Title: Nintendo SNES Classic Announces, and holy shet
Post by: Olimar12345 on June 26, 2017, 11:53:16 AM
Last time on dragon ball Z, Nintendo made the NES classic and it was awesome but impossible to obtain. (http://forum.ninsheetmusic.org/index.php?topic=8636.0) THIS JUST IN: Nintendo just announced the SNES CLASSIC and it looks to be even more stellar and will probably be even harder to obtain. The line up includes EarthBound, Super Metroid, Yoshis Island, Super Mario World, Zelda alttp, etc. and holy shit: Star Fox 2: the game that never came out.

Edit: some specs:

-Releases 9/29
-21 games total
-$80
-Ships with two controllers

I sure hope it doesn't run out too quickly this time around.

The Switch is $300, isn't it? ...then again, that's just the console without anything else, huh.
And Nintendo's said they're increasing production for the SNES Classic versus the NES Classic, so hopefully you'll manage to snag one.

I was talking to an employee at the local Wal-Mart, and he told me they received 2 on the launch date. 2. And they both sold out within, no exaggeration, 10 minutes. According to him, they haven't gotten any since, and if they were there, they would have been around $300. Now he tells me the best ones are online for $100 more.

After the massive success of the NES Classic and Switch, that makes sense. Thank you, Dudeman; that makes me feel much better.

While I'm definitely really excited to get my hands on one of these (even though I still own most of these games on my actual SNES and on virtual console lol), I have to say I'm puzzled by some of the exceptions...

Aside from the obvious Chrono Trigger, the lack of games like Pilotwings, DKC2, Kirby's Dream Land 3, SimCity, FFIV, and Turtles in Time kinda bothers me a bit. Also, I think this would've been a great opportunity to show off some more obscure SNES games that haven't been released in many parts of the world, like Terranigma, FE3/4 , or Live-A-Live. While the game selection is excellent, and all 21 games here are very, very good, I can't help but notice the big missed opportunities here.

With that said, I am of course very excited to get one.

Hmmm looking at the lineup I'm not actually that excited by this...
Title: Re: Nintendo SNES Classic Announces, and holy shet
Post by: LeviR.star on June 28, 2017, 07:31:26 PM
I guess they just wanted to limit it to 2 Kirby games; a platformer and a spinoff. Now Static, I assure you, if it were 3 instead, they probably would have included Dream Land 3 as well.
Title: Re: Nintendo SNES Classic Announces, and holy shet

I just enjoyed DL3 as a game more than Dream Course lol

Quote from: Static on June 28, 2017, 07:33:06 PMI just enjoyed DL3 as a game more than Dream Course lol

Well, the way I see it, comparing main series games and spinoffs is like comparing apples to oranges.

Good Example (the following includes opinions): Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards > Kirby's Dream Land 3

or... Kirby's Star Stacker > Kirby's Avalanche (by a landslide... heheheh... sorry)

Bad Example: Kirby's Block Ball > Kirby: Canvas Curse (While I think it is, that's besides the point)

Spinoffs are just a way to let loose within franchises. They don't need to follow principles from the main games; they just need to establish their own, while still proving themselves as part of their franchises. That said, that doesn't mean that there are no bad spinoffs; Kirby's Avalanche was a simple port of Puyo Puyo and Wily & Right no RockBoard: That's Paradise was just a monopoly game with Mega Man characters.

Are you guys making sense of what I'm saying, or am I missing something?

Post by: Static on June 28, 2017, 07:53:25 PM
No I understand where you're coming from lol, it's never good to compare main series games and spinoffs. I was just saying that I personally had more fun playing DL3 than I did with Dream Course. They're both fine games, but I just enjoyed one more than the other.

And there is certainly nothing wrong with that. But, too be honest with you guys...

Mini Golf is easier for me than Dream Course. I have no idea why. I just got it last month through the Wii Virtual Console, and have had little time to play it, but have only passed the first course, after many embarrassing attempts.

I once read that Square Enix won't release an English version of Live a Live because they no longer have that game's original source code, so they understandably don't want to remake it from black box testing and first principles.

I wonder how many remakes publishers won't release because of similar reasons...

In case you missed it, preorders went live today and are gone. Supply on preorders is supposed to keep trickling in as the release date approaches, so keep a look out. Included here is a link to many preorder pages for your refreshing needs:

I would recommend actually reading it since it's short.

Here, I'll quote the entire article here to make it easier:

QuoteIf you're thinking about caving in and buying a SNES Classic at those exorbitant scalper prices on eBay and other sites, then stop. Reggie Fils-Aime (which I always read as Feels-Anime) told Financial Times that Nintendo "dramatically increased" production for SNES Classic and that "I would strongly urge you not to over-bid on an SNES Classic on any of the auction sites . . . You shouldn't [have to] pay more than $79.99."

Regarding the pre-order situation at retailers, Mr. Reggie stated that it was not a supply issue and that it was out of their control. The cause for low supply of the NES Classic is that Nintendo anticipated low interest after looking at retro game consoles from other companies.

There you have it. Even if you weren't able to secure a pre-order yet, just wait til September 29 and you should be able to get one without much issue. At least according to Reggie.

I'm in a similar boat. I'm just hoping stock will be good enough that I can pick one up in the afternoon. Word on the street is that TRU isn't allowing people to buy more than  one, so that sounds like the place to be.

I mean if they really do up their production they might come in waves too who knows.
