Soooo this'll be like a thing for me to talk about jazz albums/songs I like. Come for the good music, stay for the.... analysis of the good music? Idk.

Anyways, starting with something fairly accessible, let's talk about Herbie Hancock :)

This is actually a Wayne Shorter song called "Witch Hunt", off of the album Speak No Evil.

Lots of really good playing here. It's Wayne and Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Ron Carter on bass, Elvin Jones on drums.

Awesome song, awesome solos, but probably the best thing is the drum fill into Wayne Shorter's solo. Holy hell Elvin Jones!

Home-Made Compositions / PDS' Compositions
March 21, 2016, 01:39:29 AM
So, more to come soon, but for now, enjoy a simple little mazurka, obviously inspired by those of Chopin.

Soon to come: 3 short pieces (that are connected), 4 etudes, 2-4 impromptus, among others.

Mazurka in A minor, Op. 3 (Only because I wrote this later but put it into Finale later).

Cheers for now! Hopefully it isn't too harsh on the ears!

So, I'm rearranging "Power Hungry Fool" from FE Path of Radience.
The original arrangement on the site is quite horrid, as you can see here; no key signature, some bad formatting, old URL, incorrect enharmonics, plainly incorrect notes all over the place. If this were resubmitted today, no way in hell would it be put back up on the site.
So, here's my question. Is this one that I should still give credit to the original arranger, or am I changing enough to constitute credit given to me, even though the base is what I'm working with?

Hi all!

*insert standard speech about what an unofficial project is*

In all seriousness, the goal of this project is to get every song from Pokemon Colosseum, one of the more unnoticed Pokemon titles, on the site. If you're new, I recommend you go read Yug_Guy's awesome FAQ about Undertale, as the same rules apply to here (lazy I know, but ehh effort for anything else).
I figured since everyone else is using the color code, we will as well!
Color code:
Black - not yet arranged
Red - on site, but needs to be fixed/replaced
Purple - on site, but only needs minor fixing like URL, title, etc.
Orange - in progress
Blue - arranged and ready for checking
Green - approved by myself as well as other members here (not quite accepted, as that would require other updaters to approve as well)
Green - on site, and perfect (in other words don't worry about this sheet, we won't need to update it)

(Yes, that was copied from the unofficial minecraft project. Yes, I'm lazy. Yes, full credit to original list poster. ON WITH THE SHEETS!)

Here's the complete soundtrack, and what we have so far (Here's the OST for reference):

- Title Theme
- Opening Demo (We may skip this since it's heavily reliant on sound effects and is in essence Cipher Syndicate remixed)
- Main Menu
- Wes Steals the Snag Machine (we may not be able to actually arrange this since it relies heavily on sound effects)
- Outskirt Stand
- News 1
- First Battle
- Win Battle
- World Map
- Normal Battle
- Level Up (One phrase)
- Rui Joins Wes (One phrase)
- Phenac City
- Pokemon Center
- Es Cade's Theme - Taken by PDS
- Cipher Syndicate
- Pyrite Town
- Pyrite Building
- Heal Pokemon (One phrase)
- Item Get (One phrase)
- Trainer School - Taken by Latios212
- Snatch Shadow Pokemon
- Cipher Peon Battle
- Miror B's Groove (needs more than formatting fixes IMO, but we're free to disagree here)
- Mirakle B's Imitation Groove (we may not actually do this since it's basically ^ transposed to a different key and slight differences)
- Agate Village - Taken by Latios212
- Relic Forest
- Cipher Admin Battle
- Semifinal Battle
- The Under
- Shadow Pokemon Lab - Taken by Bubbles
- Colosseum Round One intro
- Colosseum Round Two intro
- Colosseum Semifinal intro
- Colosseum Final intro
- Colosseum Semifinal Battle
- Fadeen the Fortune Teller
- Evolution
- Relic Forest in Danger
- Time Flute (One phrase)
- Mt. Battle Rest Room
- News 2
- Realgam Tower
- Snagem Hideout
- Nascour's Theme
- Final Battle
- Ending Theme A
- Ending Theme B
- Battle Mode Menu
- Vs. Mode Battle #1
- Vs. Mode Battle #2
- Vs. Mode Battle #3
- Virtual
- PDA Ringtones 1-5 - Taken by PDS
- PDA Ringtones 6-10 - Taken by PDS

Who's with me?!?!
I'll take Es Cade's Theme, since I have an arrangement of that from a while back that's nearly done, and can be completed in about an hour or so. I also have some fragments of stuff, but Es Cade is the only one I'm claiming right now.
Anyone can join, let's get this awesome game fully represented on the site!  :D :D :D :D :D

PC / Old Runescape
December 16, 2015, 04:50:21 PM
Soooo I started playing Old RS (2007 edition with some minor tweaks) a while back, and then the whole school thing happened and I didn't touch it for ~6 weeks or so. Winter break is coming up so I was wondering the possibility of playing again...
only to find out my account was reset.
Anyone know any fixes to this?

tbh I'll be surprised if anyone knows what I'm talking about

Music / The NinSheetMusic Pedagogy
September 05, 2015, 08:31:19 PM
So, while many of the pianists and other musicians here (myself included) love classical music and know how much it helps to play it, I got around to thinking. What if we have a thread (perhaps stickied? Maybe? Please and thank you?) that gives pieces to work on certain aspects of technique, or just give a list of pieces in progressive difficulty? Perhaps noting what difficulties there are so a pianist can go to this thread and pick out a piece to use to work on a technique.
Below a horizontal rule I'll manage the list. Though we may want to establish a difficulty rating system, but I'm not too sure about that.
Your thoughts?
(By the way, I'm enclosing one piece in the list)

"Verdanturf Town (Pokemon R/S/E)": To improve balance between the hands, bringing out a cantabile melody, legato thirds and chords.

