So my wife and I wrote a trombone duet. I thought that I would share it here to see anybody wanted to give us any feedback or advice. :)

Le sheet

It's a short medley of LDS church songs. Generally trombones are not allowed to be played in our church meetings as they are not considered "peaceful" or something, but the bishop of her family ward said that she could! So she's going to be playing this with her father next Sunday. We're really excited!

Super Smash Bros for the Switch has been announced, and a great deal of speculation has taken hold of the Nintendo community. I thought that it might be fun to make a game of it. The game is simple: guess the characters found in the fiery silhouette.

The picture can be found here.

The picture can also be found in this video.

There are 3 ways to get points.

1) Guess the character: If the character you guess is in the game, that's 1 point.

2) Adjacency bonus: This method is contingent on Scenario A being fulfilled. For every character adjacent to each other that you get correct, you get additive points. For example, if you guess that Mario, Link,  Pikachu, and Kirby are in a row (in that order) and you get it right, you would get 1+2+3+4 points, on top of the 1 point per correct guess from guess the character. There can be multiple adjacency bonuses per post.

3) Guess the amount: This method is contingent on Scenario A being fulfilled. If the total number of characters that you guess is equal to the number of characters in the silhouette, you get 5 points.

The game ends when one of two conditions is met:

Scenario A: If at any point in its advertisements, Nintendo unveils the fighters in the order that they were found for this trailer, the game ends. With this information, adjacency bonus and the correct number of characters can both be accurately counted without speculation.
Scenario A can also be enacted even if the roster is not officially announced. This is contingent on an unofficial roster be made by the NSM community in good faith. The exact details of this procedure will be decided at a later time, if needed.

Scenario B: Smash Bros for Switch is released. If, by the time the game releases and Nintendo does not unveil the character roster shown in the trailer, and an unofficial roster is not created by the NSM community, then only the first point method will be established.

RULES

1) Players must make a post listing the characters that they believe are in the trailer, going from left to right. There is a maximum number of 20 characters per guess list, per user.

Example
1) Mario
2) Link
3) Kirby
4) Pikachu
[close]

2) Players only have one guess. Posts with the character list CANNOT be edited or deleted. Doing so entails immediate disqualification.

3) Player(s) with the most points wins.

Depending on how Nintendo chooses to unveil its roster, there may be a significant time difference between the end of the game and the announcement of the winner. For example, if Nintendo unveils the roster found in front of the logo at E3, adjacency points and total number of character points can be accurately determined. However, the guess the character section will still need to be calculated, so the winner won't be announced officially until the game is released and the full character is made known.

The reward for winning is bragging rights. Have fun!

Help! / Super Mario Maker Second Title Screen?
September 15, 2015, 03:08:19 PM
Hey! So I don't own Super Mario Maker (or a Wii U), so I can't check this myself. My question is: does this song appear in-game? I've already done the original title, and wanted to do this one as well, but I wasn't sure if this song is legitimate, since I can't find any reference to it at all, outside of this one video.

Also, after this question is answered, this topic will be modified to discuss the individual songs, found in this playlist. i.e. What songs have been done in other games already, and what haven't. But I'll get to that point later. :)

Help! / Adjusting the Pokémon Games
July 31, 2015, 12:17:37 PM
While working on the "Unofficial Pokémon Gold/Silver Replacement" Project, I raised a concern about how the games should be organized. This my original post on the matter. Basically, I believe that our current system of organizing the songs from Pokémon games is inefficient, even to the point of being confusing for both arrangers and readers.

A short history of Pokémon games
To fully understand my concern, you need to know the history of Pokémon games. I'm not talking about lore; I'm referring to the actual release dates of the games. Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Red came out in 1996. Yellow followed in 1998. Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver came out in. 1999. Pokémon Crystal came out in 2000. Ruby and Sapphire came out in 2002. Emerald came out in 2004. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and PMD: Explorers of Darkness came out in 2007. PMD: Explorers of Sky was released in 2009.
[close]

