Help! / Re: Classical music
« on: February 02, 2013, 05:31:47 AM »
I... would imagine so. There's more classical music references in video games than most people would think.
Yeah, I notice that too, but those are usually just excerpts, not the full songs.

I think you're referring to Bloop: http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=2141.0

As for the question, I'm not sure...
Oh yeah, it was Bloop.

Help! / Classical music
« on: February 02, 2013, 05:02:46 AM »
I remember not too long ago somebody made arrangements for classical music because it was in Brain Age. I don't think they tried for submission.

If there's classical music in a videogame, is it available for submission?
The game that I'm transcribing from has arrangements of classical music but with a modern twist to them, such as Pachelbel's Canon with rock elements.

Yeah, that looks much better. I was worried that I would have to ask again to get it fixed, so thanks again!

I don't mean to be a bother again, but could someone move the treble clef up an octave on measure 16 onward?

34
Thanks! I was wondering if the whole thing was in A minor, but I saw that the four sharps were prominent so I assumed it was in C# minor. I'll change it and see what it will look like.

I didn't learn much about notation format, so I didn't know that the rhythm was improper... This'll be more difficult than I thought :p

35
Ah, I see. I thought I had a broken link.

If the actual music is written up an octave, then I would suggest you write it that way. However, if you don't want it to go up, then you don't really have to make it go up.
The problem is that I don't know how to change octaves. In the song there's an instrument change, so I'm just not really sure if it goes up an octave on the piano. If I knew how to use the 8va/8vb tools during playback, I'd have a better understanding.

36
Hmm, I don't understand, that's what I did.

I don't have a "Public" folder and doesn't have a "Copy public link". It has a "share link" option, and that's how I got the link.

Is it possible for someone to change measure 8 onward to C Major? (Yeah, I know it's supposed to be A minor, but it'll be all screwed up).

Piano Arrangements / WarioWare D.I.Y. transcriptions (Easy Breezy [Bossa])
« on: February 01, 2013, 04:07:40 AM »
Since I have no arranging skills at all, I thought I could transcribe some of WarioWare D.I.Y. records. So far, I'm getting the hang of Finale Notepad already. Until I have the skills to learn notes by ear, I'll just transcribe some of the songs.

WarioWare D.I.Y.
9-Volt's records:
"A. Crossing" - "Animal Crossing on the piano!"
Jimmy's Records:
"Melancholy" (Rough Draft) - "Fiery tango with a dash of heartbreak"
Easy Breezy - "Kick back in the bossa-nova lounge."

The only problem I have is the rhythm groupings. I have no idea whether to use a dotted note, or to tie notes together.

Help! / Re: Finale Notepad

I use layer 4 for notes that are seen but not heard. For example when I use percussion sounds in an arrangement.

If you want swing, you'll have to use one of the blank expressions to set swing.

55. Light Swing Playback (75)
50. Standard Swing Playback (100)
54. Heavy Swing Playback (125)
56. Dotted Eighth, Sixteenth Swing Playback (150)

Template Documentation version 0.8

What do you mean by change the octaves? Like add an 8va/8vb?
The expressions for 8va/8vb are there, but they don't do anything to playback.

We're here to help. You say, "Transpose!", I say, "How high?".
That's reassuring :)

I finished everything I needed to do for one transcription, but all I need to do is change octaves for some measures and edit text. I don't know how to edit the game title and the "arranged by".

Help! / Re: Finale Notepad

Oooh, no wonder! Yeah, I used your template. Now that I think of it, I don't think I even need a fourth layer.

I suppose I can finish this transcription, though, the only thing I don't like is having to pester to have someone help me fix my sheet.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the tips guys.

I used the fourth layer, but it didn't seem to have any sound when I pressed play, but it seemed to play the first layer. I don't know what I did wrong with that.
I also know that dynamics such as p, pp, mf, ff, crescendos, etc., will work, but expressions such as swing doesn't work for me.

So, it would be alright if I go to that thread and ask if someone could change the octaves in certain measures?

Help! / Finale Notepad (New Q)
« on: January 31, 2013, 03:20:20 AM »
Before I try actually arranging, I wanted to get around Finale Notepad so I can use it effectively in the future. WarioWare: D.I.Y. is a lot like Mario Paint, and has pre-loaded songs in which I can transcribe into Notepad.

The problem is that I realized this is a watered down version of Finale, which makes sense, so I can't do all the things that I need to transcribe. I can't switch octaves, not all layers play during playback, expressions/dynamics won't play during playback, and all that stuff. The template provides all the symbols, but it doesn't do anything for playback.

Does everyone here actually use Finale Notepad? If you do, are there ways around this? I'd like to buy a better version, but I have no way to purchase anything online, not like I have the money anyway.

Off-Topic / Re: The Post Your Thoughts of the Moment Thread 2.

So I wanted to try to arrange this simple 14 measure GameBoy song, but then I realized I don't know how to do anything on Finale Notepad...

I'll just transcribe WarioWare D.I.Y. songs. Those'll be easy to do, and no one's probably going to do them.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize what I posted could've been a spoiler!

Just beat Paper Mario Sticker Star. The game was so awesome, but I didn't like the ending. There's nothing to do after you beat it but just to finish the accomplishments.

I admit I miss the original RPG mechanics, but who cares. The game is amazing anyway.

If someone else loves the game as much as the other PM games, you should definitely arrange Decalburg!