"Dream of the Shore Near Another World" (Chrono Cross)- Improving coordination between the hands, often involving playing the accompaniment with both hands

"Linbeck's Theme" (TLoZ: Phantom Hourglass): Leaps in the left hand, melodic articulation necessary in the right.

"Loading Screen" (Poképark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure): Basic note reading

"Cinnabar Island" (Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver): Basic note reading

"Battle! (Wild Pokémon)" (Pokémon Red Version & Blue Version): Chromatic runs

"Fear of the Heavens" (The Secret of Mana): Improving arpeggios

Story Telling / A story a la ze Fallout universe
August 25, 2015, 09:31:23 PM
So, even though I took a creative writing seminar last semester, I still probably suck, so anyone who wants to help contribute is welcome to :D
Prologue and or first chapter being written basically now.
Oh, also, I'll write a "Comments On" thread once the first bit of writing is up (whatever I end up calling it).
Edit: my internet just went down, but have no fear! I saw the warning signs and copy pasted it to a notepad (not finale, lol) file, so the prologue should be up soon!

August 21, 2015, 03:14:44 PM
This game. I love it so much, it's like my secret obsession.
Anyways, I was planning to take a shot at a few pieces from the amazing OST, so I'm just curious if anyone else has played it.
If you haven't you should join. And join Ruairi server.

Off-Topic / Any archers here?

I've been getting into it a bit, and just got paid for a piano gig I did.
I'm looking into potentially getting a new bow, or at the very least a better string (mine has a draw weight of like 20 pounds, lol).
Also looking into getting a pistol crossbow.
Any recommendations?

Help! / Notating the exact amount of swing in Finale?
August 07, 2015, 10:53:03 AM
So alongside my Megaman arrangement (which since it's arranged already I might drop, or just work on every once in a while for the practice) I'm doing Gateon Port from Pokemon XD.
In noteflight (the notation program I use before XML importation), it has a "swing meter", where you can adjust the amount of swing. 25% on that meter makes it work perfectly, I'm just wondering how one would notate that in finale.

I'm doing an arrangement of Pokemon Colosseum's Cipher Syndacite Theme, and there's a guitar riff I want to include. But, doing it with the bass (how I have it notated, at least) creates a somewhat large gap (a tenth) between the guitar and part of the bass line (albeit the section isn't vital).
I was thinking about putting the little parenthesis around it, or whatever it is, that basically means "play this if you can".
Personally, I've worked it out on piano and it fits my hand fine, but I know not everyone has large hands.
Is the option I mentioned viable?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Realized I was using the wrong bass figure anyways; one from a later measure.
I'm still curious though, is this a generally discouraged practice?

Help! / Inserting MM tempi into Notepad?
June 25, 2015, 05:51:33 PM
Can it even be done? I'm checking online and it's only giving resources for 2012 and 2014.

EDIT: Found out how to do with Maestro font. I really should do better research before I post..

Urgh, I feel stoopid. This is like the fourth help thread I've made in the past week
#18
I put this in another thread, but it didn't get answered so I'll post what I originally said, and then paraphrase.
"can someone help me with putting proper NSM standard format on my sheet in Notepad after I imported the XML (skype would be preferable, but PM should be fine)?"
If that's not something Notepad can do. My selector tool isn't working so I'm assuming it's not..

(Also, this is a super basic question, and even after looking at the only other thread I could find I couldn't figure it out: How does one name links?)

Help! / Is it "bad" to use three staves a lot?
June 23, 2015, 05:50:21 PM
So, on top of the first song I'm arranging, I also decided to pick up Pyrite Building from Pokemon Colosseum (link at the end of the post).
Because there are "three voices", so to speak, during a lot of it, I've decided to use three staves, as the online notation program I'm using right now only allows two voices (it's the only program I've found to be intuitive enough for me to actually enjoy arranging, lol). So I've just taken to using three staves, two treble and one bass.
Is this necessarily "bad"? Would an arrangement be less likely to be accepted because of it? With my other arrangement (A grand tale of time and darkness) I'm doing it basically out of necessity, but with this one it's more of a personal taste thing.
The song in general, to include all three voices, includes some awkward hand positions to maintain legato (the largest stretch as of right now is a 7th, but it puts your hand into an awkward position to be playing two voices).
I personally love doing this, as I can notate this more clearly. That said, I could also notate it in two staves, albeit slightly more difficultly (and the sheet would look messier).
Thoughts?
