my least favorite game in the PMD series I still like the dungeon a lot so I made a level based around it. Escape from the tower!

Mega Man II GB Wily Stage: 9083-0000-0048-1E3E Another recreation, this time of the final stage in GB MMII, with unneeded screens removed to make it flow better.

Mega Man and Bass Robot Museum: 7B82-0000-0059-72F6 A recreation of the first stage from Mega Man and Bass to the best of my ability. Made it rather challenging and actually ran out of blocks to use so I had to make a compromise at the end.

So those are my levels. Nothing too special but I do hope some of you try them regardless.

I've made it my goal to recreate Mega Man 2 in Super Mario Maker.

My current progress:

Metal Man Stage: 9F9F-0000-0037-4B96
Bubble Man Stage: 0264-0000-004A-BBEB
Air Man Stage: 93E8-0000-0077-572D
Crash Man Stage: 667C- 0000-007D-9711

Heat Man, Flash Man, Quick Man, and Wood Man are under construction. I might do the Wily Castle stages, but I might not.

BONUS: I love the new music Koji Kondo wrote for the Ghost House and Airship levels in SMB1, so I threw together some quick arrangements!

I got some catching up to do on level playing. I'm currently working on a Shifty Boo Mansion (SM3DW) recreation. I'll post it here when I'm done. You know what would be awesome for this game? A Google Docs type environment, with multiple people having the ability to collaborate on a level online at the same time. You know, at least make a "multiplayer" aspect to the game. I wonder how hard it would be to implement that...

Past the Continental Shelf-
4A66-0000-0089-0882
Hammer Time!!-

The one I'm working on is going to be called "It Takes a Wall Jump..."
Just warning you, I like to add little....surprises....at random points in my levels. SO, good luck! (Although you'll probably clear both in one try.) Be sure and star them if you like them, and if you feel so led, leave a comment!

(It's the one I discussed in my last reply to this topic) It took four days total to make and perfect, and now I'm trying to clear it just to prove it's possible. I've tried 7 times (and counting) to clear it, and I've barely made it halfway. In other words, unless I get lucky, it might be a while before I can post the level code...

With the new update, I've re-uploaded some of my stages to include checkpoints.

Air Man Stage: A946-0000-00D7-D9B8
Metal Man Stage: 31FD-0000-00D7-D4F1
Wood Man Stage: 47FA-0000-00D7-DDCE
Bubble Man Stage: 517C-0000-00D7-ED49
Crash Man Stage: 1B78-0000-00D8-0C2A

I've been meaning to get to Flash, Heat, and Quick, but it just hasn't happened yet. Hopefully I'll have time for it soon.

I've also made a couple of music-themed levels:
Disk System: AA27-0000-00BF-441F
Totaka's Song: 8C51-0000-00BF-4271

And I have the record for Don't Stop! Act on Instinct! My courses are:
D3DD-0000-0067-2342 - an auto level that works about 1/2 the time,
8169-0000-005F-E00C for an airship level,
48D2-0000-005F-7FFF for a sprint across the max Fire Bars,
6A20-0000-005E-8713 for a sort of puzzle level,
and if you want my other 2, click on my Mii on one of the first 4 levels.
Thanks!

I'm gonna be back with my Wii U in a few days and messing with Super Mario Maker, so what are everyone's favorite levels? I'm gonna want to try a few!

I'll let you guys see what that is for yourself, if you want to try it.

Actually, I'm wondering how many Stars my levels are at. If someone wants to check out that one, mind telling me how many are on it?

It's been a while since I last played SMM, and I still haven't cleared ITAWJ; I don't plan on it any time soon. I'd say, chances are, I'll randomly play it one day, beat it, and forget the code. But if I do ever beat the level, the code will be going here!

Can we like, collect all the level codes and list them on the OP? Let's not lose any. I want to try all your guyz' levels.

This is actually a pretty good idea. Latios, you should do this after you get back and do superlatives and...wow, that's a long list of things to do...
