Music / Music ed. vs music performance
November 20, 2012, 09:43:09 PM
I'm switching to BM in keyboard performance instead of BS in music education general/vocal. I just get take more exciting courses as a performance major. :) I'm kinda skeptical though, I do want a job in the future. lol  The 100% employment is really making me stay in the program.

Music education basically requires that you take a bunch of general education and music education courses along with your other music requirements. But I am really not liking the music education degree program. I honestly find it very tedious. There are many more exciting music courses you can take as a music performance major! You also get more practice time as a performance major. :) Besides, I can see myself more as a private piano instructor. Yet, people are saying that a music education degree is the way to go.

Would you agree, or is it possible to find success with a bachelor degree in performance? Or in more vague terms, is it best to go after your dreams and do what you love or to take the easy route and be safe? :P

It really seems that music schools nowadays are focusing more on the music education curriculum instead of the performance curriculum. They are constantly advertising about the benefits of being a music education major....and I've visited several universities and went to many school website all saying the same thing: 100% employment.

I've never seen an arrangement of this music on this site and it is one of my absolute favorite from the game. O.o So yeah, is anyone willing to make an arrangement of this?

I'm planning to perform a series of Pokemon music on piano, so I'd love to have that music as one of my repertoire. :P

Edit: I actually had this link on my tab and forgot to copy and paste the link. Here it is anyways:

Home-Made Compositions / Starrgrl's composition
October 09, 2011, 10:27:51 AM
I made this music for my intro to music technology class. :) I used the program Sonar Home Studio, which is a pretty cool program and I already like it better than Fl Studio. Here is the link:

I could have done a bit more with the percussion, but oh well. Some other time. I still got an A. xD I wanted to go for a more "modern" romantic piano style. That's really the only best way I can describe it. It's also a bit...christmasy because of the background percussion. So yeah...tell me what you think of it. :)

Home-Made Compositions / Super Short 8 bit tune
August 12, 2011, 11:45:52 AM

This was my attempt at 8 bit music. It's just a simple melody, bassline, and percussion. I'd love to use a tracker program, but I made this on fl studio with VSTs that mimic the NES/gameboy sound. It's good enough for me. :)

It's looped about 4 times because it is....short. Hope you enjoy it. :)

PC / Terraria
July 20, 2011, 10:20:31 AM
How many of you guys have played this wonderful game? It is based on Minecraft and because I love Minecraft I decided to give this game a try! It's a pretty cool game. It has a higher focus on exploring. I do not want to go into a Minecraft vs. Terraria debate because both have their own advantages. If you like building, Minecraft is the best. If you like exploring, then Terraria is the way to go!

But yeah...what do you think of Terraria? :)

Music / Music Composition Software
June 30, 2011, 07:52:58 PM
I'm just curious to what music program do you guys compose with? (or arrange music) :)

For my composition lessons, I compose with finale so my teacher can actually see the notes. lol I do also use FL Studio to compose as well! I prefer using FL Studio to compose because its ability to use VSTs and it's just extremely flexible. If I wanna make sheet music though, Finale is the way to go. xD I will be taking intro to music technology at my college, so I hope to gain experience with Reason as well. Reason sucks because of its lack of support for VSTs, but the "refills," which are equivalent to VSTs, are still pretty good.

(I am not a composition major, I am just taking the lessons for the fun and experience.)

Music / Music Ed. or Audio Engineering? O.o
June 15, 2011, 04:07:46 PM
I am currently a community college student...what I shame that I couldn't afford to go to a music conservatory...but I am studying music at my college. :) I currently have to make an extremely tough decision, well for me that is. xD

I was accepted into the conservatory as a music education major (unfortunately I didn't attend) and when I first attended my college, I was planning to transfer to a music school as a music education major. As I progressed through my college year, I began to grow so much interest in audio engineering. It's pretty cool because I can also get some computer skills. :D It's the perfect combination of science and music...well at some audio engineering programs. xD I just finished my first year at college and now I gotta face the daunting task of whether to continue to be a music ed. major or switch to audio engineering. o.o;

Sooooo...what do you guys think?

I am a piano major under the performance curriculum...so I will be getting a piano performance degree as well. :D

Piano Arrangements / starrgrl's arrangement
June 13, 2011, 10:00:39 PM
I will have all of my arrangements in progress in this thread. :) I will focus on music from the Kirby series at the moment. Please, feel free to edit these and give suggestions. I don't have the best ear (though it has improved over the years thanks to my musicianship courses lol). These will be in .mus format because it can be edited that way. If anyone wants it in a different format such as .pdf or .sib, or some other format, then let me know. <:

Here is a current list of my arrangements in progress:
