Oh man, this one was a massive pain to write out on piano. It's completely playable with pedal, but the way it's written might not be super clear on how to play it (you have to go back and forth between the two staves with the LH), so any suggestions on improving this one are appreciated.

The Girl Who Stole the Stars
Very nice.
- There should only be three grace notes before m1 RH beat 3: there is no F, just Db-Eb-Ab.
- I hear an Ab above the Bb in the LH on beat 1 of m5 and m9.
- How do you feel about flipping beat 4 of m15 RH down? It's true that Layer 2 is still present there, but IMO it just looks really weird to see beat 4 flipped up and then beat 1 of m16 flipped down immediately following.

3
Sorry for the wait on this one. I forgot about it, and that was my bad. With that said, here's some feedback:

- I don't think the character indication on the tempo marking makes a whole lot of sense. I get that it's a reference, but it seems like a bit of a contrived attempt to mix a reference with a legitimate character indication. I would just suggest using something like "Menacingly" or "Dramatically."
- You might consider changing the RH to bass clef from m1 to the first half of m6 (as well as m18). It gets a bit low as is (particularly m4) and looks a bit awkward with all the extra space you have to add between the staves.
- In m7-11, the Ab's should all be written as G#'s, and the Eb's should all be written as D#'s.
- In m7/8 LH, did you mean to write the chords on beat 3 with an F# on top and an Fn on the bottom?
- The short descrendos in m7 and m8 look awkward and don't make a ton of sense to me. I would suggest removing the decrescendo and putting a piano dynamic marking on beat 3, and then putting a mp or mf on beat 4 so that the player knows to revert back to the louder dynamic again.
- The crescendo in m11 doesn't really make a lot of sense either since you can't make held notes get louder. If you want the LH chord on beat 3 to be stronger than the RH chord on beat 1, you can put an accent on it. But the crescendo you have right now doesn't really mean anything.
- Likewise with the decrescendo in m13 as well, since there are no tremolos there and only one eighth note before the end of the decrescendo. If you want it to get quieter by beat 3, I would just put a dynamic on beat 3 and remove the decrescendo.
- Also same with the "molto dim." in m15—just put a softer dynamic marking on beat 4.5 of m15.
- m14 RH Layer 2 beat 1 is offset compared to beat 1. Should be fixed if you just delete the half note in Layer 2 and re-enter it.
- In m1 and m17, move the mp dynamics slighly left to be center-aligned with the noteheads on beat 1.

I might take a closer look at the chords next time, but everything sounds okay from a glance.

4
Solid. Some last things:
- In m10 LH, the A#'s should be written as Bb's, and the notes on beats 3 and 4 should be Cn's instead of B's. Also, I would suggest changing beats 3.5 and 4.5 to G's instead of E's (I think the fifths sound better). I like this way, but if you also want to maintain the dyad offbeat pattern, you could just have both E and G together on beats 3.5 and 4.5 instead.
- In m34 LH, change the A's on beats 3.5 and 4.5 to G's, and in m41 LH, change the F# on beat 3.5 to Fn and the C#'s on beat 4 to Cn's. Similar to m10, I think it sounds good if you just have single notes (i.e. C-G-C-G in m34, Bb-Fn-Cn-G in m42), but if you want to keep the offbeat dyad pattern, you can include both notes on beats 3.5 and 4.5 as well.
- IMO the crescendo in m26 looks kinda weird to be just slightly crossing over into the previous measure. I would just limit it to m26 instead of extending it into m25 since I think it looks cleaner and it doesn't really change anything.

We added a harmony line here, but same as above applies (the last two bars were especially tricky?).
You're in luck because the track actually has some faint harmonies under there, and I slowed the audio down to take a listen. I'm not 100% sure about the exact harmony notes, but compared to what you have now, I would suggest the following changes:
- On beat 1.5 of m19/21/23, I would change the E to a D (i.e. so you have a D-G dyad instead of an E-G dyad; the D is repeated both dyads in a row).
- In m19-20 and m23-24, whenever E is the top note of the dyad, change the lower note to A instead of B (5th instead of a 4th). In m21-22, whenever E is the top note of the dyad, change the lower note to C# instead (3rd). Beat 4 of m22 should also have a D on the bottom instead of a C#.
- On beats 2 and 3 of m25, the F# should be an Fn instead. Additionally, on beats 1.5 and 3.5 of m25, where G is the top note, change the bottom note from an E to an Fn (so you have Fn-G, major second dyad). The F# in the very first dyad stays as F#.
- On m26 beat 4, the harmony I (faintly) hear under the E is a G, not an A. However, I think the A sounds better in the sheet, so I'd probably just keep it as is.

