Do you have the free Finale Notepad?  You should be able to open .mus files with the program that way.  If you're trying to convert to MuseScore, you can convert a .mus to a .musicxml through Finale Notepad and then open it into MuseScore (it doesn't come out super great usually though and will need some playing around with)
