I do like it. 100's a big deal and that's the kind of treatment it deserves. Which, again, is why I wanted to wait until summer.

while I love the idea of rapidfiring 5 games in a row, that's 5 games.  I think we're being optimistic just a tad.

Tell you what, I'll go over to mafiauniverse and ask around for players so that we can get BEEG GAEM with wildly complex gimmicks, plenty of special roles, a story, and more than 2 werewolves.  It's what we deserve.

I don't really see the point of calling games 100.1, 100.2 etc rather than just 100, 101 etc. unless you somehow make them connected and give players the opportunity to be the grand winner, but I don't really see a way to do that.

While I understand where you're comming from, waiting until summer means putting a hiatus on TWG's just because we've reached some arbitrary number of games, which is pretty dumb considering that there are players who want to play. We already have enough players for my game, though (and trust me, it's gonna be awesome).

The "connection" is that they're all celebrating the 100th game; I mean, LLF already did something like that, except they used the term "Centennial Fest 1/2/3." I just thought making that distinction would make it clear that they're all the 100th game. The only issue, as has been brought up, is the number of players and the interest behind it.

Just a heads up, but with the current number of players, that game is a bit human-sided, especially with a reviver.

TWG 100: In the Era of the Daytime Moon

The year is 17__; the industrial revolution is in full swing. In a small village in Transylvania, strange things are happening. The villagers appear to be trapped in a bubble that turns the surrounding forest into an inescapable maze, and all day and all night, a bright moon shines in the sky, giving power to a group of cultists who have transformed themselves into werewolves. Food is running out, and the villagers have no choice but to act... but will paranoia and confusion overtake the villagers, will they be picked off one by one by the werewolves, or will they succeed in wiping out the werewolves and saving their village?

During a special "Phase 0" the players vote (via PM) on whether to have a day start or a night start.

Wolves:
1. The Black Wizard: During Phase 0, the wolves collectively decide who will be the Master Wolf; then, the rest of the wolf roles are randomly dispersed among the remaining three wolves. Also has a shaman power that can be used every night/day phase depending on whether the game is a night or day start.
2. (Painter) Wolf: If the Seer chooses to be a Daytime Seer, then each phase, they can choose to temporarily alter the role name of one person to whatever they choose. Additionally, they can also choose to paint a player any color. That player is seered and cardflipped as that color. Otherwise, they are a normal wolf.
3. (Roleblocker) Wolf: If the Seer chooses to be a Nighttime Seer, then each phase, they can choose one player. At night, that player's power, if any, is blocked, and during the day, that player's vote becomes zero. Otherwise, they are a normal wolf.
4. Wolf: A normal wolf.
5. Traitor: Counts as a human but wins with their wolves. Their ballot box vote is worth two. Does not know who the wolves are.

Wolves collectively have a wolfing power and a one-use Instakill in addition to the regular wolfing power.

Special Humans:
6. Seer: During Phase 0, can choose to be a Daytime Seer or a Nighttime Seer. If they choose Daytime Seer, they receive both role and color.
7. Vigi: Every night, they can choose a player to kill.
8. Guardian: Every night, they can choose a player to guard. That player is safe from all attacks, paintings, and roleblocking.
9. Mystic: Every night, they are told how many wolves are alive. They have a one-use revive that can be used any phase after the first night/day or day/night cycle.
10. Fortune Teller: Is told they're a normal human. Every phase, it is announced that the Fortune Teller is alive. As long as the Fortune Teller is alive, the players can submit a ballot box vote every phase. If the player who received the most votes dies during that phase, then their apparent color is revealed.

Humans:
11. Normal Human
12. Normal Human
13. Normal Human
14. Normal Human
15. Normal Human
16. Normal Human

Third Party:
17. Hell Baron: A vicious demon from the underworld intent on bringing those who dabble in dark magic to face judgement. Has three perfect seers (not blocked by the painter), four vigis, and one revive. Once per game, can choose to paint themselves green for one day/night cycle, but after doing this, they lose their vote for the rest of the game. Can use any power at any time with a maximum of one per phase, and cannot be blocked by the roleblocker. Their goal is to kill one wolf, kill one special (either by their vigi or by participating in their lynch), and survive until the end of the game.

