wow... uh... a lot of the time i don't like everything a certain composer does but... if i had to choose:

J.S Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin : For baroque, classical and romantic respectively...

Koji Kondo, Motoi Sakuraba, Yuka Tsujiyoko: For video game music...

It's on a need-to-know basis that you don't need to know.

My fav composers begin with JS Bach and Handel during the Rennaisance music. Classical period Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, Romantic: Rossini, Berlioz, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Chopin, Wagner, Mahler, Strauss, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Schubert, Debussy, Bizet, Verdi, Carl Maria von Weber, Brahms, Paul Dukas and many others! Modern: Stravinsky, Ticheli, Bartok, Samuel Barber, Steve Reich, John Adams, John Williams, Gershwin, many big band composers, Shostakovich, Gustav Holst, Danny Elfman, Silvestri, Copland, Eric Whitacre, Alfred Reed, and the list keeps going! i love any composer I have learned from! in the past few years Ive been in college!
