Off-Topic / Re: The Post Your Thoughts of the Moment Thread 2

I have to disagree about it being a good Pokémon game, but man I totally agree that Falinks has hands down the best design out of the new Pokémon :D

this looks like a Mario enemy

Hmm. Yeah, looking again, I understand the visual appeal of the longer one too, so I'm not sure. I typically tend to prioritize consistency, but this is also the only rolled chord in the arrangement with an accidental between the rolled chord symbol and stem, so it's a different case anyway.

I'm not going to be any less indecisive on this than you, so uh, go with your own judgment.

yuh this looks good chief

But if I may direct your attention to the tiniest of details:

The rolled chord marking in m8 extends significantly further below the bottom notehead than do all the other rolled chord markings.

Unless that was intentional, which may very well be the case.

That is all.

Oh yeah, that. If you have full Finale, you should just be able to click on the repeat sign and select the option that says "play section 2 times," and then change the 2 to a 3.

I would argue that's the point of the ties in the original....

The bassline does that in the original, but the percussion is continuously playing in eighth notes or faster rhythms. With the LH, I'm trying to replicate not just the original bassline but also the percussive, driving feel that keeps it moving. Without anything else to mimic the percussion, I personally feel that the ties break the momentum far more here than they do in the original, and so I chose to leave them out.

EDIT: also just noticed that I accidentally deleted the forte in m35; I put it back

Well, you're in luck because I just added in the con pedale anyway.

Ped in the breakdown section from m25-32?
I think that pedal usage is implied here and didn't feel the need to write it out (to avoid having to write a senza ped. later, since very brief uses of pedal might be helpful in other sections for playability; and also so that the pianist wouldn't try to overpedal for too long at a time without changing the pedal). I'm happy with leaving it up to the player's interpretation, but if you or someone else feels strongly about indicating pedal usage, I could include it.

Not sure what's going on  with the bassline in m8. Personally, I think it'd be fine if it just mostly mirrored the RH. At the very least, make it so that you don't have the 16th to a repeated note. Those are nasty in a tempo this fast.
Intended to mimic the percussion. I raised the first sixteenth note up an octave. I like how it sounds now, but if you don't like the pattern on beat 1, I'd be okay with removing it. I'd rather keep the eighth-note pattern starting on beat 2 though.

m16 - Staccato+accent on RH b2.5?
Added. I also added a tenuto on beat 3.5 for contrast.

m21-m22 LH - I think there's a lot to be gained by ignoring the pattern you had previously and following the bass guitar here instead, because it does some interesting things musically that would be a shame to leave out.
I didn't change the LH to the bass guitar verbatim, but I changed the rhythm to put more emphasis on the bass guitar's pattern.

m41 b1 - I was really confused by this LH chord at first. It appears like it's part of the run that follows, but it isn't at all. I'd recommend adding a staccato or accent or both to show it's percussive nature, or take it out entirely.
I put both a staccato and an accent on it.

m43 etc - I'd recommend adding the As back in on beats 2 and 3.5. I don't think they make it too muddy and, as it is now, it feels like the bassline is being rudely interrupted by the 4ths.
I still think it sounds a bit too muddy with all three notes, so I just replaced the C's with A's on those beats.

m38 - this may be a difference in the way we've always heard it, but on b1.75 RH - I only hear a single D instead of the full chord. This one's up to you because I realize how vague the original is.
I hear it as a single A, but I wrote in the full chord because I think it sounds better on piano that way.

m30, m32, m44, m46 etc. I really think that the LH on beats 3-4 needs to be emphasized more. This one's up to you, but I recommend using octaves and dropping the b3.5 8th note. Personally, I think this both sounds nicer and is more fun to play on piano.
I added the octaves. However, I kept the note on beat 3.5 in m30/32 and m48/50 because I like that extra bit of rhythmicity, as well as the contrast it provides between these measures and m44/46.

m46 LH b4.5 - I think this note is a g?
I listened closely again, and not only do I still hear a C (and no G), I also hear a D on beat 4.75, so I added that in.

There's a few parts in m36-42 LH where I can hear a tied note across a beat. e.g. m38 b2.5-3.5 has no restrike. Also m38 b4.5-39 b1, m36 b4.5-m37 b1 and these three again when the bassline repeats
I left these out intentionally to keep the eighth note rhythm continuously running. When I tried included the ties originally, I felt like they broke the momentum a little bit.

put a double barline before the s in m5?

maybe include the LH markings for the harp runs? Up to you on this one, but I don't see the harm in adding it.

I also lowered m25/26 LH beat 4 down an octave.

aaaaa sorry I keep noticing things and asking you to fix them

In m47, I didn't mean the RH staccatos, just the LH ones. You can put the staccatos back on the quarter notes there.

That's actually it.

You can combine the "Swing eighths" and "half note = 88" into a single, one-line tempo marking (use another hidden marking for swing playback).

One last suggestion: I'd add a low G to the m52 LH chord. Playability isn't an issue since the RH can take care of the B and D.

Everything else looks good.
