Site News / So long, and thanks for all the fish
« on: June 06, 2018, 09:07:15 PM »
It was nearly ten years ago when G-Han, the founder of NinSheetMusic, wrote his fair farewell. In that farewell he entrusted this website to me, to continue what he had started. Now, ten years later, it is time for me to follow that example.

What I have learned recently, is that time is quite a limited resource. It is important to find the important things in life and focus on them. Unfortunately, NinSheetMusic no longer remains in that category for me, nor it has been in a while. For the best of the future of this website, it is better that someone for whom NSM is a focus to take the reins.

Thankfully, those people are not hard to find. Even in my absence, the site has kept going thanks to the talented and hardworking staff we have accrued during the years. Although the old guard is mostly gone, it has been a pleasure to see new faces join the crew along the way. As not to keep the suspense any longer, I can officially announce that Latios212 will replace me as the administrator of NinSheetMusic. Best of luck to him and the rest of the staff.

As for me? I'll probably still hang around, especially now that I can freely roam without any sort of responsibility.

See you around,

Site News / Forum problems
« on: September 25, 2016, 02:12:58 PM »
Hi all, you might have noticed some problems with the forums earlier today. The forum installation was not working properly so we had to reinstall the forum. Everything should work normally now.

We'll need to reinstall the forum modifications so some familiar forum functionality (spoiler tags etc.) do not work right now. Fixing them ASAP.

Let me know if there are any further problems,

Site News / Update, Sunday 24th of July 2016
« on: July 24, 2016, 09:21:17 PM »
With this update, our site now hosts over 3000 arrangements. As far as I know, that is a rather large number.

As with all large milestones, I am let out of the storage to do the honors. Hopefully I don't mess up anything considering that the last time I hit the UPDATE button in our submission management system was when were debugging it.

The sheer quantity of the arrangements shows how important it is to have a large community behind a site like this. Without Deku Trombonist's sheet submission system we'd still be turning our updater crew insane with our antiquated updating process. Without our updating crew we'd have no quality control whatsoever or the ability to process the arrangements submitted by our arrangers, giving valuable guidance in the process. And of course the aforementioned arrangers as well, without whom we'd have no arrangements to host.

I would also like to point out that all this has been done as a hobby. No one has earned any money from this. Despite that, we have been able to create over 3000 arrangements, just because we as a community wanted to. I think that says something.

Onwards to 4000!

Site News / Happy New Year 2016!
« on: January 01, 2016, 11:34:50 AM »
On behalf of the NSM staff, I wish you all a happy new year!

As the NSM community grows, the need for more people to keep things running increases as well. Because of this, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the two new members of the NSM staff braixen1264 and Dudeman, who have joined the moderator team that keeps our forums in order.

Oh, and if you haven't visited our forums yet, make sure to do so. We'd love to have more people join our community.

Site News / Introducing NinSheetMusic Performance Videos!
« on: August 17, 2015, 07:51:00 PM »
This update is something different. This is the first of the updates in our NinSheetMusic Performance Videos project. There are lots of videos on YouTube of talented pianists playing the arrangements we have created. In many cases such videos and channels have way fewer views and subscribers than they deserve. The aim of this project is to give more exposure to said musicians and help the people browsing our site find them. Of course, at the same time NSM gets more activity and our great arrangements get more lively performances than the MIDI files currently provide.

To begin with, we have the following videos:

Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire - The Lament of Falling Stars by Latios212
Pokémon Black/White -  N's Farewell by braixen1264
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum - Battle! (Elite Four) by Toss Event
Super Mario 3D World - Captain Toad Goes Forth by TheMarioPianist
Animal Crossing: Wild World - The Roost by Jamaha

All videos in a playlist

I do not yet know how often we will post these updates and how many videos they will include in the future. That depends entirely on the number of videos we receive. Perhaps you would like to help? Have you recorded yourself playing our arrangements? If you'd like to be featured in these updates, make sure to submit your videos to our forums. You can find the board and guidelines for submitting videos here.

Happy listening!

Site News / Let's get this sorted
« on: February 10, 2015, 09:28:22 AM »
We made a small site upgrade today. If you go to browse our sheet archive, you may notice a couple of changes.

First of all, there are now several sorting options on the upper right of the page. Previously we have the sheets organized alphabetically. Now you can also browse the sheets chronologically. Both options are available both in ascending and descending order. The site also remembers your preferred sorting option.

The arranger names in the sheet archive also link to their respective arranger pages. So if you find an arrangement you like, make sure to check out the other sheets arranged by that arranger.

That's all for today. As always, if you have any problems with the new features, feel free to contact us.

Site News / Domain change
« on: January 12, 2015, 03:43:18 PM »
Hi everyone,

If everything has gone according to the plan, you should now (or shortly) notice your browser redirecting you to a different address when visiting NSM. This is because we changed our domain name. The site can be now found at

http://www.ninsheetmusic.org

The change was made due to certain problems regarding the old domain. The old domain will still redirect you to the site, but please update your bookmarks accordingly. You may also have to clear the cache of your browser for the changes to take effect. Let me know if you have any problems. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by the change.

Site News / Happy New Year! (Also, Mario Kart)
« on: January 02, 2015, 09:00:18 PM »
On behalf of everyone here at NSM, I want to wish a Happy New Year to you all!

To kick off the year, we’ll be having a Mario Kart 8 tournament in exactly 24 hours from when this message was posted. The code to join the tournament is

7968-8491-8041

The tournament will be running for five hours after starting, so no worries if you can’t make it right away. Hopefully the time slot works for most of you, with the different time zones and all.