I think this game is pretty human-sided. Starting on a day phase is always superior for the humans over starting on the night phase, since they'll get the first kill (and therefore potentially an extra kill). I see no reason for the seer to chose to become a nighttime seer, since daytime seering is better and, if you start on a day phase anyway, you don't have any seering results of the first player to be lynched anyway. Choosing day time seer also removes the roleblocker from the wolves team, and makes the painter basicly useless since the seer sees through their color anyway. Now you did add a sniper, but thanks to the Mystic, an alliance is definately going to be set up, and with such a powerful seer, I think humans are going to have an easy time.

TWG C: A Faction Festival

Players will be randomly divided in teams of 3 or 4 depending on the number of players. They will be told what team they play for at the start of night 1. Teams win when all members of every other team are dead.

This game starts on night 0. During night 0, each player choses a role from a previous TWG on this site (except TWG LXXIX and TWG XCVII since those weren't actually werewolf games, TWG LVII because I don't want to deal with deals, TWG LVIII because the post game is incomplete and I don't want to guess what the box keepers did, and the fake roles from TWG LIV, because they were never meant to be used), and they will get to play that role during the game. However, if, after everyone has chosen a role, two or more players chose the same role* then that role will be considered Over Popular (or OP) and will be banned from the game (it will be posted immediately which roles are OP). All players that chose an OP role will have to chose a new role (if they chose a role that has already been taken by another player by that point, I'll notify them privately and tell them to pick a different role).

*Two roles are considered to be the same role if their name and power are the same.

For the most part, roles function the same as they did in their original game. However, their color will be changed into the color of the team the player is playing for, and any alternative victory conditions are removed.

If two or more players select a wolf role, they all send in a wolfing during the night phase. The player with the most wolf votes will be wolfed. In case of a tie, no one is wolved.

If a player is killed, the cause of death (lynched, wolfed, vigi'd etc.) will be posted in the phase update. If a player is attacked, but survives, that will not be posted in the phase update.

Unless stated otherwise, only living players can be targeted. Powers that return results will return no result if the targeted player dies during the same phase.

Guarding protects from any kind of night kills (other than Brutaling, Sniping, targeting a loose cannon and running out of lives), unless stated otherwise.

Psychic powers reveal the number of wolf roles rather than the number of reds and the number of human roles with special powers in the game rather than the number of blues.

Every player will have three lives (because there were so many roles in the past that require lives that it would be hard to make them work without lives). Players can never have more than three lives. Unless stated otherwise, powers that kill, as well as lynchings and wolfings, are insta kill. Revived players will be revived with three lives unless stated otherwise.

Certain roles only work with certain items. If such a role is chosen, the required items will be added to the game (and distributed to random other players unless stated otherwise).

Items are not consumed upon usage, though items that would be consumed instead become one-time use items, that still exist in the game but have no effect (unless their effect is restored by another item). Players keep their items even when they die.

Certain roles require other roles in order to work. If such a role is chosen, unless the other role has already been chosen by another player, a random other player gets the other role in addition to the role they chose. If that player is targeted by an investigative power, only the role they chose will be revealed. Players can only have one additional role, unless there are more additional roles than applicable players.

list of modified roles (continued below)

TWG III

Mason – Required roles: two other masons playing for the same team.
[close]
TWG IV

Sir Deku/Count Dekula – Alternative victory does not apply. Required role: Potion keeper (plays for a different team).

If both guardian duos select a different player to be guarded, then which player will be guarded will be determined randomly. Required role: Guardian duo playing for the same team.

Sensor duo – If the targeted player's original role had a required role, the sensor duo will be told which player obtained that required role (but not which role they obtained). Both sensor duo's will get the result. Can only sensor while the other sensor duo is alive. Only one sensor will go through each night phase. If both sensor duos select a different player to be sensored, then which player will be sensored will be determined randomly. Required role: Sensor duo playing for the same team.

