The Werewolf Game / TWC(The Werewolf Council)
September 26, 2010, 08:32:41 PM
I have decided to create a council for all matters concerning TWG, and so I introduce to you in this thread: The Werewolf Council(TWC). This council consists of 5 members who are experienced with TWG and display a well-rounded knowledge of the game. Right now these members are:

Concerto No. 20 in D Minor

   Master_Gamer38

   Jake3343

   Mashi

   Nakah

The members of this council have final say in any matter concerning game rules, suggestions, questions, and so forth. There are, however, specific things that TWC will oversee:

   1. If any member wishes to host a game, they must first bring their ideas forth to TWC and earn the approval of one of it's members. Each member wishing to host a game must complete at least 1 game of TWG.

   2. If a player breaks a rule, the matter will be discussed and a punishment decided in this thread amongst the TWC members.

   3. If a TWC member feels at any time that a player has broken a rule, then they may ban this player from any current game or resolve the issue in anyway they deem fit.

The Werewolf Council is pretty much here to just provide a structural base for the forum, to make sure things don't get out of hand. This way the forum will always be governed with knowledge and experience.  Any decision that is made that will affect a member, game, or the forum itself will be decided upon by TWC.

The Werewolf Game / TWG IX: Post Game
August 27, 2010, 07:34:13 PM
Firstly, I have to say that this was by far the best TWG ever to take place on this site. Better in so many ways. I would consider this a benchmark in the TWG Forum and a monument of the first ever legitimate TWG on NSM.

So onto the post game analysis!

      The Players:

   1. Mashi -Wolf
   2. Concerto No. 20 in D Minor -Human: Lantern Keeper
   3. Universe-x -Human
   4. SlowPokemon -Human
   5. Drpamplemousse -Human
   6. Master_Gamer38 -Seer: Lantern Keeper
   7. SuperFireKirby -Human
   8. SuperRiolu -Wolf
   9. Jake3343 -The Strange Man
 10. Askalice23 -Master Wolf: Lantern Keeper

   Victory: Humans

Everyone played a lot better this game. I'm not sure whether it was the way the game was designed, the players who joined, or just a collection of experience and the right mindset. The game started off on the right foot, with a really good Day 1 phase(7 pages! Who knew so much could happen during Day 1?)

Mashi: I think your presence in this game brought a stable ground for discussion and debate. Your experience with analyzing the facts and calculating the probabilities and odds set a good foundation for everyone to base their arguments off of and develop new ideas. Although, I think if some of the humans had been reading your posts from the perspective of a wolf and not a human, it may have become a lot more apparent to them that you were trying to be the puppet master behind the curtains. Nevertheless, kudos to you for making it to the very end.

Concerto: You died early, again. You did you part well though, at least as well as you could have for the position you were in. Good decisions were made by the lantern keepers early on.

Universe: You played better this game, with less conclusive posts and more open-minded posts. Although I think you still have quite a bit to learn(as there is always more to learn in TWG), you are doing much better than your first few games. Thanks for not breaking the rules either.

Drp: Yeah, you had a slip up in the game that merited an illegal action, but no big deal. You took your punishment without complaint and saw the reasoning behind it. Even if nothing did happen between yourself and UX, there was nothing I could do without upsetting the validity of the game. Definitely look into playing(or hosting) more TWGs.

MG: You were a good seer, and lasted well into the game. I don't know much of what went on behind the curtains in PMs, but you performed your part as well as anyone could.

SlowPokemon: Rapid improvement this game, and a very good open-minded perspective through all of the fuss. You were dead on with your accusations by the end of the game, and you were on the right path leading up to said accusations. Your defense was as good as it could be, but the lynching was beyond your control(logic doesn't always win, unfortunately). Good job this game, let it be a reference for you to look back upon when playing future games, because you're definitely going to get much better as the games go on.

SuperFireKirby Another game where you held a good position as human. Keep up what your doing, because you are getting better with each game and each different scenario.

