So my friend and I have been apartment hunting for the past month or two because we were tired of student housing and kept hearing good stories from everyone about how comparatively cheap they were getting off campus apartments. We finally found one we really liked about a week ago, and jumped right on the opportunity, thinking we'd be backed with my friend's family friend in Connecticut as the guarantor, as they'd agreed to do so. But they dropped out last minute, and we got rejected.

So now, we've been having to apply with my parents (who only make half as much as they'd need to be our guarantor) and his parents (who live in Panama) as potential guarantors, and the place we're currently applying to is asking for the whole year's rent in advance. And it's turning out to actually be more expensive than student housing.

Fuck.

The runner pretended to be an idiot for a moment, and had done a glitch to get some Psychic TMs under the pretense of teaching it to his abra before a gym battle, and then started the battle like "Oh wait no I forgot to teach it! Oh well, teleport is still psychic type so it's fine" and then pretended to be shocked when it didn't work

but then he went back to the pokemon center having accomplished what he intended in setting up a glitch

double post but wait what the fuck does this guy only know information about pokemon in relation to speed running?

"Oh wait I forgot to teach it Psychic. Oh well, teleport is psychic type move so we should be fine" wait what the shit do you expect teleport to do in a trainer battle

Wait was he literally just trying to pretend like he cared about winning

Nvm that's gold

I've never really considered the matter, so I don't exactly have an opinion, but care to cite your sources?

And insigturtle, that's for one year (mine is $46k not counting room and board), but also more accurate for private schools. State schools tend to be cheaper, for the most part, though they also tend to give less financial aid/scholarships.

How many stock is it? Because if it's 2, honestly I so rarely get sudden death in for glory mode. I'm not even that aggressive of a player, it's just that if you utilize all of your options, the attack > grab > shield > attack dynamic isn't all that stall-worthy. The problem is that many newer players underuse grab, and so yeah, defensive play styles will often pay off immensely. While infinite air dodge does make shielding against any air approaches more appealing, you still have to take the mind game into account, and if you become too predictable by doing this repeatedly, you're putting yourself at a disadvantage.

(actual video optional; I'd recommend listening without visuals at least once at first, part of the experience for me was just listening to the lyrics and getting a tattered idea for myself of how truly fucked up the song is haha)

1. Idk what you think qualifies as a string quartet, but they typically have string instruments in them :P

2. How did this person get so lazy with copying that they didn't realize the ostinato pattern in the bass lasts two measures before repeating?
Like, that's not even taking a liberty with the arrangement, it's just an arbitrary, unnecessarily reductive change

3. I might actually die of boredom playing the clarinet or bassoon parts

4. CLARINET AND BASSOON IN MEASURE 33, 35, 37??!??!??!??!??!??!??
THE BASSOON LITERALLY BREAKS INTO FOUR VOICES AT ONE POINT
THERE AREN'T EVEN USUALLY THAT MANY BASSOONS IN A FULL ORCHESTRA
LET ALONE A WOODWIND QUARTET
WHICH, BY DEFINITION, WILL ONLY HAVE ONE OF EACH INSTRUMENT
EVEN THE BASSOON PLAYER MOST SKILLED IN EXTENDED TECHNIQUES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY THAT MANY VOICES USING HARMONICS
AND EVEN IF THEY COULD, IT WOULD SOUND LIKE TEN THOUSAND MOSQUITOES SCREAMING IN AGONY AS THEY'RE SMOTHERED TO DEATH BY TWO MORTALLY WOUNDED HOGS ENGAGING IN THE ACT OF LOVEMAKING ONE LAST TIME BEFORE THEY SAY GOODBYE TO THE CRUEL, CRUEL WORLD THAT ALLOWED FOR THIS ARRANGEMENT TO EXIST
FRANKLY, THIS IS JUST ABSURD

...ahem.
Considering you posted this in the MMD thread, sorry if I'm shitting on your parade, mael. It's always nice to see one's own arrangements being put to use. I just honestly don't understand why somebody with no apparent knowledge of arranging or woodwind quartets would decide to make a woodwind quartet arrangement. What do they gain? I'm all for educational experiences and/or performance opportunities, but I really don't see how this would have fostered either, considering it's A: unperformable and B: lazily copied at most parts, DGAFed at the rest

Just played through Bastion. Daaamn. That was awesome. A beautiful, innovative world with fun combat mechanics and great storytelling. I may be a little late in the recommendation game for this one, but seriously, I highly recommend playing if you haven't already.

Though it may be more at home in the "miscellaneous arrangements" board :P

No yeah, trust me I write with actual echo as opposed to reverb a decent amount. But echo puts much more emphasis on the attack of a note's envelope than reverb does, and flute, especially in this setting, isn't a very attack-centric instrument. You're also right that the tempo is much of what would hinder an eighth note delay here; it'd just sound way too mechanical.

As for DAWs, as much as I despise apple, I'd recommend logic. It seemed daunting to me at first, but ended up being much easier to learn and use than I'd imagined. Pro tools is really just for post-logic or post-recording sessions, and ableton/reason are more for electronic music.

Whoa I suck at responding

Thanks for the feedback dahans! It's really weird, even back when you posted this, that piece was already a distant memory, so I really had to go back and look at it again, haha. I've been noticing this trend where I start to despise anything I've written about a year or so after I've written it, so I definitely agree that the phrygian piece could've been more elaborate/harmonically interesting. Though I do have to disagree with your preference against the mode in general :P It can sound pretty great when written well, a la Yasunori Mitsuda:

let's get some chrono trigger up in this bitch (again)

As for calm before the storm, I'm glad you liked it! Looking back, it's definitely a little simplistic/repetitive for my tastes, but I'm still pretty happy with the general feel/chromaticism. I'd probably at least add some percussion for ambient effects (cymbal rolls, wind chimes, etc.) if I went back, but at this point I'm kinda content just leaving it as a learning experience and working on other pieces.

Speaking of other pieces!

This first one, I'm actually kinda surprised I didn't already share it. I thought I did, to be honest, but I guess I only shared the finale playback version (in my last post) when I first wrote it. But to reiterate, it's another hometown theme, and the first thing I ever fully* fleshed out in a DAW. Exclusively recorded in pro tools, using some VSL samples.

(And yes, I know the bassoon part is pretty similar to the one in my last hometown theme, but shh)

The most recent thing I've written was this intro for a webseries (on animated TV shows) that I'm working on. Considering the subject matter, I decided to structure it like an anime opening. Still in the process of working out the intro sequence itself, but the director is pretty happy with the piece. This is the full version, which is going to be used for the pilot episode, but there's going to be a shorter version that's basically just the last 16 bars.

This is the first time I've ever actually done anything in logic, so it was fun going from not knowing how the program works to having this done in the span of three days. I did it using mostly Ministry of Rock 2 samples, which are neat because they're really high quality, and generally pretty realistic as far as rock samples go. I do have a few qualms with the way they try to achieve realism (I can understand wanting variability in the samples, but each sample is often too varied, and the user is given very little control over this), but overall I'm pretty happy with the product. I also used Hollywood Strings for the violin (and I've seriously yet to find an arco violin sample I really like). This is an unmixed version (meaning no panning, less-than-optimal reverb, and questionable volume levels); my friend who's doing sound for the webseries will also be mixing my piece, which is cool, because I'm going to get to sit in and learn about his process. He's also considering recording the guitar parts himself if we get enough time to do so, which would be awesome.