Mr. Mutou – In order for Mr. Mutou's expell power to work, he must call the exact role name (if, for example, he wanted to expell the player that has the Nurse role, he must call the Nurse role, not the Antibane role). Expelling ignores guarding.

Kenji – Immune to color seerings (exept true color seerings). Seers true colors (=team colors).

Shizune – Required role: Misha playing for the same team. Loses her power when Misha is dead.

Misha - Required role: Shizune playing for the same team. Loses her power when Shizune is dead.

Quote from: davy on February 09, 2018, 03:57:57 AMStarting on a day phase is always superior for the humans over starting on the night phase, since they'll get the first kill (and therefore potentially an extra kill).
Yeah, but it's a blind kill.

QuoteI see no reason for the seer to chose to become a nighttime seer, since daytime seering is better and, if you start on a day phase anyway, you don't have any seering results of the first player to be lynched anyway.
The disadvantage is that the day seer doesn't get results until the end of the phase, meaning that their input is useless for the lynch, meaning that if there isn't an alliance (and assuming the instakill has been used already), they have to wait longer to get their information out safely (in order to get another seering out before they're killed).

QuoteChoosing day time seer also removes the roleblocker from the wolves team, and makes the painter basicly useless since the seer sees through their color anyway.
The switcher circumvents that advantage though, and it also affects the cardflips. It gives more advantage to the wolves because the humans can't know whether both painters targeted the same person or not. They could change somebody's role name to "Bob the Builder" but keep their color the same and that could leave the humans (including the seer) just as confused.

QuoteNow you did add a sniper, but thanks to the Mystic, an alliance is definately going to be set up, and with such a powerful seer, I think humans are going to have an easy time.
The Mystic's revival power only works after the first phase cycle. I thought that would be enough to at least give the wolves a chance. but if you think it would be better to have it after the second, then that would be fine too. Additionally, if you think it would be helpful, I could give the Master Wolf a shaman power, and add a traitor (possibly with a double ballot box vote?) with the addition of another player (Bubbles!!!).

That was the first game I ever hosted, and it only went wrong due to a 1/100 chance (or at least something like that). Role reunions do not need to be more balanced than any other game, and this game starts completely balanced due to the fact that everyone starts at the same point. It can only become inbalanced when players make bad (or suboptimal) role choices.

Quote from: BlackDragonSlayer on February 09, 2018, 12:00:51 PMYeah, but it's a blind kill.

Most kills in TWG are blind kills. That doesn't change the fact that it allows the humans more mislynches.

Quote from: BlackDragonSlayer on February 09, 2018, 12:00:51 PMThe disadvantage is that the day seer doesn't get results until the end of the phase, meaning that their input is useless for the lynch, meaning that if there isn't an alliance (and assuming the instakill has been used already), they have to wait longer to get their information out safely (in order to get another seering out before they're killed).

Night phase seers are also useless for the previous lynch, so as long as you have a day phase start, that is not a disadvantage. Giving the seer a day seer means he can even post his result before the wolves have a chance to wolf him, since the seer already knows his result.

Quote from: BlackDragonSlayer on February 09, 2018, 12:00:51 PMThe switcher circumvents that advantage though, and it also affects the cardflips. Sure, but then I'd say upgrade the painter to the switcher rather than removing the most powerful wolf role just by having the seer become a day seer.

I missed the part of the mystic being unable to use his power night 1. That makes the game a lot better. I still think the game is human-sided because humans just have better powers and are more influential during phase 0, so some of the changes you suggested should help.

Also keep in mind that you need to subtract 1 from the player list since you are hosting.

Quote from: mikey on February 09, 2018, 12:38:20 PMYes game 100 should be crazy exciting but it should also be the werewolf game.  It should be a summary of what we want our twg experience to be, and scumhunting is way more fun than seekrit seekrit faction game

I don't know, I have the idea that players have way more fun playing a faction game than a normal game (if I compare our last faction game with most normal games). Also, a problem with normal games is that only a small group of players gets to experience playing as a wolf, a small group of players gets to experience playing as a special, and the rest gets to experience playing a normal human, so no-one gets the full experience with playing a werewolf game. With faction games, everyone gets the full experience of playing a faction game. But if you think it is better to host a standard game, just put it up here and let the player base decide what game they'd rather play.

