There's a lot of soft high notes in this and I wanted to try and capture them as much as I can to convey the space of the piece. Because of the nature of the composition, it is a little hard to make the melody clear in notation.
At m10 there's a really dissonant note playing and I was having trouble deciding if I liked it or not (as well as what exactly are the notes) so I'd like input there

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 26, 2023, 08:30:39 AMNo I meant three grace notes, but to further clarify, I meant Gn. The half note is G#
Oop, so it is

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 26, 2023, 08:30:39 AM• Just for clarification sake, I do hear an 8th note on 4.5 for most of the beat 4's for the m43-55 section (the measures like m43 or 44 with a quarter note on beat 4). Did you exclude those notes intentionally?
So I did exclude those intentionally, but I think I could add in some of them.

jeez, actually insane 😳
outstanding arrangement and performance!

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 11, 2023, 08:29:15 PM• m11 RH lower layer technically the pitches move up a little here, you could have an A one octave up and a C below it.
I'm not gonna have the C restrike because it already plays in the melody and having the octave felt unecessary.

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 11, 2023, 08:29:15 PM• Additionally I don't hear the added pitches for m18 4.0-4.5 and m19 1.0-1.5
So I relistened and didn't hear any different harmonies for b4-4.5, but I do hear the ones in m19 in the little bell instrument.

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 11, 2023, 08:29:15 PM• m42 RH 4.0 G# is also above E on this beat
I didn't add that one to keep the string melody as the top note (also I think the contrast between that and the next part sounds cool).

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 11, 2023, 08:29:15 PM• m56 top layer beat 3 grace note, hearing 3 grace notes, F-F#-G
I'm assuming you meant 2 grace notes? Unless you're saying the G restrikes?

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 11, 2023, 08:29:15 PM• m57 RH top 4.5 this note isn't tied, restruck beat 1.0 in 58
So it does! :o

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 11, 2023, 08:29:15 PMLH
• Lower layer m5, m7, m21 and m23 LH 1.5 hearing a D (maybe make it same octave as the upper layer D?), and 3.5 hearing E, and beat 4 F
omg i was reading bass clef wrong and was like "why are the notes you're saying not matching" 💀 Also, I'm assuming you meant beat 2.5? I chose to have the D play down the octave to continue that motion.

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 11, 2023, 08:29:15 PM• m59-65 LH are these notes following the rhythms of the percussion specifically? If that is the case, I would give a relisten, I think each of the rhythms is off a little from the drum's actual rhythms.
Yeah it was sort of a vague suggestion of the percussion. I didn't want to include any of the sixteenth notes because I think that'd get too busy, but I did try and match it a little closer.

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 03, 2023, 07:16:42 PMBtw some font silliness on you first tempo.
How does this keep happening LOL

Updated.

Alright so I found and listened to an upload of the PAL version and added all those tempos as a tempo range for each tempo change. I changed the note to say that the ideal tempo would be halfway between those two (and set the playback to play at that tempo), as that is what Tim Follin said in the link Zeila shared.

Quote from: Zeila on April 10, 2023, 12:34:28 AM*edit: I went to go listen to the PAL OST, and I found out that it's supposedly the version Follin originally composed for. I saw a direct comment from him, but it's for a different game's OST. Perhaps you could make a note that it could be performed at a slower tempo, or actually change it alongside the key signatures and base this off of the PAL version. OR you could put a range or something somewhere in between the two tempos if that were to be his "ideal" speed

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 01, 2023, 07:32:21 PM• I understand the tempo font sizes being bigger overall, maybe make that consistent for all the noteheads too? Starting tempo quarter notehead is only 12 pt and the 113 text is 14 pt font; it looks a little weird considering all the other tempo noteheads are 14 pt.
LOL how did that happen

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 01, 2023, 07:32:21 PM• I'm not sure how many people will note the PAL difference. Maybe you could include the PAL tempo in your note at the bottom? Are you intending it to be an optional tempo?
It's intended to be an optional tempo, more along the lines of "don't feel like you have to play up to tempo. I didn't include the tempo because then I'd have to include it for each tempo change.

