Yeah, I know. Thankfully, this is only one of very few licensed tracks that this series has used. Besides, to make an arrangement of "Way to Fall" before the game's namesake track would be madness.

As long as this is still free-game, I'll be perfectly happy:

Besides, someone's gotta help beef up the teeny-tiny Metal Gear page on this site, and if someone's gotta do it, then it might as well be me.

I am thinking about doing an arrangement of Metal Gear Solid 3's end credits theme, "Way to Fall" by Starsailor. The problem is that this song wasn't actually originally written for the game, and licensing fees were paid in order to use it in the game. This is the only case of licensed music in the game, and the song itself actually holds a lot of importance to the game's story. Seriously, Kojima could not have picked a better song to follow the ending, and if you know how this game ends then you know exactly why that's true.

The game doesn't have any other real end credits theme, unless you count the short track that comes after it which is just the standard orchestral thoroughfare. What I want to know is, given the nature of licensed music, whether or not an arrangement of this song would even get a single chance at being accepted if submitted.

Okay. Draft #2 is up! Not only did I fix all the aforementioned problems with the first draft, but I was also able to condense the arrangement into two pages, since the third page was only taken up by a single line and was a real waste of paper.

Okay. Cool. Well, I want those first bass chords to be particularly forceful and quick, so I think I'll take your suggestion of keeping the marcato and combining it with staccato for clarification.

So would this be what you meant? Does this look more playable?

Also, what is marcato if not a combination of staccato and an accent?

On the topic of playability, I wasn't actually sure whether this site values playability more than accuracy to the original track, and to be honest (confession time), I'm actually not all that good at playing the piano. I'm getting better, definitely, and especially with all the practice material to be found here, but quite a bit of what you see was jotted down by hand.

Anyway, I'll see what I can do, and I'll definitely work on using the keyboard more than the mouse.

Also, I HIGHLY suggest downloading the midi if you want to hear how the arrangement actually sounds. God knows I'm not going to waste time perfecting the .mus file, because that would actually require the in-depth use of Finale NotePad.

No, "good enough," is as far as I'm willing to go with the .mus file.

This is a big one, at least for my standards, and it's only the 2nd arrangement I've submitted thus far, so there is a lot that I could have potentially screwed up.

That said, if you see any issues, then just go ahead and hit me with'em! Just as I came here to contribute, I also came here to learn.

Thank you. I think I finally have enough done right that I can submit this thing without being told I have to fix, well, everything. Expect it on the site within the hour.

Okay. So remember how I said I had the time signature all figured out for this song? Well, I thought I did, but now I'm not so sure.

The only issue I have is with the very beginning (the first 39 seconds). Keeping it in 4/4 time looks good on paper, but when I count it out in my head it sounds all kinds of weird. The only psychologically pleasing pattern I've come up with so far is going back and forth between 2/4 and 6/4 times, but that can't possibly be right, can it?

Could really use a second opinion here.
