The Werewolf Game / TWG: Desperation Move
March 14, 2020, 01:52:17 AM
Basically, a game hasn't fired since July, so if we want to be able to send a rep to champs (rather if you would like to represent NSM in champs)

then we need to run a game.

RN they're kinda looking at mountainous for champs setup, so we would be running some kind of mountainous (vanilla) game with slight variations.

Players:

1. Blackdragonslayer
2. squarrels
3. leetic
4. Olimar12345
5. FireArrow

The Werewolf Game / NSMTWG Halloween Special
October 09, 2019, 12:11:25 PM
I've wanted to host a specific kind of game for a while.  This game isn't for the faint of heart, however.

We're pulling out all the stops.

To sign up, message me privately, either on forums or discord (Join the server here: https://discord.gg/ymgHvsn ).  This game will be extremely bastard, and there are no rules on what to expect or not to expect, other than the following:
1. There will be a human faction and a wolf faction.
2. The human and wolf wincons will be standard.
3. Any host communication can be counted on as literally truthful, no more, no less.

Anything can happen!  The game will be available for any number of players, and phases will try to accommodate as many lifestyles as possible.  When signing up, if you're concerned about IRL issues getting in the way, just tell me things like what times you prefer phase ends to be, or how long you want the phases to be if that's something you think could be a problem.  If you have to out later, don't sweat it.  You're not obligated to stick it out if you decide you don't want to.

Game should start around October 18th give or take a day.

Are you ready to play?

Players:

It's once again the most wonderful time of the year, and once again I'm trying to host a jack-o-lantern carving contest.  Simply post a picture, and vote for the pumpkin you like best.  You're welcome to change your vote as much as you like as entries come in, so don't wait till the last minute!  And, the winner of this contest will receive a $10 gift card to something of their choice (like the eShop or something, just not Amazon).

Bonne chance!

Overall, this game was pretty lukewarm and I think we all acknowledge this.  I know a noticeable portion of our new playerbase is still starting to get into things and I'm super happy to see you all playing your best.  I'm not going to do the normal size analysis for postgame, but would like to make a few notes.
-This was Kaiveran's game in every sense of the phrase and as such is the clear MVP.  You certainly deserved your win with the effort you put in.
-BDS, davy, and FireArrow, you guys have been around for a while and you know how this game works.  Please keep playing!
-SYG and N1P2, I want to see you guys making more mistakes.  Get mislynched constantly.  You're allowed to get better.  I sure did.
-Voozio, Blinky, FG, and leetic, thanks for joining the game, and you are more than welcome to host or play in any games you so desire here.  This invitation extends to everyone, so don't be shy.  Unless you are ShyYoshiGuy, in which case you can be shy.

As some of you may or may not know, I've been at work creating a game (which I now realize I just deleted all my files for when I upgraded my computer to Windows 10...) and as I'm no good at creating sprites I've been using dummy sprites for everything.

Now, I've got the core concept down, but in order to make any more progress on creating my game, I need to purchase the full version of gamemaker.  Before I make that investment though, I want to make sure I've got the resources necessary to complete it.  That's where this contest comes in.

You, the reader and sprite creator, will be participating in a series of sprite creation challenges!  The goal is to create a single image late-SNES-era to GBA-era style sprite that matches the given requirements for each challenge.  The sprites will be judged by both a small panel as well as myself, and points will be earned on various topics.  The winner of the competition at the last will receive the code for a gift card of their choice worth approximately $10 USD.  In addition, I will be selecting one contestant to handle the sprite creation for my game (if it's something they want to do).  Once the contest ends, I'll be getting in touch with the chosen contestant to provide more details on that.

Interested?  Sign up here!  The contest begins next Monday, so sign up quickly!

Kaiveran's Off the Grid/3d3
Quote from: Kaiveran on March 08, 2019, 06:31:30 PMOkay, so I have a cool 10 player game to maybe get things rolling. There are two problems, though:
  • I have lots of experience playing and hosting, but when my main TWG forum got nuked, all hard evidence of such went with it. (There's still a bit of a record in this though)
  • I would actually like to play this game!
So if someone could step up and host this, that'd be fantastic. Otherwise, maybe the requirements could be waived or somesuch.

Hopefully we can nab everyone after finals finish up.

 1. Santa Claus (Sleigh Driver)- each night, targets two players. If these players do not share a color, their actions from that night will be redirected to each other.
2. Mall Santa (Wolf seer)- each night, targets a player. Is told that player's color.
3. Santa's Elf- a vanilla wolf.
4. Mall Cop (One-shot vigilante)- once per game, during a night phase, may target a player. That player dies at the end of that night phase.
5. Michael Jackson (Seer)- once each night, may target a player. Is told the color of that player.
6. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer- once each night, may spin the dreidel.
7. Buddy the Elf- once each night, may spin the dreidel.
8. Olive, the Other Reindeer- once each night, may spin the dreidel.
9. Joseph the Carpenter- once each night, may spin the dreidel.
10. Judas Maccabeus- once each night, may spin the dreidel.
11. The Grinch- once each night, may spin the dreidel.
12. Ebenezer Scrooge- once each night, may spin the dreidel.
13. The Bumble- once each night, may spin the dreidel.

