Home-Made Compositions / Echo tries to compose!
August 17, 2016, 11:01:42 PM
Welcome, NSMers! I've never been much of a composer, but recently I've decided to take my musical interests a bit more seriously, and I figured that my best way of improving is by getting feedback from all you guys!

Composition 1 - Howling Winds
I wrote this piece just the other night. I wouldn't call it complete, but I got to include most of the major ideas I thought of. If you want to think of it as a video game track, I think that it'd fit best as a JRPG battle theme or fighting game theme. It could obviously use some improvement in terms of the quality of instruments/soundfonts used to render it (especially the guitars), but in terms of actual general composition techniques, I'd say my main weaknesses I'm trying to fix for now are how to write fuller sounding guitar parts, finding out appropriate drum beats, and figuring out how to have interesting background parts instead of just writing things in unison or chord harmony without having things sound messy.

Anyways hope you enjoy, and if not, I'd love to hear some criticisms or advice to improve! Thanks for listening!

Home-Made Compositions / Echo's "Remixes"
January 12, 2014, 06:09:12 PM
So sometimes I like to "remix" songs in my spare time, although my goal's more to re-create songs with better quality sounds than the original, rather than to arrange a song in a different genre or whatever.

Here's my latest work, the Bike theme from Pokemon Black/White:

I couldn't really find an instrument that sounded like the bell thing or whatever (still not sure what that instrument's supposed to be, closest I got was a Music Box soundfont), so I settled for my piano instead. Hopefully it still turned out alright.

Here are my other remixes too, all Pokemon Black/White songs so far:
Accumula Town (my favourite to make so far)
Skyarrow Bridge
Route 10
Relic Song

So yeah, feel free to give any criticism, although compliments would be nice too. Tips on music production or suggestions for good soundfonts would be cool too; I really want to improve my violin/string sounds in particular.

Help! / Mordent on chords?
August 18, 2008, 09:04:17 PM
Um, yeah. So I want to know if there's a way to write out a way for both/all notes in a chord to be played with a mordent (look up mordent on wikipedia if you don't know what it looks like). On NotePad at least, I can put a mordent on a chord, but only the top note gets played with a mordent, when I want both notes to be played that way.

Like for this song I'm arranging. For now I made them into triplets, but the way I want to write them is as if they were quarter notes with a mordent over them. But the problem is I don't know how to show that both notes of the chord should be mordent'd. Is it even possible to do that? (not in a Finale program point of view, but in a musical point of view in general)

So... Anybody know?

Hi! Don't mind me, just figured that I should actually get to posting some of my sheets on this thread sometime. It'll probably take me a while since I have to update them to the new site standards, and also because I'm incredibly lazy, but I will get to uploading more sheets (eventually). I'm not a particularly good arranger (I have like zero/negative knowledge about music theory and I don't play piano regularly), so I'll probably be relying on you guys for some feedback and help. ;)

Art / Echo's Art

Meh, a rough sketch of Gold from Pokemon... With an Aipom!

I was pretty lazy midway, so a bunch of things are probably off/ugly. The Aipom was a last minute doodle too, but I don't think it turned out as bad as I thought it would.