AskAlice: You did well hiding yourself while you could, but eventually the tides of suspicion caught up to you(often inevitible). I would say that like Mashi your posts were a bit more obvious from the perspective of a wolf, but that didn't really affect your positioning amongst everyone else and you did well in deceiving the lantern keepers, MG, and everyone else.

SuperRiolu: Very good first game. You were placed on a team with very experienced players and I'm glad you kept a more 'listening' stance when making wolf team decisions. You'll learn a lot faster by being mindful of those with experience, but don't be afraid to jump out and take a stand in future games either.

Jake3343 You almost seriously won this game, even to my surprise. You only sent in two guesses the entire game though(and I yelled at kotor to tell you to send in more!). You were only off by one on the last guess, however, and that was Concerto as the last of the lantern keepers. Nevertheless, you played utr and pretty well(making it all the way to the end without much spotlight). So good job there.

I am really happy with the way this TWG went. It's definitely my favorite one on the site yet. Everyone played very well, and each person helped their team advance to victory, but one person who I think stood out the most for doing that(which surprised me because of their inexperience) was Slowpokemon. I am really pleased with how level headed he finished the game, and where he left the human team at the time of his death. It is for this reason that I'm giving the MVP to Slowpokemon. Good job.

That's about all I can really say right now. I'm going to consider this the first TWG in a long line of what I hope will be a self-sustaining TWG forum community. I'm going to be doing a lot of things with this forum in the near future, but for now I'm going to get started on making the host signups thread for TWG X.

   Good job, everyone.

The Werewolf Game / TWG IX: The Lantern Keeper
August 18, 2010, 03:33:12 PM
   TWG IX: The Lantern Keeper

   --------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a dark and murky night when the strange man stepped out the door from his cabin and began walking on a dirt path leading deeper through the woods. The man had lived in these woods for years innumerable, not even the ever-growing trees could remember a time when he had not lived amongst them. Though the ages passed and the trees continued to grow taller and taller, he had always lived amongst them, protecting them and watching over the rest of the woods in walks during the night. Tonight was one of those nights. With him he carried a single lantern, but not an ordinary lantern, for this particular one had a bright green light emit from it. With it, he was truly the Keeper of the Forest.

It was on this particular night that the strange man had an encounter that which he had never had before. As he walked along the path through the dark creeping and twisting trees in the night, he saw a dim red light glowing far off in the distance. The strange man paused for a moment and held his lantern up to his eye level, and wincing he peered through the luminous green light and saw what the lantern revealed. A camp site, 10 men full, all of whom were drinking and cheering and dancing the night away around a great big bonfire.

The strange man began to grin, and put the lantern out.

Meanwhile, the men far off at the camp site continued their drink and song and merry time, enjoying the isolation and security of the woods. When it became too dark to see beyond the bonfire's glow, the men began to settle in their tents. Each of the men possessed their own tent, with one pillow and a small lantern. The last of the men put out his lantern and closed his eyes and went to sleep.

The sounds of owls and other mysterious predators filled the night, as the fog set in around the camp and the men all slept cozily.

*Shuffle* *Crackle* *Snap*

A figure glided it's way through the bushes and towards the camp.

  Everything fell silent.

"AHHH!!!" A man awoke screaming in his tent, and awaking the others he ran out in horror and grabbed a torch. All of the other men quickly rushed out with torches and found the man sitting in the fetal position on the ground in the middle of the camp. Puzzled, they asked him what caused his screaming in the middle of the night. The man said that he had a dream of an unknown creature that entered their camp during the night and had done something horrific beyond words.

The men felt fear rising from within, but reason got the best of their hearts, and they discarded his ill omen as a mere dream, and readily went back to sleep. No more dreams to wake them up before morning.

The fearful man stood up from the ground and picked up his torch. He peered through the trees and into the abysmal darkness. Then suddenly his torch was blown out by a magnificent gust of wind. He jump and went to grab his knife, and just as he could pull it out, he heard the shrieking howl on the night air.