Nintendo / NinSheetMelee: NSM's SSB4 tournament
« on: December 30, 2014, 04:09:04 PM »
Let's get ready to rumble! NinSheetMusic's first Super Smash Bros tournament is about to begin!

The games played are Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and/or Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, assuming enough players are found for each game.

Bracket

Wii U
[close]

3DS
[close]

Rules

Items are set to off.

All characters are available, with the exception of Mii Figher.

No customizations.

Each set is played as a best of three.

All the matches in a set are 3-stock 8-minute matches

If the time runs out, the player with most stocks remaining wins. If stocks are tied, the player with less damage is the winner. No sudden death.

The first match is played on Battlefield. The second match is played on a stage chosen by the loser of the first match. The possible third match is played on a stage selected by the loser of the second match. The stages are chosen from the list below.

Alternatively, the players can come up with another method for choosing the stages, assuming both players agree with the method.

The tournament is played using a double elimination format, meaning that a player is eliminated after two losses. Therefore everyone gets at least two sets. After losing a set, a player is placed in the losers' bracket. The winners of the winners' bracket and losers’ bracket then face each other in the grand finals. The losers' bracket winner must win two sets against the winners' bracket winner to become the champion.

After completing a set, one of the players of the set should report the results of the match in this topic. The post should include the character(s) used and the result of the set, using for example the following formatting:

Jamaha (Mario, Dr. Mario) 2
DekuTrombonist (Luigi) 1

Feel free to include any interesting comments so we spectators can pretend we saw the match. You may then proceed to the next set at your own pace, assuming the matchup has already been formed in the bracket.

Available stages

Wii U

Battlefield
Final Destination (and Omega forms)
Delfino Plaza
Kongo Jungle (64)
Skyloft
Lylat Cruise
Castle Siege
Town and City
Smashville
Duck Hunt
Pilotwings
Wuhu Island
Windy Hill Zone

3DS

Battlefield
Final Destination (and Omega forms)
Yoshi’s Island

Schedule

Sign up for the tournament by posting in this topic, explicitly mentioning in which game(s) you want to participate. Make sure you have your NNID (for Wii U tournament) or friend code (for 3DS) in your forum profile.
The deadline for signups is January 2nd OVER.

As the number of matches and people's schedules most likely differ the tournament will be organized over several days. Whenever a new matchup is generated, said people then have 48 hours to play that match and report the result. The tournament ends once all matches have been played (duh).

Prizes

Fun and glory. Possibly something special for the champion to wear in their forum profile.

Site News / 10th Anniversary
« on: April 11, 2014, 04:21:00 PM »
As of today, it's been 10 years since NinSheetMusic was first made available on the web.

During those ten years we've had our ups and downs, including losing our hosting and domain at some point. Despite all that, ten years later we're still alive and kicking. I suppose that's something to be proud of, having a website's age reach double digits.

I probably should attempt to write some grand speech here, but I'm not really that good at such things. Better to just cut it short: Happy 10th Anniversary to NSM!

Site News / So what's going on?
« on: February 14, 2014, 10:48:18 PM »
Hi again! Long time no see, unfortunately.

So yeah, It's been rather quiet on the front page for a while now. Turns out my estimation for the amount of time I have available this year was grossly misjudged. I haven't really had the time to work on the site with my studies and work going on.

Friday's Featured Feature is still going to be a thing, just a bit more irregular from now on. As you can see the weekly schedule didn't really work out and I have to admit it was way too optimistic. I'll try to make them as frequent as possible but I probably shouldn't make any promises.

Sorry to disappoint,
Jamaha

Site News / No features this week
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:38:58 PM »
Hey, just a quick little heads-up. Despite my promises last week, there will not be an update this Friday.

The reason being that I just got a new apartment. I'm moving on Saturday so there's a lot of packing and preparation to do. With the already busy university and work schedule, there simply hasn't been enough time to work on NSM. Depending on how quickly I get settled to the new place and get my things sorted, there might be some kind of update next week. If not, I might have to take a couple of weeks off with the site features.

Sorry about that. At least the apartment has a two-year lease so this kind of disruptions shouldn't happen too often in the future.

Site News / Friday's Featured Feature: Sheet archive improvements
« on: January 17, 2014, 08:47:26 PM »
Hi again! Jamaha here with Friday's Featured Feature Following the First. (Okay, these names are getting dumb. Not that it's going to stop me.)

This week brings some added features to the sheet archive. Currently, the arrangements can only be browsed by franchise. How about some other options? Sure! After this update these categories will be available in addition to browsing by series:

- Browse by console
- Browse by arranger
- Browse duets
- Browse arrangements for two pianos

People have requested the ability to browse the arrangements of an individual arranger. Consider that request fulfilled. Console listing wasn't exactly requested, but a fun little addition anyway. Also giving duets and two-piano arrangements their own categories should make it easier for people who are specifically searching for then.

Our old sheet database doesn't have any data regarding consoles, so the console category might seem rather bare for the time being. The console information has to be added manually so it'll take some time before all our games have found a proper console to call their home.

Unfortunately if you go check the site now, you don't see the changes anywhere. This is because this update is still somewhat work in progress. The actual changes happen tomorrow but I wanted to post about this today, as scheduled. This was mostly because this week was rather busy in regards to work and studies. Sorry about that.

Another update next week!

UPDATE: The changes are now live! The console listing is still incomplete, but it will be updated during the next few days.

UPDATE 2: Console listing is now done.
