Help! / How to make measure/phrase repeat sign?

As title says. I saw pumpy_heart do it for one of his LoZ Skyward Sword arrangements, Lanaryu's Mining Facility, I wanted to know how to do that in Finale 2011.

Creativity Corner / People playing Bespinben's arrangements!
« on: April 20, 2012, 05:38:28 AM »
This is pretty much going to be your standard "So-and-so Plays Piano" thread, except that, not only will it include me playing my own arrangements, but also other people playing my arrangements.

Let's start off with this person's slightly slower tempo rendition of my Pokémon Mystery Dungeon "Sky Tower" piano duet:

Help! / Should I transpose this Ab minor piece to A Minor?
« on: April 09, 2012, 01:11:21 PM »
For my most recent arrangement project, I've discovered that the original song is in Ab minor, 7 flats. Should I perhaps transpose it up to A minor (0 flats) for easier readability? The song itself somewhat resembles a bouncy, medieval ballad, and I don't think the color of Ab minor suits that anyway -- in fact, according to THIS, Ab minor is the key of "wailing lament", which doesn't fit this song I'm arranging at all.

What this really boils down to is would it be acceptable to perform this transposition, or would that be breaking NSM's strict transcription rules?

(...or I could just use the enharmonic equilavent key of G# minor with 5 sharps, maybe :/ what do you guys think?)

Nintendo / It's been 5 years since Diamond and Pearl...

I heard this beautiful orchestration of Twinleaf Town from the anime and thought to myself, "Am I seriously already starting to get nostalgia over 4th gen?"

That ocarina is just perfect. Made me cry a lil' on the inside.

Completed and on site

Also simply referred to as Groose's Theme, this is an amazing song from the most amazing, groundbreaking game ever. It must be arranged!

Music / Corridors of Time ~ from Chrono Trigger
« on: December 01, 2011, 10:48:36 AM »
READ: This isn't a request in the normal sense of getting someone else to arrange. This is more of a prospection to see who may be interested in a collaboration to arrange this piece.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most piano covers I've seen of "Corridors of Time" use Zohar's arrangement, and occasionally the more difficult Zohar & Valente arrangement. I'm interesting in making an arrangement of this song that is more of a "reduction" of the original fitted onto the piano using UnofficialSoundtrack's original cover as the main reference. Essentially, I would like to make sheet music out UnofficialSoundtrack's piano cover, and would like all else interested to join me in this endeavor.

Help! / Need help with assignment of dynamics
« on: October 01, 2011, 12:53:35 AM »
Right now, I'm trying to convert my "Kanto Wild Pokémon Battle" piano duet arrangement into .mus. The problem is that whenever I place a dynamic marking on one stave, Finale applies that dynamic marking for ALL the staves. I need it so that I can have one hand playing a line fortissimo while the other plays mezzo-forte, if you understand, but Finale won't let me, as far as I know. How would I go about applying separate dynamics? Please help.

[DS] Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky - "I Don't Want to Say Goodbye" - Bespinben Mus Midi Pdf
Status: Accepted

Deku: Is there anything that can be done to clean up the R.H  from 88 onwards (presentation-wise)?

Bespinben: I decided completely rewrite the entire arrangement. Here is the [MUS]. Addressing the problem above specifically, I split the right hand into two separate staves for clarity.

Winter:Very very very beautiful. I can also say it's playable now. (The difficult section) Not that it wasn't before... I thought it was really pretty and attempted playing it though ^.^

Deku: I suppose we'll let this one through :P Also, props for being the first person (to my knowledge) to use 3 staves in a solo piano arrangement for this site.

Bespinben: @Winter - That makes me very happy to hear that :) Thank you.
@ Deku - I sure hope so! I worked quite awhile on that revision. If I must add, I believe Maestro's arrangement of the Final Bowser Battle theme from Super Mario 64 utilized three staves, but that's not on site. Like you said though, it was "to [your] knowledge".

Winter: Wahoo! Something was accepted!

Help! / PROJECT .MUS CONVERSION -- **Now Finished!**
« on: August 21, 2011, 10:53:03 PM »
*All done*   ;D

INITIATE PROJECT .MUS CONVERSION!
Volunteers needed!

That's right, I am now attempting to convert my arrangements into .mus format thanks to my recent acquisition of Finale 2011 so that my work can be submitted to the site. I will need assistance in carrying out this project, as I have thus far arranged 21 pieces, each being fairly long and many being duets. To make this easier on myself (and to all potential volunteers), I downloaded a trial of version of the newly released Sibelius 7 which has built-in MusicXML export so I can convert my .sib to .xml, which converts better into Finale than through .sib to .midi and then importing the .midi into Finale. As such, I will post an .xml file paired with its .pdf of the original for each of my current arrangements so that I (and anyone willing to help) can import the file into Finale and edit the .mus until it matches the PDF.

Instructions for importing XML into Finale:
1.) Right-click the the XML link for the song you would like to help convert.
2.) Click "Save Target As" and save into the Desktop
3.) Go to your Desktop and right-click the XML file you just downloaded. Click "Open with" and select Finale.

Tips for editing:
1.) Finale doesn't seem to recognize any of the dynamics, tempo markings, or other expressions imported via MusicXML. They will still show up on the score, so when editing the .mus to match the PDF, make sure to edit the expression definition of the expression so that it shows up in the playback.

Help! / How to hide things in a drop-down menu (e.g. spoiler)
« on: August 21, 2011, 08:15:09 AM »
Just as title says. I would like to know how to hide things in spoilers because I keep a log of all my updates in my submissions thread, and having 16 updates thus far makes scrolling down to my arrangements very long. Thanks!

This is a place where you can post pictures of your various cosplay outfits, costumes, work-in-progress photos, designs, etc. They can be yours, or it can be someone else's and you wanted to post them because they're just so awesome.

To start us off, I'm going to show you all an ultra epic work-in-progress shot of Caninehybrid's Groudon costume. It's green because she just finished the foam construction and is now working on sewing the red velour knit fabric:

Feedback / Cross-staff beaming in Finale
« on: August 16, 2011, 02:57:55 AM »
I was considering upgrading from Finale Notepad such I could employ cross-staff beaming in my arrangements, but I was wondering which of the Finale products is capable of this. My internet searching proved unfruitful, so I must ask the Ninsheetmusic community, which Finale product can produce cross-staff beaming? I imagine full Finale can, but I would like to see if any of the cheaper products are capable of this.

Help! / Quick arranging question!
« on: August 15, 2011, 05:25:27 AM »
I am currently in the process of making a two piano arrangement of the "Ending Credits" from Pokémon Black and White, and I had a certain question about how I should present a certain musical phrase. Please compare the treble line in the first piano in the following two PDFs:

Version 1: [PDF]
Version 2: [PDF]
Sample MIDI of Work-in-Progress: [MIDI]

You will notice that in version 1, the rhythm of the treble line has been specified using sextuplets, whereas in version 2, that same rhythm has been specified using triplets. I was unsure whether to use the former or the latter, because on one hand, I felt using sextuplets helped elongate the phrase, yet on the other, I felt using triplets would ensure easier sight-reading. I would like to inquire of the Ninsheetmusic community's opinion on this matter. Thank you!

P.S. Please ignore the note overlap between the left hand and right hand in the first piano. I will fix that latter. This is a work-in-progress after all.
