What does a double-dotted note mean? and is there any way to do it on notepad?

One dot adds 1/2 the note value, so an extra dot would add an extra 3/4 of the note value onto it... I think.

For example a double dotted crotchet would have the same length as a crotchet, quaver and semi-quaver tied together... I think.

(Excuse my use of classical terminology, I'm British. It's what we use.)

I just checked and it's basically one semi-quaver off a minim.

PianoMan

Wow... The British REALLY speak differently than Americans do... Can an American answer?

Dude

for example

A double dotted half note = Half note + Quarter note + Eighth note

If I'm not mistaken ::)

Here's something I made quickly:

Ok... With this (made in Sibelius) a double dotted quarter note (?) lasts a tiny bit longer than a single dotted one and not as long as a half note (?).

So I believe it's quarter + eighth + sixteenth... Or what I said earlier.

PianoMan

Cool. Thank you guys.

Exactly as dude said. A double dot adds another 1/4 of the initial beat to the note. So if a note gets 2 counts. (Half) a double dotted half note gets 3 and a half counts.
