This year on the first of April, we had an joke-update that insinuated that we were adding sheet music of the entire Undertale soundtrack to the site, only to add the Super Pitfall music to the site in its stead, as a joke. However, today we're not joking around. Thanks to countless hours of work from our amazing community of arrangers, we are more than pleased to present you with THE ENTIRE UNDERTALE OST in the form of piano sheet music. We had previously only hosted 21 arrangements from the title, but we now have all 101 tracks from the official soundtrack, as well as 11 pieces not included in the soundtrack. Shout-outs to NSM arranger Yug_Guy for getting this project off the ground.

Thank you all very much. It's truly an honor.
To think that a stupid little project of mine would get enough support from the NSM community to go from unofficial, to official, and now on-site is quite amazing. 100+ tracks is truly a daunting number, but we somehow managed it in the end. Thank you to everyone who participated, and thank you to the NSM Staff for getting all these sheets nice and polished. I owe you guys quite a lot.
What a wonderful coin-flip indeed~
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Y'ALL DID IT CONGRATULATIONS
I think Olimar gets a gold star for arranging "Mysterious Place," "Ghouliday," "Barrier," "You Idiot," and "Long Elevator." Those were entertaining to listen to and extremely hard to translate to piano.

YES I was thinking this, especially "Long Elevator" was really funny
You don't translate music, you transcribe it.
I believe the term that should be used is different depending on the context.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
that one was too easy
Dude, the way in which he used that word was fine. I hear that all the time. "This didn't translate very well from flute to sax" etc.
But from a sound file to paper?
Quote from: Sebastian on December 14, 2016, 10:23:56 AMThose were entertaining to listen to and extremely hard to translate to piano.
He's not taking about paper, he's talking about from the original to piano+. Also why is this a big deal again? Lol.
But the end product is still on paper tho.
The end product is never "on paper." It is the performance.
I meant what you do as the person arranging it.
...is an argument about the word translate actually happening right now
Translate vs Transcribe to be more accurate
Quote from: Dudeman on December 14, 2016, 04:23:38 PM...is an argument about the word translate actually happening right now
I guess so.
@dude: he's talking about the translation between the original sound file to the arrangement that I made and the difference in their sound based on what I wrote. Despite its name, "sheet music" isn't music at all.
whatever you say, sir
Actually Olimar is right. "Doesn't translate well" is correct when you're talking about music being edited to play on other instruments, so it stands to reason that certain effects could "translate to piano" in an interesting way. Transcribe has a different meaning than what Sebastian was going for.
In music copyright law, one can obtain a mechanical compulsory license in order to distribute, in audio format, one's own cover of a copyrighted song. The same does not apply for sheet music, however. There is no such thing as a mechanical compulsory license for sheet music of cover songs. Why?
Because, the sheet music of one's own cover of a song falls under the category of "derivative work", and for that, private negotiation with the right's holder is the only venue to obtain licensing.
But why is it a derivative work? Here's where it gets relevant:
Quote from: Olimar12345 on December 14, 2016, 04:29:42 PM"sheet music" isn't music at all.
Take this scenario. A vocal piece "covered" in another language would be considered derivative, not transformative, because the words were TRANSLATED. Sheet music is treated similarly, because it's not music -- it's a language.
Conclusion: A piece of fanmade video game sheet music is legally viewed as a TRANSLATION of the source material.

in other words, we gon' get sued someday
I keep reading your posts but they just don't sound correct.
I.A.N.A.L.
I mean, I think I get what the difference is. Translation is moving the notes from one medium/instrument to another, transcription is accurately writing all the notes in the first place.
Exactly, you have to transcribe before you translate
Ah, I see.
Holy crap OST way to go, guys! Much wow
Quote from: Dudeman on December 14, 2016, 05:30:00 PMin other words, we gon' get sued someday
I once published my own arrangement of
Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, and that was my first score taken down by a copyright strike. I always believe that I'm treading on hot coals unless I specifically get permission from the original composer(s) (which I've done a grand total of once so far).
Quote from: Olimar12345 on December 14, 2016, 04:22:21 PMThe end product is never "on paper." It is the performance.
Truly artistic words.
Eh I wouldn't say so much artistic as "the way music works" lmao
Hooray, this project finally made it to the finish line! Congrats to all who helped (and a thank you to whoever fixed up my one submission ;)).
That'd be Olimar again, haha. I tried out your "Hotel" sheet and it's really fun to play! (Surprisingly, not as hard as it looks.)
Dang, those popularity bars today.

Amazing work! Massive props to all involved!!
Wow, that's amazing!! I don't know the Undertale soundtrack very well myself, but I think this is really cool!
