You should build a wall, and make her pay for it!

Old jokes aside, Dudeman makes a good point.

Edit:

Of course, I'm the kind of person who thinks a well thought out argument can solve almost anything.

I was all excited to unveil the new look for my site today, but my family went on a trip and I forgot my PC charger... :P

Quote from: E. Gadd Industries on May 13, 2017, 12:58:00 PMOh yeah, I got my physical today & they told me I have a systolic heart murmur. LUCKILY, it's minor & shouldn't interfere with my running, but I still have to get an ECG done.

I hope you get better E.Gadd.

Quote from: Dudeman on April 28, 2017, 05:59:29 PMSee, for something to be a timeless classic, it kind of has to be...timeless. Ya dig?
Quote from: Maelstrom on April 28, 2017, 06:02:42 PMTimeless classics have to be regularly played today to be considered timeless classics.
I think you edged my first quiz in obscurity.

I see your point. Of course we aren't going to play the same games everyday. Wolfenstein 3D could certainly be considered timeless since almost every beginner computer graphics course/article out there that references this, but I have not played it in years. Same for Undertale, which even though it seems insanely popular now will eventually become one of those gems that we remember/play from time to time (just like it's predecessor Earthbound/Mother).

But yeah...
Quote from: Maelstrom on April 28, 2017, 06:02:42 PMCan we please tone it down a little? If you doubt at least 2 people will get it, don't put it on.

note taken.

Time for the results of the quiz. I was actually expecting a lot more guesses, but I guess this is further confirmation that I have an unusual/obscure taste in video games. I'll let you guys be the judge of that though.

#1
[MUL]Killer Instinct 2(a.k.a. Gold) - Tusk's Theme

I thought this would get some considering, from my impressions anyway, that most of the users on this site are students(CoolMath.com) :P

And the winner is...
Dudeman, with 4.5 points!

The theme was...
Want to try and guess first?
The theme was centered around games that are often dubbed "timeless classics." These are the kinds of games that you discuss/share with your friends,  and sit at home (or go to the arcade) and have a great time with the homies.

Accepted phrases would have been the above mentioned "timeless classics," as well as "Games with Friends," and other similar phrases.

Dekkadeci got the closest guess with "old-school video games."

What did you guys think? I promise, the next time I host I will try to make it less obscure. I am glad I though in Undertale and Yoshi's Island. :P

Quote from: LeviR.star on April 27, 2017, 01:19:06 AMThe only soundtrack left that I really need to get to know in Kirby is Kirby Air Ride's, but I just got it the other day, so I'll soon be good.

Congrats on your soundtrack mastery.

I could say the same for Metroid which need to play Prime 2/3, and Other M (basically the newest ones).

Also, I wanted to quickly clarify that unless I sent a message otherwise, everyone's first guesses are correct. Hope I didn't cause any confusion.

I only recognized #8 from Insig's, because I simply adore that thilling, slightly swingy tune.

The funny thing about #6 is that I literally went through Kirby's Adventure searching for a song to play... And I listened to that song. As for #1 I have replayed that game almost as many times as there are Mario Karts, and I did not recognize it.

haha, I can hear the all the head scratching over my wifi.

Quote from: mastersuperfan on April 26, 2017, 03:31:58 PMGuessing where the theme is from and then going through soundtracks looking for it, what else
Quote from: Dudeman on April 26, 2017, 03:33:06 PMOh okay that's what I thought. For a moment there I thought you had a sooper-seekrit melody analyzing thingamajig that you used to win most of the rounds

lol, I was thinking the same thing when he said track-hunting. I daydreamed something similar to a database, "SELECT name FROM songs WHERE melody LIKE #1" :P
#8
Here it is, I tried to get a good mix of games. Not all of the games are from Nintendo.

Dropbox: PL's Melody Quiz

Here are some things to consider.
Spoiler
- Each song is worth 1 point if correctly guessed
- Similar song from another franchise .5
- Same franchise similar/remixed song .75
- Same franchise same song wrong game .9
- All songs are from their first occurrence within their respective franchise

Can you guess the theme that I focused on?

I couldn't get the pedal dynamics to work correctly so #7 doesn't sound exactly like it should. I fixed it in the midi though.

Good Luck!

Quote from: LeviR.star on April 25, 2017, 05:12:41 PMWhich time after you? Tomorrow, or after your next hosting?

Quote from: InsigTurtle on April 25, 2017, 11:43:57 PMTomorrow. Unless he decides to quickly switch out :P

Speaking of which, whoever's going tomorrow can start their round whenever they want, cuz I'm going to be home suuuper late.

I will go. I didn't learn musescore in less than 24 hours for nothing ;) (I got tired of hand editing the xml)
#10
At this point I am just sticking around to learn new songs and/or experience nostalgia of a forgotten game. :P

Quote from: Dekkadeci on April 24, 2017, 06:40:06 PMTo make up for my first quiz, I would like to re-enter the rotation. This time, all my melodies will be at least 8 bars long, all of them will be in series with at least one song on the main site (unlike last time), and at least one song can be found in a Super Smash Bros. game.

(Also, why the flip is there a MD5 hash at the bottom of the .mus? This can't be secure!)

I recognized three from and named two from yours. My best percentage so far!

#5 is killing me. I know I've heard it before, but I can't remember from what.

Nope... I will wait 10 more minutes.

Off-Topic / Re: NSM Sound Utilities [April 2, 2017]

It's been a while since the last update. I am actually working on the site that will host all of these applications. I also want to make it so others can submit their own creations as well. Here is a screenshot of what the site looks like so far (this is offline).

Yes, I drew that lovely picture myself :D
