Title: Spoil the ending of your favourite video game with no context
Post by: Nitro Indigo on August 08, 2016, 05:09:17 PM
I saw this on Tumblr once, and thought it would be fun. Basically, spoil the ending of your favourite game, but don't tell us what it is, or explain why things happened.

I'll be doing my top five favourite video games, but you don't have to.

The OP doesn't mention a single character's name, and you just did...

...Anyway, my gaming nowadays is almost purely puzzle games on smartphones, and those don't really have plots, so I'll spoil the endings of games I've read about instead. Hint: I've played exactly one of these games:

A bonus that isn't from a video game but is from a game with a storyline that may never end, but this is the spoiler for the end of its latest story arc:

You shoot up a doctor and the heart of an island to stop his wacky (and totally evil) experiments on rabbits.

You killed the bad guy and got your girl back from the dead but she's gonna die in a few years anyway so it's not that happy after all and also everyone fucking dies in the sequel so don't get attached the original cast

Most of your family is dead and a dragon woke up and destroyed the world. But everything's okay.

Turns out that the ancient demon who promised to resurrect your girlfriend was using you and resurrects himself using you as his vessel. The good news is the priest dude seals him away; the bad news is that includes you. Oh, and the demon actually did resurrect your girlfriend. And your horse actually didn't die. Sucks to be you, man.

The evil leader thought it was a good idea to summon the god of antimatter. Just be thankful that your country didn't explode the moment the god arrived.
If that's what I think it is...
If you're talking about Pokémon Platinum, that happens in the middle.

Also, this isn't one of my favourites anymore, but I'm surprised nobody's done this yet:
The evil shadow guy loses his memory after his portal, which is apparently made of glass, is shattered by a dragon.

Story-wise, it could kind of be considered the end... especially given that the alternative option would be pretty much the same across the majority of games in the series.

I've got a few:

A dimension destroying villain gets trapped in a rift and an AI sings during the credits. If the characters and vehicles had physical representations, which they do, it'd hurt to step on.

The giant blue guy gets killed by about 39 different characters. But then a fourth game came out and ditched Adventure Mode.

You catch all the creatures. All one-fiftyo- wait, two-fiftyo- hold on... SEVEN HUNDRED!? Wow, you must have a lot of time on your hands.

The AI dies and sings during the credits.

The AI sends a stupid AI into space and kicks you out. Then the AI sings.

The walking meatball defeats the unborn child and saved his wad of Band-Aids.

The spiky-haired kid and his Disney friends uses a key to kill a fully grown adult. Did I mention that he turned himself into a giant battleship? Yeah.

The Italian men, the princesses, and the walking fungus beats the giant turtle and saves the fairies.

A kid beats up a skeleton guy. Or a flower. Depending on how many people you killed.

Daisy Ridley finds an old Mark Hamill on an island, but as plastic toys.

The robot beats the evil scientist.

You play fan-levels FOREVER.

Try to guess all of them.

You play fan-levels FOREVER.
I've got two answers that are simultaneously valid and wrong, which are far too many:

Geometry Dash
After finishing all the levels produced by RobTop Games, all you can do are make and play new levels (oh, and play the old levels again). Newgrounds music only (the entire OST also comes from Newgrounds).

Audiosurf
All you can do is import music files and play levels incorporating them. (OK, it also comes with presets and the ability to try some online levels.)
Any music files.

You want classical? Audiosurf can do it.

You want VGM remixes on Newgrounds? Audiosurf can do it.

You want concert band? Audiosurf can do it.

Two for the same game!

- You turn your not-so-good brother into a statue, but if you play the series this game is a spin-off of, you'll find that that doesn't last long.

- Your brother becomes king of the rats and spiders, and not in a good way.

A few days ago, I remembered a game that used to be my favourite, though I haven't played it in a while.

As some birds fly away, two people promise to be together forever... while standing on top of a really tall statue with no easy way to get down.

Also, I'm going to redo one of the ones I did in the original post.

The protagonist escapes from a computer void thingy thanks to wish-granting nanoparticles and the ghosts of his siblings.

You have a bunch of dreams about catching someone who falls from the sky, and at the end, you actually get to do that... if you're a good person.

Your lover, whom you created, is thrown into a tank by the villain, whom you also created, and either drowns or lives depending on how fast you beat the villain.

After being brought back from the grave, you do what are *probably* steroids and defeat a narmy-sounding demon god.

-There's a big parade to celebrate your beating the bad guy, and ends with you watching fireworks with your girlfriend.
-The girl you saved sends everything back in time, and you become a kid again. Afterwards there's a big celebration of all the different species in the world.

I mean, with the description it gave, it could also be Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Paper Mario:SS, or Paper Mario:CS.

Though, watching fireworks at the end was technically only in Paper Mario, even though the others included fireworks.

Yeah, that first one was Paper Mario. The boyfriend/girlfriend doesn't really exist, I know, it's just fun to think of it that way. Sorry if that was confusing :P. Here's some more game endings:
-You beat the boss, jump through a portal, and then there's a 20-minute dialogue (Yawn).
-You go through a new world, meeting a dinosaur and his friends on the way, and then beat your mortal enemy, and after which you lead the person you saved home on the back of your dinosaur friend.
-You play a certain sport throughout different parks on an island, then once again overthrow your mortal enemy by beating him (which is actually really hard to do).

3DS, but it sounds more fun than it is. Despite having the quote-unquote "best" minigames in the franchise all in one place, it doesn't have the board gameplay in place to actually tie it together or give the minigames any context or greater significance, so it just ends up being an okay collection of short minigames.