Submissions / Re: [DC] Wacky Races - "Snow Hope Village" by ShyYoshiGuy

Ok, I've finally updated this one. Some measures like m10 and m35 sound real bad now, and I don't know what I did wrong. As usual, there may have also been some interpretation issues between what you said and what I ended up doing. Sorry, lol. And yeah, this is sounding good (excluding the troublesome measures).
Yeah, for some reason, in m10 and m41, the F# in RH Layer 1 isn't carrying over to RH Layer 2. I'm not sure why that is; hopefully another updater can figure that out.

Some last fixes for you to make:
- The reason why m35 sounds bad is because you forgot to put a sharp on the upper F#.
- Likewise, you're missing the sharp on the F# on beat 3.5 of m50 RH.
- I'm also thinking that, alternatively, in m61/65/69/73 RH, you could hold the first chord for two beats (half note) and then switch to the high line on beat 3. That might make the chord on beat 1 sound less prematurely interrupted and the high line less abrupt. However, if you want to keep as much as the high line as possible, this also works too. This is up to you.

As much as I would like to fix your files myself, I mentioned that your files don't work when imported into my Finale, so unfortunately I'm going to have to pass those changes on to another updater. To the extent that I can help, everything here looks good, so I'm going to give this an approval for now as long as you make the changes above. I'll come back to take another look at it once the other updater has reformatted it.

For reference, here's a list of what needs to be done by someone else in full Finale:
- Note spacing
- System spacing and clashing with margins/each other
- Repeat endings - clashing with notes, ending numbers should have periods after them
- Maybe measure distribution per page and system distribution per page should be expanded so that it uses a 4th page? It's pretty cramped as is.
(+ fix playback in m10/41 with the RH F# on beat 4.5)

LH first
-m2b1.5 - I hear an F here followed by a restrike on b1.75, which you have written in. It sounds like it might still be there in m6, but it's so faint it's hard to tell for sure.
There are a few faint restrikes here and there that I purposefully omitted since I felt they were too faint compared to the subsequent note and didn't like the sound of the same note being played twice in a row. This was one of them.

LH first
-m14 - I'm hearing some harmonies here below what you have written. For b1.25-1.75, it sounds like it's Eb-Ab-Ab and maybe another Ab on b2 but it's hard to tell.

RH m11 - I am not convinced by those quarters, since the sound is distinct from the progression in the following measure. I think a Gb-Bb is more accurate than the Bb-Db, but I'm not 100% positive on what the notes are, just that it's not what's written here.
I pretty clearly hear just what I have currently written.

Also in Ocarina of Time. Admittedly, I forgot that this first appeared in A Link to the Past when I made this quiz because I haven't played it. Nice track, and quite well known too.

"Vs. Johto Gym Leader" – [GBC] Pokémon Gold and Silver

Timestamp: 0:40

So this one was pretty tricky if you haven't played the games, and even if you have, it's funny how easy it is to confuse one battle theme with another when I give you a very generic line to identify. Gave a few Pokémon fans some trouble...

Kaphita: 4 is GSC champion?

"That Spinning Star is a Planet" / "Title Theme" – [3DS] Kirby: Planet Robobot

Timestamp: 0:29

Also found in the final boss theme, Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection.

This one may have been a bit tricky for the Easy section considering that most people probably haven't played this game. However, I was hoping that the Haltmann motif would tip some people off, since memes and high-quality rips have popularized it quite a bit...