Quote from: mikey on February 09, 2018, 12:40:18 PMAnother idea: we outsource our game making and get several ideas

See, these are ideas that might have worked if we planned them in advance. Right now, it would only mean having to wait longer until we can start the game, while there are clearly enough players that want to play the game right now.

Wait, do you mean switch the painter and the switcher, or turn the switcher into a normal wolf and have the painter also have an additional switching power? Also, if it helps, I can get rid of the voteblocking part; I just thought the power would be too weak without it.

QuoteAlso keep in mind that you need to subtract 1 from the player list since you are hosting.

Switcher has no advantage over the painter on night phase seers, so there is imo no difference between switching the painter and switcher and giving the painter switcher powers (other than the fact that if one painter dies you still have another if they are two separate roles). The roleblocker is very nessecairy for the wolves at this moment since the wolf powers are very weak compared to the human powers.

Also added a poll. On the subject of polls, THE poll will be up when that one closes (in 48 hours). Raeko, you have until then to post your game.

This is likely the full game I'm using.  If we get another player the wolf team will get stronger, but not numbers-wise.

Quote from: mikey on February 08, 2018, 07:00:27 PMTWG 100: Dinner and a Show

Extremely flavorful story-based TWG.  I'm keeping the story premise a secret for now, but it's making me feel really creative.

Wolf team- as a team, the wolves may choose one player to kill each night.  Wins at parity.
1. Master Wolf- Each night, can send a PM to the host with the name of target player.  If that player is still alive, the Master Wolf receives a PM with the color of that player.  The Master wolf is seered green.
"I smell you... Your fear..."
2. Wolf Cohort- Has no special powers.  Is seered red.
"Fresh BLOOD!"
3. Wolf Cohort- Has no special powers.  Is seered red.
"Fresh BLOOD!"
4. Needy Wolf- If the needy wolf is the last wolf alive, the wolf team loses their wolf kill.  Is seered red.
"I smell... you?"

Human team- wins when all threats to the team are dead.
5. Seer- Each night, may send a PM to the host with the name of target player.  If that player is alive, receives a PM with the color of that player.  Is seered blue.
"No-one and no-wolf will get past me."
6. Brutal Human- If the brutal human is wolfkilled, one wolf at random is killed as well.  Is not told they are the Brutal Human.  Is seered blue.
"Whatever it takes."
7. One-shot Reviver- Once per game, during a night phase, may send the host a PM with the name of a player.  If that player is dead, they will be revived at the beginning of the following night phase.  Is seered blue.
"I'm here for you."
8. Miller- is seered red.  Is not told they're the Miller.
"I'm doing things my way.  Step aside."
9. Traitor- counts for human numbers, but wins with the wolves.  Is seered red.
"You'll all see soon enough..."
10. Sayori- is told she's a normal human.  Is seered Monika.
"There are rainclouds... and they won't go away."
11. Vanilla Human- is seered green.
"Something's wrong."
12. Vanilla Human- is seered green.
"Something's wrong."
13. Vanilla Human- is seered green.
"Something's wrong."
14. Vanilla Human- is seered green.
"Something's wrong."
15. Vanilla Human- is seered green.
"Something's wrong."
16. Khajiit- Begins the game with every item, but cannot use them.  Once each night (except for Night 1), may distribute a single item to target player by sending a PM to the host with that player's name.
"Khajiit has wares, if you have coin."

Third Party- counts for numbers of neither team.
17. M̦̣͓̀ ̟̖Ò̦̦͖͔͖̜ ̡̱̲͓̞͔͖Ǹ͎̳̳͍͖̟ ̜̥̭͕̤ͅI̱͉̥ ̭̪K͇͕̺̭͞ ̫̹̘͇͍A̩̪͢- wins when it's just Monika.  Can't be wolf-killed.  Each night, may send the host a PM with the name of target player.  If that player is alive, becomes marked. Marked players are privately told they have been marked.  When the number of marked players becomes greater than or equal to the number of unmarked players, all living marked players die.  Is seered literally every color except for red, purple, green, and blue.If wolves would win while Monika is still alive, Monika and the wolves both win.
"...What's the point when none of it is even real?"

