Music / Being Open Minded is Cool

I'm going to try out this new "techno" thing that seems to be all the rage lately.

I DEMAND RECOMMENDATIONS.

Off-Topic / Macs Vs. PCs
May 07, 2010, 06:32:03 PM
A lot of people ask "Which is better?" and a lot of people respond "Oh, Macs are better for artistic stuff like photo manipulation, and PCs are better for business."

What is the deal, I've never understood that response. Can somebody explain it to me?

Also, WHICH IS BETTER?

Movies & TV / Critics
April 25, 2010, 12:44:25 AM
Another movie topic.

A while back I saw the movie "A History of Violence". I had heard it was a critically acclaimed "depicition of how violence affects a person," and "Viggo Mortensen's magnum opus". It was shit. The bad kind. This movie got freaking 87% (94% from "Top Critics") on Rotten Tomatoes, and I am seriously doubting if I saw the same movie as they did. The acting was vomit-inducing, mainly because the entire cast was flat and characterless (especially the two stupid children who couldn't act their way out of a paper bag). The plot was retarded as well, and the movie desultorily wandered, fizzled, then died. Not soon enough, though. I could go on and on about how much this movie sucked, (there are two of the most awkward sex scenes in that movie you will ever witness - cheerleader roleplay with people who could be your parents, and semi-rape on a staircase) but this topic is about critics.

Thanks a lot, critics. Thank you for stealing 2 hours of my life.

Critics are retarded. They are supposed to be used as a tool to determine whether or not a movie is good, so you can go see it. But they don't know if a movie is good or not. It's all personal taste. You might as well ask your friends, or an 8-ball for that matter.

Anyway... list any movies that were critically acclaimed (but sucked) or critically insulted (but rocked). Also feel free to insult critics who are particularly idiotic, like A. O. Scott.

Movies & TV / Kick-Ass
April 24, 2010, 09:15:23 PM
AWESOME MOVIE.

Basic Premise:
Nerdy dude who looks like Harry Potter ponder, "Why aren't there people who try and be superheroes?" His friend and the nerdy guy from Hot Tub Time Machine don't give him a satisfactory answer. He gets all sad that people watch other people commit crimes. Suddenly, injustice pushes him OVER THE EDGE. He dons a hideous looking costume and sets out to fight evil.

Suddenly, REALITY STRIKES!
Nerdy Dude is stabbed!
Ninja eleven-year-old kills tons of people!
Double-Crossing!
Gore!
Nicholas Cage in a role that doesn't make you want to die!
More gore!

It's really one of the coolest movies I've seen in a while. Well, at least one of the most fun ones. I recommend everybody who is capable of seeing this movie to go see this movie.

In the past, I've used avast! anti-virus. When I saw that a trojan had appeared in my win32 folder, I deleted it. It appeared again after deletion. I deleted it again. I continued this until I decided to restart my computer. The Vista log-in screen loaded normally, but when I logged in, only a black screen appeared. Various pop ups came up regarding errors (Windows Explorer cannot run properly, search for solution?). Eventually, one came up regarding Windows Solutions. I clicked a link in the pop-up which allowed me to access the internet. It was supposed to take me to a page where I could update my OS, but instead the page said "Only viewable in Internet Explorer". There was a link to download Internet Explorer, but it "wasn't compatible with my operating system". I can't get to the start menu or install any anti-virus programs.

I can't see my desktop or run any simple programs. I can't even boot my computer in safe mode for some reason. What should I do?

Feedback / Updating Imperfect Sheets
May 21, 2009, 09:19:42 AM
Let's face it: not all of NSM's sheets are perfect. Some of them, sadly, are hardly even accurate. If an arranger makes an improved version (a completely new arrangement, not a revision), and submits it, would it be accepted? Would the other sheet be deleted, or would they both be kept?

Bleh, this probably should have gone on the Help board. Oh well a mod can move it if it's really needed.

Help! / Chat help?
September 19, 2008, 10:18:06 PM
So, I started up Chat for the first time last night... and chatted! It was working great, I was talking to people, doing all sorts of chat based things! But my internet timed out and when I tried to log back in, the chat gave me this.

I went to the help page, http://www.pjirc.com/help.php?p=0&faq_id=41 but I'm too technology retarded to figure out what any of it means. Could somebody please help me? ???

Edit: I got it to work again... but then I got kicked off again. Its not a VITALLY important problem, but its really a pain.

Help! / Main Games
September 07, 2008, 12:38:09 PM
On the home page of this site, on the left bar there are a bunch of games like Mario, Zelda and Final Fantasy. These are all there because they have popular music and a lot of arranged songs for them. However also on the sidebar is Harvest Moon which has a whopping 3 songs. So what is it that determines what games are there? Chrono Trigger has 20 songs, yet is tossed into the "More..." category. Goldeneye has 19 also but, for some reason, isn't recognized like Harvest Moon is.

Why is this?  ???

Help! / Crescendo Madness
August 23, 2008, 02:19:28 AM
I've been arranging Forest Temple recently. Those who have heard it before will know that a lot of parts fade in and out. I tried to duplicate this with crescendos and decrescendos. But for some reason this silenced out the trebel of bars 9 through 15. Also, all these crescendos and decrescendos are making the sheets ridiculously crowded.

My awkward version: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mzmqq08nui9
What the song is supposed to sound like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=322V5rD6ko4

Is there any way to fix the strange volume problems, while also keeping faithful to the original music AND keeping the sheet clean?

(I feel like I'm starting too many threads asking Finale questions... shouldn't there be a Finale Help sticky? :P)

"Chozo Artifact Temple" - Metroid Prime [GCN]   MUS   MIDI

"Zelda's Theme" - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time [N64]   MUS   MIDI
^This is the actual name for the full version of Zelda's Lullaby. Trust me. Additionally, this song is currently in NSM's database. However the one we have up currently is painfully inaccurate. Instead of "fixing the sheet" I decided to rearrange it. Sorry about sounding stuck up. :P

In Progress
Other songs. I have too short of an attention span to finish most of them, so I'm not going to bother listing them!

Help! / Rolled Chords?
August 18, 2008, 11:39:40 AM
Is there any way to put Rolled Chords into Finale Notepad? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolled_chord) I tried the articulation tool, but it didn't do anything. I know a way you CAN reproduce the sound, but it would make things look cleaner and simpler if I could do this.

(I'm arranging Ocarina of Time: Ice Cavern)