As shown by the history, each generation of Pokémon games comes out in a duo. Each initial set of games, music-wise, is the exact same. I'm not aware of any songs found in Blue that are not found in Red, for example, or songs found in Ruby that are not found in Sapphire. However, the same cannot be said for the third game in each generation. There are songs found in Yellow that are not found in either Red or Blue. One example on the site include  "Opening (Yellow)." Arrangers have been working on different songs exclusive to Yellow in the "Fixing Red/Blue Pokémon" Project." These include "Jessie and James Appear" and "Printer Error." The same can be said for the "Unofficial Pokémon Gold/Silver" Project. According to Latios, the songs "Defend Globe," "Sky Peak Final Pass," "Spacial Cliffs," "Team Charm's Theme," and "Splinda Cafe (Duet)" are all found exclusively in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. Most of these songs show this uniqueness by listing PMD: EoS exclusively as its game, and 2009 as its copyright year. But, there is some confusion there, even in the songs that are already on the site. Some songs list "2007-2009" as its year. The majority pick one of the years and uses that. In the end, it's not consistent and it's incredibly confusing.

My solution: list the third game in each generation as a separate game. So it would be "Pokémon Yellow" and "Pokémon Blue & Pokémon Red." Two separate categories on the site. Only songs found exclusively in "Pokémon Yellow" would be included there. Every other song goes in "Pokémon Blue & Pokémon Red." My reasoning is that Pewter City (random example) wasn't copyrighted in 1998; it was copyrighted in 1996. Listing it again under Yellow would be redundant and inaccurate. So it would belong to the former games, and not in the later game.
And, for the sake of consistency, I recommend that we list each individual duo alphabetically. Like so:

Consistency!
Pokémon Blue & Pokémon Red
Pokémon Gold & Pokémon Silver
Pokémon Ruby & Pokémon Sapphire
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness & Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time
[close]

If something is going to be done about this, it needs to happen now. Before these projects fully complete. It will be incredibly more difficult to fix this if we wait until both projects are done.

Of course, I may be entirely wrong. If it's decided that our current system is fine, then I'm fine with that as well. But if we decide to go ahead with my plan (or choose a new, different one entirely), I will personally participate in the project. Or lead it, if necessary. Although most of the work has already been done by Latios anyway. :)

Help! / No Playback in Notepad?
July 10, 2015, 07:12:07 AM
A couple of days ago, I noticed that Finale Notepad was no longer able to playback songs in it. I could hit Play, but there would be no sound, and no green arrow. However, the song will continue to cycle through measures in the song like normal, but it doesn't work like it used to. Everything with the volume is fine; I can listen to MP3s with no problem

This problem even exists for songs that I was able to listen to before. Every song in Finale Notepad no longer works.

Should I reinstall Notepad? I already turned my computer off and on again (not that I expected it to do anything, but why not?), and looked through Notepad's Help section. No luck there.

Any other ideas?

Help! / Butterfly Repeats and Jumps
June 01, 2015, 08:07:16 AM
Okay, so I'm revising my arrangement of Dance Dance Revolution's Butterfly, and I'm having some trouble with the repeats. I can get most of them to work, but whenever I find a solution to one problem, it creates an entirely different problem.

here is the sheet.
reference: (song starts at 0:33)

Every repeat works as intended in Notepad. However, I have very little experience working with Segnos and Codas, and other jumps of that nature. That's why I need help. Most of everything that I need has been accomplished with Musescore, except one. I want to put a repeat at the end of measure 16 (the end of the chorus) that goes back to the beginning of measure 5 at the end of its second iteration. I was able to do this with "D.S. Al Coda" and a Segno sign  with a repeat bar while in Musescore. However, when this was done, it accidentally ignored the repeat bar at the end of measure 12 on the left side during the second iteration; it would still repeat normally from the right (jumping from 16 to 13, as it should). But, it would not repeat measures 9-12, as it is supposed to, normally.

When I converted to Notepad, the Segno and jump didn't work at all (even though it showed the correct sign and everything), but the rest of the song did. I have no idea why.

The link provided works as it should; every repeat acts normally, with the exception of the jump for which I am looking. In short, the song should go like this:
1) play 1-8 once
2) play 9-12 twice
3) play 13-16 twice
4) jump back to 5, then play until 8
5) repeat steps 2 and 3
6) play 17-20
7) play 17-21, ignoring 20

Is that so difficult?  ::)

So, in short, I would like some help with this jump. It's difficult to understand, I'm sure, and I'm beginning to wonder if it's even worth it; would to be better to just leave it as it was, without any repeats?

On a slightly off-topic note, I also need help with some 8bas in measures 8 and 12. It turns out that I can place 8bas in MuseScore, but they face up, rather than down. Is that a problem? I'm afraid that it might be confusing to the pianist as it is now. Especially since they say 8va, even though they are 8ba. Originally the line was below the staff, but that would not be helpful. I plan on adding lyrics to the song, and the line would get in the way of that. Could someone take a look at this for me?  :-\

Music / Frozen - Let it Go [Finished]
January 23, 2014, 09:47:51 AM
Hey everybody! Long time no see! I just need a quick favor. I'm working on an arrangement of the Idina Menzel version of Let it Go from Frozen. What I need is help with the tempo. It fluctuates between 138 and 137. Very annoying. but i think I've figured it out.

What I need is for someone with a higher version of Finale Notepad to add tempo changes into the song.  There's 2-3 places. I've already marked them on the page. It'll say "tempo = 137" above the measure that needs to be changed (and remain changed), until the next line of text that says "tempo = 138". The tempo at the beginning of the song is at 138. The goal is to be able to play both the sheet music on Finale Notepad and the mp4 at the same time and have it remain consistent. In bits and pieces, this is possible. But I can't change the tempo, so I always end of moving ahead of the song. It's...annoying.

Here is the sheet music: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bz-plRR3KJSiSVRqX0FOOVp6N0k/edit

They're free for anyone who wants to play it. The trouble is that I used parts of the sheet music from other arrangers. A necessary evil, due to my lack of music skills. My plan is to present them a finished product, have their permission to use the sheet music, then release the sheet music via Youtube when I eventually play it. Out of respect to them and to prevent any possible lawsuits or whatever. You know. Legal stuff. So for now, please don't release them too publicly. It'll be our little secret.

I'll be happy to answer any questions and concerns. Thank you!

Also, any comments and critique on the sheet music itself would be greatly appreciated. Anything to make it better.

Help! / Hikari MP3 Conversion Request
September 22, 2009, 07:17:27 PM
WAZZUP. And, in case your wondering, I do have a request. I don't know how easy/difficult this would be, but could someone make an MP3 of one (or preferably all 3, if possible) of the following:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg471fIeNb8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUOYZbDhfos (It's really quiet at the beginning for some reason)

The transcription of both (they're the same sheets, so there's only one copy) can be found here:
http://josh.agarrado.net/music/anime/index.php

I've never been into the whole MUS-MP3 conversion thing, and my 9-month absence hasn't helped. I really don't know how it's done. So, if it's way too technical and difficult, just tell me. thanx. You won't even have to slave over it. If you don't want to.  :P

PREFERABLY, I would like a Youtube-MP3 conversion for both videos, and an MUS-MP3 COnversion for the third link. The song can be found under Kingdom Hearts I. It's called Hikari. Composed by Utada Hikaru. Arranged by Kyle Landry. Transcribed by Zorsy. If that's not possible, I understand.  ::)

I'll change the name of the thread tomorrow or something.  ;D

for the newbies that don't get the title, I've been here since March of 08. I was active for about 9 months... and then I left for 9 months... Weird...  :o
But I probably won't be staying. Not for long anyway.  :'(

Any questions?  ???

P.S. I lost my Finale Notepad. I can't read MUSs.  :(
Oh, how I miss the smileys...  :)

Help! / Midi Submissions?
September 16, 2008, 06:36:56 PM
Quote from GMW.  ;D

I have midis from vgmusic that I turned into piano sheets:

examples:
Kirby Block Ball Level 8
Kirby's Level 8 piano sheet

Kirby Block Ball Level 9
Kirby Level 9 piano sheet

Dance Dance Revolution 1st Mix Butterfly midi from vgmusic.com
Butterfly piano sheet

*These aren't ready for submitting yet.
My question is: is it ok for me to submit them even thought they're made from midis?

Off-Topic / Profanity. WHY?
August 13, 2008, 05:31:16 PM
This is a question mainly to the owner/s of this site. And to anyone else who cares.

Why do we allow profanity1? It does nothing to help us. We don't need it. It drives away the younger generations ("kiddies"  >:() IT DOESN"T HELP US.

