How do you move up in rank?

I've seen people with little starts and different rank names along side thier user names, but what does it all mean?

Also, what does it take to move up in rank?

If anyone could answer these questions that would be great!

It's based on post count. (Big stars define actual rank, those are unaffected by posting)

Not that anyone cares about them. They're the default ones anyway.

WHY? Why did we have to lose our awesome ranks we had before! (Don't answer..)