Items:
Candlestick
Revolver
Rope
Lead Pipe
Knife
Wrench

When a player dies, their role will be revealed.

It was a dark and stormy night.
"Seriously?  That's it.  I'm taking over."
"What?  What's wrong with that?"
"Dude.  It's a complete joke.  It's been a meme since the 1800's."
"But I like it!"
"It doesn't matter what you like, it matters what they like."
"They?"
"Never mind- just give me the quill."
I shoved myself aside and grabbed the quill from my hand.  "Ahh..."  I lowered the quill to the parchment and began to write:
It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.
"Woahwoahwoahwoah.  You just shoved him aside for that,  and now you're quoting Orwell?  Double standard much?"
"I don't need to justify myself to you."
"Yes you do- I am you."
"Hmph.  Fine.  How about this?"  I turned again to face the parchment.  Dipping the quill in the well, I once again filled the parchment with neat, even handwriting.
There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.
"NO!  NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!"
I turned back to me and sighed.  "What now?"  I questioned.
Just then, I stepped out of the shadows.
"Why not come up with something new?  You know, original?  I'm sure they don't want to read something they've heard a hundred times in school alone."
I suddenly perked up from where I had been pouting after I had been shoved aside by myself.  "Who's they?"
"NEVER MIND!" I shouted in unison.
I turned back to look at myself.
"Maybe you're right.  Let's put our heads together.  With the amount of work we've put into this, we may as well get the beginning as good as the rest of it."
I blinked.  Everyone was gone.  I looked around at the cramped wooden attic-space with just a lumpy, mildewy mattress and a writing-desk, kept illuminated by the baleful flicker of a wax candle.  I sighed to myself.  It wasn't pretty, but it was necessary.
I turned again to the parchment paper.  I took a deep breath.  I thought.  I prayed.  I wrestled with myself.  I had to get this perfect.  It was the only way I would finally get it all back.  Everything I had.  Everything I deserved.  Everything I lost.  Feeling the rage building up in me, my hands shaking, I brought the quill toward the parchment.  I finally knew what to write.

That's right!  The first look at my new mystery novel, Dinner and a Show!  Preorder now for 1 vote!

All the factions games I've ever been a part of (on both LLF and NSM) have been stressful, unfun, and usually end with a cheap ending based not on player merit, but luck and other arbitrary decisions (like who randomly decided to ally or side with someone else even if it isn't in their optimal interests).

I like where the poll is now tbh.

I think davy's homeage to previous games is more fitting for a 100th game but it's really a personal preference and there's no right answer. If enough people want to revote because they genuinely changed their mind on which game is best, I'm ok with that. But if it's just to switch votes from BDS's game to mikey's just to ensure one of them wins, then no, that's cheating the system. There's a reason polls are blind - vote for your favorite, not your least favorite.

Also I'm in for whichever game wins, not just davey's. It just made me really excited ;p

Poll results are visible after voting. Allowing players to revote would be unfair since they can see the results and base their voting on that. If you were unsure, you could have waited before voting. If it really bothers you, then next time I can make the results invisible until voting closes and allow players to change their votes.

I think they want to change because honestly my initial writeup of the game was a bit hasty and unappealing
Yes it's too late to do that, yes it would be unfair, and yes that does seem to be the better model for the future
it would just be a shame to let all this creative energy go to waste, you know what I'm saying? ;)

if we get 18 players again and I still feel creatively inclined, of course

The following five players have not responded since my request to re-sign-up:

SuperMarina
raeko
Lkjhgfdsa_77
Bubbles
Maelstrom

If they don't respond before the poll closes, they will be put on the substitute list.

I finally finished my list of modified roles (and I exceeded the character limit so I had to modify Bubbles' post). Please tell my if you see any inconsistencies or have any questions about my game.

Poll closes in 6 minutes and we are tied.

BDS, assuming you didn't vote for either of our games, can you make the tiebreaker vote?
