Title: Nintendo eShop Sale Topic
Post by: SlowPokemon on November 22, 2017, 12:02:41 PM
Do we have one of these? If not here's a list of current eShop sales: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/11/nintendo_of_america_launches_its_eshop_cyber_deals_for_switch_3ds_and_wii_u

Current sales I want to call attention to since they're personal favorites:

Ace Attorney Dual Destinies: $9.99 (AMAZING deal since even on smartphones this game is usually around $15-$17)
Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice: $14.99 (also AMAZING because this game is a great adventure game that's about twice the length of Dual Destinies)

Also want to ask about a few games I'm thinking about getting while they're on sale:
I am setsuna — still not very cheap even with the sale, though the idea of a JRPG that won't take up a million hours of my time is appealing.
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Seasons — at $2.99 apiece I am extremely tempted here. Are they good? I've never really played a 2D Zelda.
Rhythm Heaven Megamix — as rhythm games go, how is this?

good, unique, easy to clear, hard to 100%, little bit of a slow start (more obvious for veterans though), great music, and uh... a lot of "creative" minigames

yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes all of my yes
They're both really vibrant and colorful, the worlds feel alive and unique, the dungeons are great, the soundtrack kicks ass, the items are really unique (especially the season and time gimmicks between the two games), the freaking linkage mechanic is genius if you have both games, just, just get the games, you won't regret it.

The only rhythm game I have played is HarmoKnight, which I LOVED and 100%ed / gold on everything. It's been four years or so since I played it so I'm thinking I might like another.

This is encouraging, but is it okay for my first 2D Zelda? Should I play Link to the Past first?

Now that I have a real adult job as a temporary elementary music teacher, I have a bit of extra money for games.

Nah, I don't think ALttP needs to come first. I had both ALttP and Seasons when I was a kid and I preferred Seasons. A Link to the Past is a masterpiece, certainly, but it definitely feels larger and more mature. The Oracle games feel cozier, friendlier, and quirkier, and I think you'll have more fun playing those first.

Okay I bought them but when I get to them which one do I play first, Ages or Seasons?

It doesn't really matter.

But using the all N password is fun if you beat the game already

I'd recommend Seasons first since it's less heavy on puzzles but yeah, it really doesn't matter.

Play seasons first because you won't be able to play it after ages. I wish I would have showed up early enough to tell you to start with Link's Awakening and then to skip seasons.

I am so bad about eShop buying. Since the sales are ending, I finally caved and downloaded both I am Setsuna and 1-2-Switch!

...as if I didn't already have enough games to play.

New 3DS eShop sale. Making note of it because the Professor Layton games, which never go on sale, are all discounted. And they're my favorites so yknow highly recommended, etc.

Full list of games here:

Was thinking about picking up Yo-kai Watch but it's STILL pricey even with the sale

There's a SWEET Capcom deal going on right now in the U.S. Highlighting it because of Ace Attorney, which are all discounted and at a GREAT price, but there's lots of good stuff here:

Nintendo 3DS:
Mega Man Legacy Collection - $5.99
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney - $9.99
Monster Hunter Generations - $15.99
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies - $8.99
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice - $11.99
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy - $11.99
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - $5.99
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate - $8.99
Resident Evil Revelations - $7.99
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D - $4.99
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition - $4.99

Wii U:
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - $7.99
Resident Evil Revelations - $9.99
DuckTales: Remastered - $3.74

If you've never played an Ace Attorney game, this is your semiannual push to play one. I recommend starting with the original trilogy, especially since 3 fantastic full-length games for $12 is an insanely good value, but it would be fine to start with any of them if you find yourself more endeared to the 3DS-original graphics.

By the way, is Monster Hunter good/which one should I get if I'm interested?

Oh, the original AA trilogy is available on the eShop? No lie, I've been wanting to play for forever but didn't think they were available. I guess I have to pick them up now!

Yes!!! Trilogy is, like, all-time favorite game material. And this price is kind of insane considering the three games together are 60-70 hours worth of content.

So, the people that I've seen that enjoy the series, literally get sucked in for hundreds of hours. People aren't joking they say that they have playtimes of like 300-600 hours.

But, I dunno if I'd particularly recommend it to you, because I've only seen you talk about story-driven/puzzle games. Monster Hunter has like no narrative whatsoever, it's just pure boss fight after boss fight, hunting one huge monster after the next, with endless grinding to get better equipment to take down even tougher monsters. That being said, if you do think that you'd have fun with that (constantly learning different boss patterns, trying out a bunch of different weapons), I guess I'd recommend it. There are demos anyway, and I'm pretty sure they give the gist of what the game's about.

In particular I've heard 4 Ultimate is the best out of those available, but I wouldn't really know the differences that well.

Also seconding that everyone should get the Ace Attorney trilogy if they haven't played it yet.

Huh okay. I'm 25 hours into Octopath Traveler and I think maybe another grindy/boss heavy JRPG is too much for anytime soon. I'm working through Twilight Princess as well and between those, my monster-slaying itch is well scratched I guess. Thanks for the advice!

That Ace Attorney 3DS sale is back up. You can get literally the whole main game series (six games) for barely $40, so if you've been on the fence, consider picking one of them up.

The trilogy is getting a Switch port early next year and it will be in HD, so I guess it might be better to wait for that, but I'm willing to bet it'll be considerably more expensive.