   A-Woooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

   What to expect this game:

   Roles:

   2 Werewolves: Normal Wolves
1 Master Wolf: Seered as green, but normal wolf
   1 Strange Man: Purpose "unknown"
1 Seer: Sends in a PM every Night to see the color of a person's role.
   5 Campers: Normal Humans.

3 Lanterns of the Night: These Lanterns are given to three random members. Holding a Lantern allows the player to know the name of the other players with Lanterns. Every Night phase, the three players with lanterns will submit one vote each to the host in order to choose one person who is currently holding a lantern to be seer'd. The person with the most votes is then seer'd. The seering results will then be sent to the other two players with lanterns who were not seer'd. A lantern can be passed to another player through a PM to the host during the Night phase only. The players with Lanterns will always know who has the other lanterns. Whether or not they allow anyone who doesn't hold a lantern to possess their knowledge is entirely up to them.

IMPORTANT RULE, READ: The Strange Man during the Night phase will send a PM to the host guessing the names of the three players with lanterns. If he is correct and guesses all three of the players' names, then all three of those players are killed and the lanterns are lost forever. The strange man is not a human. He cannot be wolfed during the night, any attempt to wolf him will fail(and result in a wasted wolfing). He can be lynched, however, and that is the only way that he can be killed. If the strange man accurately guesses the three lantern keepers, then all reds in the game will die. This does not include the Master Wolf.

   The Players:

   1. Mashi
   2. Concerto No. 20 in D Minor
   3. Universe-x
   4. SlowPokemon
   5. Drpamplemousse
   6. Master_Gamer38
   7. SuperFireKirby
   8. SuperRiolu
   9. Jake3343
 10. Askalice23

It is now Night 1. All pms are to be sent to me. Know the rules, pm me with any questions. Night ends when all PMs are in or Thursday @ 9:00p.m. EST.

Hello all you fellow video game music lovers. Tonight I have a special announcement to bring to all of you, featuring a forum-based posting game that has grown to be very popular amongst our members and takes place in our very own Forums! Introducing, for the first time publicly in the site's history: The Werewolf Game(aka TWG).
The Werewolf Game is a forum game of deception and strategy, consisting of two teams(made up by the members participating in the game). There's the Human Team, as well as the Wolf Team. The object and ultimate goal of the game is for either A) The Humans eliminate all of the Wolves. Or B) The Wolves eliminate all of the Humans. Although, it's not as easy as that, because the Humans do not know the roles of the other players. The Wolves, however, know the roles of the other wolves(thus allowing them to work together in secrecy to eliminate the humans. This is where the elements of deception and strategy begin to go to work.
The game is divided into Day and Night phases. During the Day phase, all of the players discuss and debate on who the wolves are, and submit a vote for someone who they think is a wolf to be killed off at the end of the day. When the Day ends, the host of the game tallies up the votes, and the player with the highest vote count is expelled from the game(Lynched, in TWG terms). Then when the game enters the Night phase, the Wolf team chooses one player to be killed off at the end of the phase. It is by this cycle that the game proceeds and the teams advance in eliminating the remaining players of the opposing team.
The game is heavily reliant on the elements of trust, wits, instinct, and good judgment. Through forming alliances with players and formulating strategies to pin-point who the wolves are, the game becomes even more intricate and in-depth as the investigating elevates to a level of intense debate.

There is a lot more to the game than just this, and there are Special Roles with special abilities involved as well(making the game even more intricate). If you would like to read a more in-depth overview of TWG and the concepts and rules involved, visit The Werewolf Game Official Rules thread in the TWG Forum.

So what do you think? Are you skilled enough to deceive and outsmart other fellow members? Will you catch that sly "off-beat" vibe in another player? Join TWG and try it out!