#10 (8/21)
"Museum" – [NDS] Animal Crossing: Wild World

Timestamp: 0:00

Also appears in City Folk, New Leaf, and New Horizons. I was hoping that the high number of people playing New Horizons in early quarantine might make this one more recognizable, although the New Horizons version is slower, so it would be harder to recognize if it was the only Animal Crossing game you've played.

I was tempted to transcribe the bassoon part instead and put it in Normal or Hard, but I'm pretty sure nobody would've gotten it if I did.

"Accumula Town" – [NDS] Pokémon Black & White

Timestamp: 0:17

So my thought process was something like, "Yeah, most people know the first bit, but I'm picking the generic-sounding B section, and plus, Gen 5 music is less well known than Gens 1-4, so most people won't get this one." But noooo, the power of memes is too strong.

Also in Mario Kart 7. This one was a bit tricky and took some people some time to pin down exactly.

I had a lot of fun with this game on the Wii (at least, when the Wii Motion Plus worked properly). I sunk a LOT of hours into the minigame where you fly around the island in the plane...

"Red Streamer Battle" – [SW] Paper Mario: The Origami King

Timestamp: 1:08

Okay, so this one makes me a little sad. I get that a lot of people probably haven't yet played (or won't play) Origami King, but I wanted to use something from this game, so I tried to go with the most well-known track other than the main theme/Toad Town. But, um... I guess nobody knows the battle theme either.

While it's my favorite part of the track, the part I picked was admittedly a bit tricky. However, before you give me flak for it, let me redirect you to the Yellow Streamer Battle theme, which remixes the same part into an incredibly catchy and memorable line at 1:08.

"Grassland" / "Field 1" – [SW] Ring Fit Adventure

Timestamp: 0:13

Apologies for not being able to find a non-extended version of this track.

I got this game and played it for a bit... I didn't stick with it for a long time other than playing the rhythm game. However, I was curious if more people might have tried this out while in quarantine.

"Aegis Cave" – [NDS] Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time & Darkness

I thought I was going to bamboozle the PMD fans by picking a melody that would be hard to recognize out of context without the chords underneath it. It didn't work.

Timestamp: 0:29

Also has a remix in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with an awesome violin.

Okay, this is when the quiz started getting very difficult. This is one of those tracks that I've heard multiple times before but never really remembered where it came from until I made this quiz. If I had been given this quiz two weeks ago, this melody would have driven me absolutely insane, and I never would have found it because it is absolutely not the type of music you associate with Street Fighter.

Turns out, everyone else who recognized this one also had the same reaction. Except one person actually found it.

The title screen theme. This one was very niche, admittedly, and it will probably be the one and only time I use something from this game. I played it this summer, and uh... to be honest, I didn't like it that much. But at least the music is nice?

Another case of "I know absolutely nothing about this game except for this one track." In hindsight, this might have belonged in Maddening, but it's popular enough that I thought that a few people might know it. I was hoping people might get it from following Cristina Vee or from those one or two meme videos that use it (see "Paper Mario The Origami King in a nutshell"). In the end, I'm glad that one person got it, at least.

"Reminiscence ~ The Bitter Taste of Truth" – [NDS] Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations

Timestamp: 0:41

This one makes me a little sad because it's easily one of my favorite tracks from the game, right up there with the Court Begins and End themes. Everyone knows Godot's theme instead of this one, but this one hits so much harder... :(

I suppose that if we use melodies from the first AA game, droves of people will get it, but as soon as we use something from a later game, nobody knows it. In the end, the only person who got it was the one who arranged it... and even then, it wasn't easy.

"Alight" – [3DS] Fire Emblem Fates

Timestamp: 2:07

This is easily one of my favorite map themes from Fates... it's so good. I wish more people knew it... or knew Fates music in general, because as bad as the games themselves can be sometimes, the music is fantastic. Contrary to popular opinion, I prefer the Calm version of this track over the Storm one.

The part I picked was a bit tricky, and in hindsight, it might have been more recognizable had I used 0:29 or 1:09 instead. However, I really like how the part I transcribed is a countermelody at 1:45 and then becomes the actual melody at 2:07.

Timestamp: 3:13

(Don't be fooled by the 3-minute timestamp; this melody recurs multiple times throughout the piece. I just picked the one that corresponded to the octave I transcribed it in.)

