I don't know who it's by but "River Flows in You" is pretty well known I think and it probably fits what you're thinking of

It's by Yiruma. A lot of his songs fit the description.
As for videah geym mujzik, maybe N's Farewell from Pokémon BW? I like playing that.

Braixen is a wonderful [insert gender] with beautiful [corresponding gender trait] and is just the darlingest at [stereotypical activity typically associated with said gender] you ever saw.

Only really sad if you played Majora's mask, but a beautiful song nevertheless.
and this one is just so good:
Do you mind arranging? Here's two that need good arrangements:
Don't Speak Her Name! (FE: Awakening)

Here's my own personal list of favorite video game pieces that are both really sad and really beautiful. I doubt it's going to be of much help to you, but if you or anyone else likes sad video game music you might be interested in hearing these, maybe even arranging or playing them. Using a spoiler tag because it's a pretty big list. I bolded three of my favorites; also the tracks are arranged in alphabetical order according to game title.

Fuck logic, that shit is boring, lame and does not always support my opinions.

Song of healing has incredible potential if you know and are able to play with it enough. To bring all the pain out of it. I do it frequently.

And sometimes you can just take songs that may or may not already sound sad, and sadify them. I remember making a good requiem-style piece of the Legend of Zelda theme in F# minor. It's all about the chord changes.
"Today's goal strongly involves not dying. Because nobody likes to wake up dead."

As for emotional game soundtracks I would probably recommend every sound heard in the game To The Moon. Most tracks only use piano, which should be great for you guys out here. c:
My two favorites... Especially the second one always makes me wanna cry. xD
Once Upon a Memory

Born a Stranger

EDIT: Goshdangit, I should stop trying to be fancy with forumcode knowledge from three years ago. ._. Links fixed. :D
If I'm spitting absolute ridicoulusness and nonsense again, have a potato!
And always blame Bloop for what I do! <3

FireArrow

Broken links make it very hard to cry to those songs.