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 01, 2023, 07:32:21 PM• Should both CSG Imagesoft and Nintendo be put in the credits? Publishing and release section on Wikipedia is somewhat of an amusing read.
90s publishing is wild 😳

Quote from: Kricketune54 on September 01, 2023, 07:32:21 PM• m34-37 RH was first going to comment about the octaves being different but I understand why you wrote it this way. No feedback just acknowledging :)

Quote from: Latios212 on August 28, 2023, 04:10:54 PMIt's nice to have the LH layers separated in the A section to see what's part of what part but they alternate so nicely it'd probably be neater for the performer to simply combine them in one layer. You absolutely don't have to though, just a thought.
I asked some other people and they said the separate layers were easier for them so I left it :p

Quote from: Latios212 on August 28, 2023, 04:10:54 PM- I'm not super sure I hear the last three notes in the upper layer in m. 44 as written... if anything I hear D instead of E but I'm really not sure about this one.
I'm notating the harp part there (which is originally an octave lower) but it gets kinda lost near the end of the measure. I listened again and realized I had the last 4 notes wrong, though the last note gets completely lost to me..

Quote from: Latios212 on August 21, 2023, 06:29:29 PMAh man, not doing any proper checks right now but peeking in and I really like how you arranged the C section for both of these! The powerful chords and sweeping span of the left hand work nicely to bring out the climax in each. (I need to re-listen to these pieces more, it's been ages since I listened to the GtI soundtrack...)
Thanks! I decided to arrange them after trying to play threelines' version of Withered Savannah. As cool and fun as that is, I thought it'd be nice to have an easier one (and more normal i guess lol) with the same intensity.

Quote from: Latios212 on August 21, 2023, 06:29:29 PM- Are some notes/ties awkwardly flipped in the RH of m. 6-10 of Holehills? It's showing up like that in my Finale and if it's the case for you too, might need to reset some flip directions if it's leftover from some erased layer work
I kept noticing that but it never crossed my mind that they were flipped 😭

Quote from: Latios212 on August 21, 2023, 06:29:29 PMI think what you have is fine. For m. 1 and 17 it's clear enough as you have it but for m. 5 and 21 it's not super clear that you want it to be played by the right hand. I don't think that's really an issue though since it should be perfectly fine for the left hand to play it too. Either way I assume you want this section to be pedalled since there's no way either hand can sustain the chord for multiple measures. Also, flip the LH notes in m. 9-10 and 25-26 back to normal if there's no upper layer
Yeah, the only reason I want those chords played in the RH is because the last measure of the LH creates an awkward jump to hit that chord. And then I realized it was much easier to play each of the chords with the RH after trying that. I also flipped the LH notes in m24 to be the same as m8

Help Guides / Re: Useful Finale Shortcuts
August 19, 2023, 07:19:13 AM
Hi I'm going through and adding the Mac shortcuts!
Quote from: Zeila on August 18, 2023, 05:14:30 PM
Key(s)    Command
Option+Command+[1-4]Select Layer
N/AShow Active Layer Only
They apparently didn't code in the Show Active Layer Only shortcut for Mac, so you have to set it up yourself.
Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts and select the "App Shortcuts" on the left. Press the "+" icon on the bottom. You'll get a pop-up that asks for the application, scroll down and select Finale. For the "menu title," you need to type exactly as it appears in the dropdown tab, so it'll be "Show Active Layer Only." Then for the keyboard shortcut, type the exact command you want to use, I used ⌥⌘S (option + command + S).