Aaaaaaahhh okay out of all of them this one honestly might make me the saddest. Professor Layton's theme was used once before, so I thought I would go with the second-most famous track in the series to see if anyone has played these great games. I guess not :(

(I know there have been some Professor Layton fans on NSM—heck, we have a whole section on-site for it—but none of them participate in this quiz or are active anymore, unfortunately.)

Very nice.
- You could move the opening dynamic a little bit down so it's not so close to the RH note + staccato.
- For the G at the end of m16, I would move it an octave down to match the original. Then, you can cross-staff it into the LH to make it playable.

That is all.

12
Nice, this looks much improved. Some more feedback:
- m1 RH beat 2.5 lower note should also be a G# instead of a B.
- In the first three dyads in m5 RH, the lower notes should be Bb-C-C#.
- The tenth in m6 is a big stretch for some players. I would suggest raising the A up an octave. Alternatively, you could also make it an F instead for a fifth.
- In the second-to-last dyad in m6 RH, the lower note should be an E instead of an F.
- This is what I'm hearing for the end of m7 RH (also make sure you remove the staccato on the rest):

- In the first three dyads in m9 RH, the lower notes should be C-C-Bb.
- For m11 RH, I think that doubling the D at the bottom of the chord is unnecessary and makes it sound too thick; I'd omit the low D's entirely. Additionally, the third note (the eighth note) should also have an E under it.
- The notation for the layers in m11 RH is kind of weird. Layer 1 should definitely be flipped down for the first half of the measure. Here's the best way to notate it that I can think of at the moment:

- In the first half of m13 LH, I hear Eb in the dyads instead of C.
- I'm not sure I hear the B in the LH in the chord on beat 4 of m15, and I think it might be a bit too dissonant for this context. You might consider changing it to a D (right above middle C) instead.
- You could add G and A, respectively, under the last two eighth notes in m16 to replicate the introduction of the high strings in the original.
- You might consider adding an E to the RH chord on beat 1 of m17 to for even more emphasis.
- For the first two chords in m17, I would suggest removing the staccatos from the LH (i.e. just make them accents) and write them as held dotted quarters without rests. I think that holding the LH there better helps accentuate the sustained feel from the original. I would also suggest writing LH beat 4 as a quarter note just to make it look cleaner, even if you keep the staccato on that one.
- Also, the first two chords in m17 RH should be flipped downward.
- Last three quarter rests in the final measure should be condensed into a dotted half rest.

I am very tired and will continue checking the rest tomorrow.

Alright! You mean to the default location, all the way to the center? Also what's generally the convention on this? Cuz Lat told me to move it down earlier lol :P

Oh. I just move it up when Layer 1 looks like it's far enough away that it won't look uncomfortable with a rest in the center of the staff (and yes, default location). I guess you could probably go with preference here.

14
Ah, this brings back memories...
- The RH and LH notes are really close to touching in the first system. I'd spread the staves apart a little bit there.
- You could also spread the systems out more so that there are four on the first page and four on the second, to make the distribution look more even and uncramped.
- In m25-32 LH, you don't beam over rests, but everywhere else in the sheet, you do. It should be consistent one way or the other. (While either way is okay, as updaters, we prefer not to beam over rests since that's more standard/conventional in notation. In the same vein, it's also more standard not to beam eighth notes in groups of 3 like you do in m5 and m7. To change these easily, just go to Document > Document Options > Beams and uncheck "Include Rests when Beaming in Groups of Four" and "Beam Three Eighth Notes Before/After an Eighth Rest." Then go to Utilities > Rebeam > Rebeam Music.)

Really nice! Just a few things:
- Move the Layer 2 rests in m13/16/17/19 up onto the center of the staff.
- I would space the systems out more so that there are four systems on page 1 and three on page 2. Page 1 is a little bit cramped right now and you have plenty of space to move things around.
- You could add some more notes to the LH m13-20 to follow the low strings on beats 2/2.5, but if you've tried it that way and prefer it as is, that's good too. Never mind, it looks like this is what Deku suggested against.
- Does the track loop in-game?