The Dreidel
Each night, all vanilla humans get to play dreidel.  Each side of the dreidel- Nun, Gimel, Hey, and Peh-  have a 25% chance of occurring.
Nun- Nothing happens.
Gimel- The player gains a one-shot role seering.
Hey- The player gains a one-shot color seering.
Peh- The player loses all seering powers they've gained so far.
The Dreidel powers cannot be used until the kinara is fully lit.

The Kinara
At the beginning of the game and each additional phase afterwards, a candle on the kinara will be lit.  Once all seven candles are lit, the dreidel powers become useable at any time.  Additionally, the wolf team gains powers.
Special Delivery- Santa Claus can deliver a bomb to any player, killing them and obliterating any chances of a cardflip.
Segue- The Mall Santa's seering power turns into a Role Seer.
Call Me Elf One More Time- Santa's Elf gains a roleblock power. (Once each night, may target a player.  That player's actions fail and they are notified of the roleblock.)

game notes
I went over this with sunfan and due to the nature of dreidel spinning it simply can't be "balanced" as the game is inherently swingy.  That said, it should be fair.  Game starts on a night phase, ootc is on, cardflips are on.  Humans have unique roles but are just told they're human.

The Werewolf Game / TWG CX? Postgame
August 19, 2018, 11:16:37 AM
I really wanted a computer for this.

Anyhoo, here it is.

1. ShyYoshiGuy- Vanilla Human
2. Toby- Vanilla Human
3. Nana1Popo2- Jailkeeper
4. BlackDragonSlayer- Godfather
5. BrainyLucario- Strongman
6. Trasdegi- Vanilla Human

Action list should be completely public
This game suffered from having only 6 players for sure, as most of the players in the game hadn't really played with such a small sample size before.  Wolves simply outplayed the town in this case and got a little lucky hitting the jailkeeper with a blackmail, cause it could've messed with parity otherwise.
Wolf mvp goes to bds for posting more.
Human mvp goes to uh
Let's go with tras
You got town read

We need a hiatus
Where are all the twgers :/

Not a lot really went on this game but I think it's an important one in the context of Toby

TWG Numerals: Jailhouse Rock

6+ Player setup.
Game begins on a day phase, but unique to this game is players do not get lynched.  Each day, players choose someone to throw in jail.  If a human is jailed, they stay the night in jail and then is released at the beginning of the next day phase.  If a mafia member is successfully jailed, they are not released.  While a player is in jail, they may only communicate via forum PM.  Out of thread communication is not allowed during this game otherwise.

The humans win when both mafia members have successfully been jailed.  The mafia win when all humans have been blackmailed or thrown in jail.

1. Mafia Godfather- When thrown in jail, gets released as though he is a Vanilla Human.  If the Mafia Strongman is already in jail, the Humans win instead.
2. Mafia Strongman- Each night, can choose up to one non-Mafia player to Blackmail.  The blackmailed player is unable to vote for the remainder of the game.  The blackmailed player will be revealed publicly.
3. Jailkeeper- The jailkeeper does not know who he is and cannot be thrown in jail.  If he would be thrown in jail, instead nobody is thrown in jail.
4. Vanilla Human

WOLVES WIN

BlackDragonSlayer-
QuoteYou are the 1-shot Mafia Janitor.  Once per game, you can "clean up a kill", preventing any of that player's information from being revealed on cardflip.  Your partner is PlayerName the Mafia Night Watchman.  Additionally, three times per game you may name a player and their role/what their role does.  If you do so correctly, they die immediately  and not at the end of the phase.
You were immediately under suspicion by FireArrow and Greg.  Of course, there was no way for you to know they were masons, but they had agreed upon you for a lynch the night prior!  Also, you only died because brainy was still voting for you (which is probably a good thing, because THC had declared intent to vote you- in a perfect world, it would have been a kitb).  He was playing around effects he didn't know were in the game, and it's possible you two could have chosen to kill davy, for example.
[close]

BrainyLucario-
QuoteYou are the Mafia Night Watchman.  Once each night, you may target a player and learn the name of every player who visited them.  Your partner is PlayerName, the 1-shot Mafia Janitor.  Additionally, you have been given an EMP item that allows you to prevent all night actions for a phase, returning negative results for all investigative powers.
I was disappointed you didn't use the EMP, as I started the game specifically on a night phase to allow for the use of the EMP.  Knocking out all powers is quite the effect.  Anyway, you had a plan to win the game and stuck to it despite the fact that just making the obvious wolf play would likely have won you the game!  It wasn't bad to think the game had a one-shot vigi or a revive, but the game started on the night phase because of the EMP and not because of a revive/vigi effect.  Either way, you did a good job of making sure people wouldn't lynch you immediately after BDS and secured a victory.  You probably get MVP.
[close]

