Off-Topic / Re: This might explain some things

as long as you don't do it again, don't sweat it
instead become a TWG player for life

Alternatively, just become the admin of the entire website. I know a guy who did that for like a decade, despite only producing a couple of terrible sheets directly from MIDIs.

Quote from: popo447 on January 13, 2020, 09:04:34 PMI recently had the thought to come on here and reflect on my most formative years of internet participation. Look at my post history from nearly a decade ago and you'll see how I started out as someone illiterate in the archaic ways of internet forum etiquette and have since gone on to become a student of exactly how people develop schema for online communication.

As part of my own interest, and as someone poised to become an educator in composition and communication, I wanted to come back to what is perhaps the ground zero of my journey on the internet—this thread on this forum, where so many of you reluctantly got to know me back in the day. I wish to return one last time to laugh at how annoying and naive my adolescent trolling was, but also to reflect on just how far I've come in the time between the creation of this account and now.

It's put a smile on my face and gave me a bit more insight into how I've learned to exist in communities online.

Thanks for the memories, NinSheetMusic...

This was a great post.

Also, reading the following posts about people realizing how young they were when they made their way here... I was 14 when I joined and am soon turning 30. That means that NSM has existed for the majority of my life.

The early 2000's were a great time on the internet. Forums were so much better than this current social media stuff. And now I feel like some old grandpa visiting the small town he was born in, remembering the time before everyone moved to the large cities nearby.

Off-Topic / Re: A question about the history of NSM.

As someone who's been around since 2004, I should probably know quite a few things.

Though I suspect I should have written much of this down as the memories get quite hazy over time.

You need to be a bit less vocal about your travels. Wouldn't want everyone to know about the NSM business deals and admin parties.

Site News / So long, and thanks for all the fish
June 06, 2018, 01:07:15 PM
It was nearly ten years ago when G-Han, the founder of NinSheetMusic, wrote his fair farewell. In that farewell he entrusted this website to me, to continue what he had started. Now, ten years later, it is time for me to follow that example.

What I have learned recently, is that time is quite a limited resource. It is important to find the important things in life and focus on them. Unfortunately, NinSheetMusic no longer remains in that category for me, nor it has been in a while. For the best of the future of this website, it is better that someone for whom NSM is a focus to take the reins.

Thankfully, those people are not hard to find. Even in my absence, the site has kept going thanks to the talented and hardworking staff we have accrued during the years. Although the old guard is mostly gone, it has been a pleasure to see new faces join the crew along the way. As not to keep the suspense any longer, I can officially announce that Latios212 will replace me as the administrator of NinSheetMusic. Best of luck to him and the rest of the staff.

As for me? I'll probably still hang around, especially now that I can freely roam without any sort of responsibility.

See you around,
- Jamaha

I'm kidding, we missed you, please don't ban me.

Love you too.

Quote from: mikey on May 14, 2018, 11:18:44 AMjust kidding, how's it been

My doctoral thesis went to pre-examination so now I'm just waiting for the results. Really enjoying the thesis-less nights and weekends, I must admit. Means I also get to do some new research for a change.

Site News / Forum problems
September 25, 2016, 06:12:58 AM
Hi all, you might have noticed some problems with the forums earlier today. The forum installation was not working properly so we had to reinstall the forum. Everything should work normally now.

We'll need to reinstall the forum modifications so some familiar forum functionality (spoiler tags etc.) do not work right now. Fixing them ASAP.

Let me know if there are any further problems,

Off-Topic / Re: The NSM Hot Bod Project
August 23, 2016, 05:13:13 AM
Status update: No Hot Bod yet. This is to be expected, of course.

First point of training was to get the schedule going. I now seem to have reached a point where I can get myself to the gym at 7 am three times a week.

Then it's the matter of getting my body used to training. Turns out if you haven't done anything except occasional running, there's a bit of a learning curve. Of course there's the mental aspect as well. As it turns out, it's not exactly trivial to start pushing one's body to its limits after a lifetime of inactivity. I imagine my body thinks something like "Whoa! It appears someone has placed 135 lbs of weight on our back. Okay, don't panic, I think we can get rid of this. Let's just dr---OH GOD WHY ARE YOU SQUATTING DOWN WITH THE WEIG-- Oh, wow, we got back up. That's a miracle, now if you just get rid of th--NO NOT AGAIN"

Some actual numbers: (for reference, 1 kg = 2.2 lbs)

Squat: 3x5 x 35 kg -> 3x5 x 60 kg
Bench Press: 3x5 x 20 kg -> 3x5 x 35 kg
Overhead Press: 3x5 x 20 kg -> 3x5 x 25 kg
Deadlift: 1x5 x 45 kg -> 1x5 x 75 kg
Chin-ups (assisted): 6 x -15 kg

Not much, but better than before.

Just checking in once in a while to prove that I am still alive.

Also, I just signed the new contract for my job. This one is for two years. By current university standards that feels almost permanent.

Site News / Update, Sunday 24th of July 2016
July 24, 2016, 01:21:17 PM
With this update, our site now hosts over 3000 arrangements. As far as I know, that is a rather large number.

As with all large milestones, I am let out of the storage to do the honors. Hopefully I don't mess up anything considering that the last time I hit the UPDATE button in our submission management system was when were debugging it.

The sheer quantity of the arrangements shows how important it is to have a large community behind a site like this. Without Deku Trombonist's sheet submission system we'd still be turning our updater crew insane with our antiquated updating process. Without our updating crew we'd have no quality control whatsoever or the ability to process the arrangements submitted by our arrangers, giving valuable guidance in the process. And of course the aforementioned arrangers as well, without whom we'd have no arrangements to host.

I would also like to point out that all this has been done as a hobby. No one has earned any money from this. Despite that, we have been able to create over 3000 arrangements, just because we as a community wanted to. I think that says something.

Onwards to 4000!

Jamaha