The night sky soared above the village, looking more like a fearsome dragon now than a spectral beauty. The clouds swirled faster and closer to one another around the mountain. There was a loud crack.

ETF looked up from her garden where she had been planting vegetables. The clouds began to swirl faster and faster in a spiral around the peak of the mountain. The wind began to pick up, and ETF had to grab hold of her fence and make her way back inside her home.  It began to rain furiously at a moment's notice, and thunder began to clash and lightning struck all around the mountain as the clouds began to turn dark green. ETF screamed and looked up in horror.

   Then everything fell silent.

With a flash, a beam of white light shot from the peak of Olympus and swept through the village. Everyone was thrown back and any travelers or merchants passing through the town were instantly killed. When the light finally resided back to the peak of the mountain, only the original 10 remained alive in the village.

ETF stood up, rubbing her head. She looked around and saw the other town members. Everyone seemed to be gathering in the middle of the village.

"We don't know what that was, but I think it's best if we return to our homes for the night and plea for the gods' aid and forgiveness for whatever we have done to offend and displease them."

No one could refute the idea of praise to the gods. Everyone agreed that they should all retire to their homes and praise the gods and plea for forgiveness, then tomorrow they could decide whether to approach Olympus and find out.

Everyone returned to their homes for the night, and the village became silent.

It's going to force activity, and lots of it. You're all going to be thoroughly aware of what's going on in the game at all points of the thread. The Day phases for this game will run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Night phases will run from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. This pattern will repeat. This is to force everyone to be active, and this is how the game is played in most places.

TWG XI: Rise of the Olympians

I had an interesting idea only moments ago for a game.

  Story

The year is 3341 BC, height of the old Greek Empire. The world is torn between rising empires and conquest for absolute control over all major trade routes. Greece is becoming increasingly divided, with it's city-states threatening to wage war amongst one another. Order is falling, and peace soon with it.

"The time has come for our return."

The man stepped from where he sat and walked down an aisle of people standing side by side. He wore a white cloak, golden sandals, and a sash of emerald. He stroked his luminous white beard as he paced down the aisle, complete silence fell in the grand room of his mighty throne.

"Long have we sat upon our thrones, in our gardens, on our mighty steps, watching over mortal men as they slew one another and tore apart the world that we, the gods, have brought order upon."

   The room remained silent.

"Now, our time has come. Man must be saved from himself, or all life will perish with him. There is a spreading plague of greed, and jealousy, and hatred. This destroys the heart of men."

"What would you suggest we do, Olympus?" Asked Athena. "There has always been evil in man."

"Yes, I know this. I am actually more aware than you think. Infact, I am very sure of this."

"So long as there is man, there is evil." Declared Ares.

"No, so long as there is evil, we are threatened. Man was inherently good before evil, and so it shall be that man is good when evil is gone." Responded Zeus.

"But how can this be? How can one eliminate a part of man and relish the other?" Asked Athena.

"I am Olympus, am I not?" Declared Zeus, in a contempt manner that frightened the gods standing in the aisle.

"I shall separate man from his good and evil side. I shall make the evil of man into plague that will transform and twist him, turning him into the true menace of himself. Then I shall leave it up to the good of mortal man to find and destroy this evil when it's true form is discovered. Should man succeed, then the evil in men shall be eliminated everywhere. Should he fail, well, that is something we shall deal with when the time comes." Stated Zeus.

"There is only hope as their aid." Said Athena, softly.

"Hermes, brother, send word to the 12 men of the village at the base of the mountain. They shall be our mortal gladiators of fate. I will make it so, that when the evil is gone, or the good defeated, that result shall spread throughout the world as fast as my lightning bolt, and so fast you shall go to deliver this word." Said Zeus.

Hermes nodded, and with that he dashed off from the peak of Mount Olympus to seek the men in the village.

"The time for our history to be decided has come."

I decided to make up for the lack of updates recently with this surprise Zelda-exclusive update from the arrangements of our very own The Deku Trombonist.