Quote from: Zeila on August 18, 2023, 05:14:30 PMMeasure Distributions
Key(s)    Command
UUnlock systems
LLock systems
Shift+Command+MFit measures
Up/Down ArrowMove the selected piece of music up/down a system

Playback
If you just want to quickly know how a certain chord or passage sounds, you can use any of these shortcuts. Just note that the quick playback options outside of Playback Controls do not properly play certain modifiers such as tempo alterations, Smart Shape lines, tremolos, and etc.

While hovering your cursor over the desired staff:
Key(s)    Command
Option+SpacePlay the notes under the cursor for all staves (drag mouse across music)
Option+Shift+SpacePlay the notes under the cursor for the current staff (drag mouse across music)
Space+Left ClickPlay the song starting from the clicked measure. Click anywhere to stop
Space+Shift+Left ClickPlay the selected staff starting from the clicked measure. Click anywhere to stop
SpacePlay the song through Playback Controls
Just remember that playback controls window has to be closed for the first 4 options to work.

If you don't use template files for whatever reason like me, then this is for you! Finale's default text alignment is out of sorts with what NinSheetMusic sheets typically follow (read: Text alignment and page margins guide by Latios212), so these shortcuts are a quick way to position each text box handle alongside the margins as per the Formatting Guidelines.

Command+W    Close current file window
Command+Q    this is safe to use because the application window doesn't close without the save file prompts for all unsaved files

Notes: accidentals, beaming, and more!

These are some handy shortcuts when using the Simple Entry and Selection tools. I personally use note interval shortcuts the most for repetitive bass rhythms and chord structures.

While the notes are selected:
Accidentals (Simple Entry)
Key(s)    Command
+Turn the note into a sharp
-Turn the note into a flat
NTurn the note into a natural
Shift+=Turn the note into a double sharp
Shift+- (minus)Turn the note into a double flat
\Change pitch enharmonically (e.g. could respell C# as Db)
PToggle parentheses for courtesy accidentals
Command+Shift+- (minus)Show/Hide accidentals

Beaming/Misc. (Simple Entry)
Key(s)    Command
/Break/Join beam
Shift+/Use default beam position
Option+Up/Down ArrowCross-staff beams (w/ selection tool instead of simple entry tool)
LFlip stem
Shift+LUse default stem position
Command+FFlip tie
TTie to next note
Shift+TTie to previous note
9 or Numpad 9Create tuplet
Option+G / Command+GToggle grace note (if note is selected, use alt; if not, use ctrl)
RToggle note to rest

Note Intervals (Simple Entry)
Key(s)    Command
[1-8] (number row only)Add note the interval above (unison through octave)
Command+Shift+9 (number row only)Add ninth above
Shift+[2-9] (number row only)Add note the interval below (second through ninth)
Shift+Up ArrowChange pitch by one octave up diatonically
Shift+Down ArrowChange pitch by one octave down diatonically
Option+[1-8] (numpad)Change duration by 64th to double whole note respectively
[1-8] (numpad)Change duration for the next inserted note

While the passage is selected:
Note Intervals (Selection)
Key(s)    Command
6Transpose one whole step down (second interval diatonically)
7Transpose one whole step up (second interval diatonically)
8Transpose one octave interval down
9Transpose one octave interval up
Command+Shift+[7-9]Program transpositions
The metatools section is largely the same, there's only a few commands but just follow through the original post and you should be fine.

Quote from: Kricketune54 on August 16, 2023, 07:19:49 PMEDIT: just one thing I noticed after fact, but I don't think Game Freak needs credit? I assume your copyright info is based off ~10 year old sheets on the site, think it should just be Spike Chunsoft, The Pokémon Company, Nintendo. Also, Keisuke Ito and Yasuhiro Kawagoe I believe are the only composer credits, so just update that info
o, oops. I also updated the Withered Savannah sheet

Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 - Mistralton City Gym
So I thought this one would be easy since theoretically you'd recognize the gym theme and then be like "oh the only game that has variant of the theme is b2w2" and then you'd be like it's all floaty and stuff and then... yeah maybe it should've been in the medium category...
