Help Guides / Finale - Advanced Tempo Manipulation
« on: January 04, 2019, 10:57:22 PM »Advanced Tempo Manipulation in Finale
Transcribing detailed tempo changes in Finale can be a difficult task. Below are some tempo editing strategies you can use to achieve detailed playback in Finale.
Using Basic Tempo Expressions

- Adjust tempo by creating a new expression each time you want the tempo to change.
Using TempoTap

- TempoTap allows you to tap out the intervals between key notes in real time.
- To use:
- Go to View -> Studio View.
- Using normal note input, change the blue TempoTap notes to define the lengths of the notes you will tap out.
- Select the HyperScribe tool and click a measure in the TempoTap staff. A green playhead will appear meaning you are ready to record.
- When you are ready, press the space bar to begin recording your tempo. Each subsequent press of the space bar will move to the next note, recording the tempo as you go.
- When finished, simply click anywhere on the score to stop recording. A dialog will pop up asking if you want the last recorded tempo to persist through the remainder of the score.
- Click the Edit button under 'TempoTap' in the left-hand menu to adjust your recording using the MIDI Tool (outlined below).
- Read more at MakeMusic's TempoTap documentation.
Using the MIDI Tool

- The MIDI tool is a good supplement to using TempoTap. It can correct small errors without affecting the bulk of what you recorded.
- To use:
- Select the MIDI Tool from the Advanced Tools panel.
- Choose MIDI Tool -> Edit Tempo.
- Double click on the staff you want to edit.
- Click and drag in the new window to select the region of music you want to change.
- Use MIDI Tool -> [operation] to change tempo values.
- Read more at MakeMusic's MIDI Tool documentation
Using Shapes

- Shapes can be used to graph playback changes over time. See MakeMusic documentation for how to use them.

Help! / All Tempo Markings and Expressions for Notepad Users
« on: January 29, 2016, 06:10:42 AM »
It's time to speed up the arranging process.
Included are Quarter, Dotted Quarter, and Half Note markings ranging 1-300 bpm.
To use them,
1) Go to the dropbox folder and download the template with the time signature your piece starts with.
2) Open it in Notepad, activate the Expression Tool, and double click on the measure you want to add a tempo marking to.
3) Scroll down through the expressions and select your tempo.

(there are 900 of them you can't miss it)
This method even allows tempo changes in the middle of the piece, which is awesome. Also included are most of the default expressions available in the full version of Finale, such as the Swing! tempo marking, rehearsal marks, extended dynamics options, and more.
Please note: This does not "install" tempo markings into Notepad. The markings will only show up if you are editing one of the template files.
Basically an upgrade to TheMarioPianist's Thread. Good inspiration that.

Help! / Similar Song Submission
« on: January 26, 2016, 05:12:45 AM »
Been scrounging through old threads and couldn't answer this myself. How similar can songs be before they shouldn't be resubmitted? For example, if there are two songs from a game but one is simply in a different key, should they be resubmitted? Or if one is much slower or faster? If there's a good benchmark or precedence for this it'd be nice to know.