I'm 16. The majority of the people in my school cuss(see 1). I    do    not    like    it. I've heard many people complain about people here being jerks. I'm one of those people who complain. One of the main things is respect. They, the people who use profanity, do not understand(or care) that some of us do not like it. If it's the not understanding part, fine. Hopefully now they know that not everyone here like profanity.
if it's the not caring, then you'll lose members who would otherwise strengthen this community. If my parents found me on a site with this much profanity, I'd be kicked off. No doubt about it. Then, you'd lose one of your members. You'd still keep those who profane, of course, those who are constantly corrupting this site. And then nobody of any decent value would come.

Am I making too much of a big deal of this? I say NO. I see profanity on just about every page nowadays. I want it to stop. But that's as far as I can go. Wanting. Wishing. Now, I'm acting.

I want this site to grow. I'm a large fan of video game music. But if this problem is not solved, I will leave. I know of other sites. As far as I know, they don't allow profanity. The occasional "damn," sure, but that's as far as it goes. Profanity is actually looked down upon there.

I don't want to leave. But I can't stay if this site is like this. It's not worth it to me. Most people of any decent value are at GMW. They don't use profanity. I can name 6 people off the top of my head who swear on almost, almost, every post. Maybe every other post. But that's too much. I don't even want to see the F-word anywhere on this site.

Thank you for reading my long post. I'm not sorry about it's length; but I feel very strongly about this. Cast your opinions. Reply. Make your voice be heard. Freedom of Speech and all that. I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings in writing this. I truly am.

1Profanity/cuss/swearing: The use of foul words. The F-Word. H-E-Double Hockey Sticks for those who still use that. Whatever. This is not an actual dictionary definition.

Feedback / 8va Question
July 08, 2008, 05:03:03 PM
I know what an 8va is. Just to get that out.

When one with a higher version of Finale wants to do an 8va, should the sheet look like this, or this before that person puts in the 8va? I don't have a higher version of Finale, so I don't know...

Story Telling / The Subspace Chronicles
March 27, 2008, 06:57:43 PM
*SPOILERS BELOW FOR SSBB!!!! SPOILERS BELOW!!!!*

Okay, so due to the fact that we have 3 stories right now, I thought that I might make this. :P
Rules are simple.
1. Every NSM user gets one character from Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
2. HIDDDEN CHARACTERS MAY BE USED. (Hence, the Spoilers warning).
3. Chars such as Yoshi, G+W, Robot/R.O.B., Pikachu, Jiggly Puff, Pokemon Trainer, and maybe some others may be used more than once.
4. For every other, such as Mario and Snake, there may only be one User claiming that Char. For example, I can be "Red Yoshi," but not "Blue Mario."  :o. “Blue Pikachu” and the like may only be used once. There cannot be 2 "Orange Yoshis", for example.
5. Only PLAYABLE Characters may be used. That means: No Primids, Master Hand, or Tabuu, along with the other enemies. The Ancient Minister is evil in…this thing.
6. You cannot kill your or any other character. If you decide to quit, let someone else use your character. You CANNOT KILL YOUR CHARACTER AND THEN CHOOSE ANOTHER.
7. Normal Forum policies must be followed.
 http://www.ninsheetmusic.net/forum/index.php?topic=95.0

So, naturally… I’ll start.

Red Yoshi was walking down the beach, when suddenly the sky grew dark. Red Yoshi looked around, and noticed several small dark dots dropping onto the ground. Looking up, Red Yoshi saw a giant ship coming toward Yoshi Island. It was almost as large as the Island itself.
Red Yoshi ran back to warn his people of the intruders.

So began the Subspace Chronicles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to write notes to others, create a line like this and then write your note.  Are there more than one Lucarios in Pokemon? If there is, then rule #3 applies to it. If not, Rule #4 must be used for Lucario. Thank you!

Nintendo / Fifth Day till Brawl (redone)
March 09, 2008, 03:22:59 PM
This time, I added a poll to it. ;D

Once this poll is over, on Wednesday, the winning poll will be put into the song, and dropped out of the polls. On a new topic, I'll continue the polls without the winner. Then, It'll be narrowed down to the last day.
#20
SO! In five days, Brawl comes out in the U.S. To pass the time, I thought we might be able to sing a song! ;D
The tune is to "On the First Day of Christmas."
Make up whatever, Brawl-related or not Brawl-related.

I guess I'll start:
On the fifth day till Brawl, my mother gave to me: One Mario doll!

As the days go by, we may be able to create a real, awesome song!
... 8)
