This what i concluded after looking at the first couple arrangements in this particular section...

Original Arrangements-----------------------------------------------------

The most interesting part was that he didn't even try to change anything from the original to make it his own.

Do you know who made the original arrangements? I doubt Commander6 would write his arrangements in another language (looks to be Chinese?) but you should still check.

Also, when were they (the mediafire ones) written/uploaded? The NSM ones say they were composed with Finale 2007, and Commander6 was using 2009 right before the site crashed, meaning it was some time before that.

Commander6 hasn't been back to the site since it came back up, so don't expect much of a defense from him.

Square Enix, these are thier piano solos. Commissioned by Nobuo himself.

The more important matter is, what would happen if they caught wind of this, would the site suffer?

That's what I would be worried about.  :(

blah54

in the very unlikely case that someone would catch wind of it, it would do likely next to nothing...

nsm is built on multiple, non-professional (sorry if someone here actually is) arrangers, so plagerism is not uncommon and is almost to be expected... and square enix and many other companies could make big cases in general for almost all sheet music sites if they REALLY wanted to, but they're not going to bother even looking for cases of it...

in short, don't worry about it... but if they are indeed ripped directly from somewhere else's work, they should be taken down/replaced eventually...
It's on a need-to-know basis that you don't need to know.

GreekGeek

The problem is this. If a company writes down the exact sheet music they used for the game (like they also did with the Wind Waker for instance), is it wrong to use it? If it's exact, should you make it less perfect to not affect any copyrights? I think the main goal of this site is to provide people with proper sheet music and if this is the way to get it, that's OK with me. And I'm certain this site will not suffer from it Brassman, don't worry.

Brassman388

Alright, I just wanted to see what you guys thought. If you all think that it isn't going to affect the site. Then that's fine with me. I Just don't like plagerizers period.

In the meantime, what are we going to do with the sheets?

The question is what do we do about it? And how many other arrangments are plagerized?

ALPRAS

Maybe we should include the plagerized arrangements in the "fixing the sheets" stuff, but instead of Fixing them, we eleminate them, and we put the names of the songs that need to be re arranged...

Brassman388

See, that's what I've been doing. But, if we do that, who do we give credit to? The original arranger or the re-arranger? All I know is that if i'm spending my time on something i could of did myself, I'd give myself the credit. But that's just me.

GreekGeek

You should give yourself credit and the original composer. Ctrl C, ctrl V isn't that much work ;)

Alright, that sounds good.  ;)

Or we can make a new arrangement made by us

The solution is simple: delete the arrangements.  Plagiarism is plagiarism.  You can't just say it's kinda ok and leave it there.