FireArrow-
QuoteYou are Mason, the Wealthy Twin Child.  You're twins with Madison, the Wealthy Twin Child and share a private chat with her.
Well played game.  I enjoy your scumhunting tactics and you were OH SO CLOSE!!  If only you had trusted in the flashlight and decided davy couldn't have made the kill...  That would leave process of elimination to brainy- which really doesn't make sense, because he helped kill BDS, but again you could have considered that the nightkill would not go through, leaving the wolves outed in lylo.
[close]

Greg-
QuoteYou are Madison, the Wealthy Twin Child.  You're twins with Mason, the Wealthy Twin Child and share a private chat with him.
If I recall correctly, you're the one who came up with the "T" strategy, which was fun to watch, especially when you messed up.  You ended up being the nightkill, which really hurt PoE, since if THC had been you, for example, Brainy likely would have been the one killed.
[close]

Mastersuperfan-
QuoteYou are the Doctor.  Once each night, you can save target a player to save them from death.
You died preeetty early.  Good job on being widely town read though.  I honestly enjoy reading how your posts flow, since you've got lots of experience from playing ToS.  Maybe we can play another game together in the future instead of me hosting!  You're just a really smart player, kind of similar to BDS in my mind.  Also, your doctor targets weren't correct :P
[close]

ThatHiddenCharacter-
QuoteYou are the Engineer.  Once each night, you may manufacture a Flashlight to give to a player of your choice.  A Flashlight shines on a player in the dark, illuminating their actions that night.
You manufactured flashlights like a madman.  Despite what people say, you played another solid game and you're proving that you're no longer a newbie.  If I have one suggestion, you tend to go on a tangent/talk about things unrelated to the game.  There's always plenty of stuff to talk about.  Look at what people are saying and find it instead of saying "I had steak for dinner" just to reach post count!  But good job on reaching post count, especially at the end there.
[close]

Trasdegi-
QuoteYou are the Salesperson.  Your experience in sales and natural charisma means your vote counts for 2 instead of 1.  You must PM the host letting them know whether you want this ability on or off.  You may do this at any time.
I like how I change phase time so that the euros can be there for end of day and then 2/3 of them die immediately.  It still worked better for me than midnight, so it's all good.  You got mislynched over THC for no reason, since you were charismatic and could even have had someone else besides the two of you die.  I'm guessing you just didn't wake up early enough to check.  Sorry 'bout that!
[close]

Davy-
QuoteYou are the Commuter.  You have become so ordinary that twice per game, during night phases, you may choose to blend into the background, becoming completely untargetable by night actions.
You somehow were convinced that BDS was a human, despite... him not being human.  Rather than acknowledging that BDS had to have been a wolf (and I expected you to recognize the Janitor power since  you're more familiar with roles than most people) you considered the unlikely possibility that there are no wolves and tried to lynch the host!  Occam's razor bro. (though I can see how you arrived at the conclusion :P )  I did like that you brought up the no-lynch option, since it swung parity back in humans' favor.  And it may have attracted the wolves to try and kill you, but using your commuter power, you could have upset parity back lol.  I don't think you should have been lynched at the end though (you kind of town-telled with your "mikey is the wolf" comment).

Toby-
QuoteYou are the Messenger.  Why are you even here?  You were just supposed to send that invoice to Rhonda in HR.  Once each night, you can send a single Private Message to the host, who will forward it to the player of your choice.  The Private Message must fit criteria before it can be sent.
I said this privately, but I'm so glad you got the Messenger role.  Nobody else would have used it for nearly as powerful of stuff.  If you hadn't been dying that night, I wouldn't have allowed you to be able to reveal yourself via codewords, but everything else was fair game and quite a powerful use of a single PM mechanic.  I'll consider it in the future for an option in no OOTC games.  You played really well despite only playing for 24 hours.  Good job!

OwO WHAT'S THIS?!
(If you think something belongs here that you don't already see, PM me or davy!)

The goal of this megathread is to organize the entire TWG board into one manageable location.  If you're looking for a certain piece of information about the game or for a certain game of the past, it should be here!  Additionally, we run a poll during each TWG to gauge interest for the next game.  That way, hosts will know roughly what size their games should be.  Finally, a link to other NSMTWG resources are saved here for your convenience, even though they're already stickied.

NSMTWG Rules and Guidelines- Read this if you're new.
Suggestions and Feedback- If you've already read the rules and want to know something, post here.
Hosting and Balancing- If you want to host and/or get your game balanced, post it here and someone will help.
NSMTWG Discord- This is an invite to the server that NSM uses for their OOTC (Out Of Thread Communication) style games.  You can also just chill with the other members of the server or play popcorn mafia.
NSM Wiki Page- This is where you can find NSM's game history, hopefully in a way that's manageable and user-friendly.
