The round is now closed. Before I post the results (coming soon sometime), here is a version of the bassline quiz with all the melodies overlaid:

These won't count for anything, although you're welcome to let me know which additional melodies you now recognize.

Shoot, I recognize 5 more melodies I didn't get their basslines for just by singing them from the PDF.

If I do this again, it will be a long time from now. This confused a couple people. And the real titles of themes can sometimes be kinda controversial. And, uh, well, some letters were harder to find than others. I didn't choose as good of songs, sorry. RIP BrawlBRSTMs3 X, basically none of my links work now. These are harder to make now now that that channel is done for. Anyways, I shouldn't have waited so long to post these answers.

Static's Miscellaneous Melody Quiz XXV (Round 134)
[Folder of Stuff]

This time around, the theme is "The Best & The Worst". It should be self-explanatory: half the songs are from widely-liked games in their respective genre, and the other half are from widely-disliked games in their respective genre.

For this round, I will be providing one hint per melody. I'll answer just about anything except for specific game series and game.

Dekkadeci

This is kinda unannounced, I know, but here's my 12th Guess-The-Song Quiz:
[PDF] | [MIDI] | [MUS] | [MSCZ]

The MUS is readable in Finale, including Finale Notepad. The MSCZ is readable in Musescore. All other files are based on the original MSCZ, not the MUS--this explains why the PDF doesn't look like the MUS.
The MUS may display and/or play back bugged. The MSCZ, MIDI, and PDF shouldn't.

This quiz shouldn't be too difficult, but don't feel too bad if you only get one or two! PM away!

I'll be accepting answers for this quiz as PMs for at least a month and up to 2 months. I don't have any Discord accounts, though, so I can't be reached through Discord. Please PM me answers on the NinSheetMusic forums instead!

Some guidelines for answering, how the melodies are transcribed, and what counts as a correct answer--oh yeah, and some hints right off the bat:
  • You may submit YouTube links/videos instead of game name-song name/best known use pairs.
  • All tempos are approximate.
  • Like last time, I will mark unambiguous songs with the right melody in the right key as correct. If your guess has the right melody in the wrong key, I will mark it as incorrect but PM back that you were close. You can freely guess again until I post the answers.
  • I may not have gotten octave voicings correct in this quiz. If you think you've got the right song but it's off by an octave or two in parts, just guess that song anyway.
  • I may not have gotten articulations correct in this quiz.
  • As before, I PM hints! If you can't figure out the song at all, but you guess the series the melody is from and/or give a YouTube link to a similar-sounding piece, I'll PM back about whether you're on the right track.
  • The more obscure the song, the more generous the hints get.
  • I skipped transcribing all the ornamentation in #10.
  • None of the songs share a series.
  • Sadly, the following series do not appear in this quiz: Pokemon, Zelda, Smash Bros. (original to), Shovel Knight
  • At least one of the songs does appear as-is in a Smash Bros. game, though.

#2122
It's been a month already, and I haven't received any new guesses in a long while, so here are the answers to my latest quiz:

#1
"Sogno di Volare", from Civilization VI, used as the main theme
Timestamp: 0:18

This is a rare video game theme that I got hooked on by listening to transcriptions of it first. Heck, I can even tank the lyrics! ...Although I think Leonardo da Vinci is rolling in his grave because of how hard the good people at Civilization VI appropriated his writings for this song's lyrics.

#2
"Thwomp Desert", from Mario Kart Wii, used as a battle stage theme
Timestamp: 0:15

Yeah, I mainly took this excerpt from FireArrow's transcription of this theme. I personally think these measures are in 6/8 time instead of 12/8 time, but I didn't really want to have to nail the ornaments in the melody by ear.

This theme is quite fun to listen to, IMO, partially because of the way it screws with the meter (I'm convinced that the beginning measures are in 3/4 time).

#3
"Battlefield 1942 Theme"/"Battlefield 1942 Title Theme", from Battlefield 1942, used as the title theme
Timestamp: 0:33

I like this theme. I've heard it's iconic. I thought at least one of you would be familiar with this theme from a computer game. Seems like I was wrong. ...Maybe I would have had better luck if I had transcribed the section at 0:00 instead?

#4
"La Follia d'Amore", from Kirby Star Allies, used as Hyness's Phase 2 boss theme
Timestamp: 0:12

Those of you who have taken my previous Guess-That-Song Quizzes know I like throwing in Kirby themes a lot, and I made sure I stuck to just one Kirby theme this round. This is from the latest Kirby game, and it's quite possibly the most famous theme in the entire game (yes, even after all the DLC was released). I think I also transcribed the most famous motif for this quiz, too.

On this quip I received among the guesses:
Quote from: mastersuperfan on July 19, 2019, 11:37:32 PMI think I've heard #4 before... it sounds like some sort of danger/panic theme from an RPG, perhaps?
Well, the boss definitely looks like he's panicking all fight.

#5
"Thrash Machine", from Deltarune, used as background music
Timestamp: 0:00

I guess we do know our Deltarune more than we know the majority of other new video games. This is a fairly strong remix of a recurring theme in this game, and someone did recognize it.

#6
"You Will Recall Our Names", from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, used as a battle theme
Timestamp: 0:43

Gosh, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 battle music is fun overall (at least before you hit the slower orchestral boss themes with choirs). This is one of my favourites, and even me kinda chickening out and transcribing an excerpt that was easier to transcribe instead of a more iconic passage didn't prevent this from being guessed correctly.

#7
"Focus", from Super Hexagon, used as a level theme
Timestamp: 0:00

...OK, so it wasn't composed for Super Hexagon, but if you know this song, it's probably from this game.

Fittingly for its origin as electronic music, it's quite minimalistic compared to the other themes in this quiz.

#8
"Battle: The Darkest Lord"/"Battle (Ultra Demon Lord)", from Miitopia, used as the Phase 1 final boss theme
Timestamp: 0:13

I've heard this theme is absurdly popular and highly requested for being from a video game whose concept elicits laughs. It even made its way into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate unscathed!

...Alright, I admit it, I like the motif I transcribed, and that's why it's in this quiz.

#9
"X vs. Zero", from Mega Man X5, used as the boss theme when X and Zero fight each other
Timestamp: 0:47

Haha, this part sounds an awful lot like the Game of Thrones theme.

...Here I go, thinking this is one of the most famous Mega Man themes we haven't previously covered in a Guess-That-Song Quiz, and nobody gets it. Admittedly, maybe all the biggest Mega Man music fans have moved on to the NinSheetMusic Discord instead...or maybe this theme is just absurdly popular among metal remixers?

This theme is in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate unchanged, though, so I don't think it's just the metal remixers who like this a lot...

#10
"Jelly Level", from Candy Crush Saga, used as a stage theme
Timestamp: 0:00

Yeah, I ditched all the ornamentation in my transcription.

I happened to transcribe the ENTIRE theme for this quiz. This is the first time I've ever done this for a Guess-That-Song Quiz. Admittedly, I suspected that Candy Crush Saga was one of those video games that everyone has played but nobody has ever played with the sound on, and you all proved me one step closer to being correct.

...Yup, the sub-theme of this quiz was music from computer games and mobile games, and I tried to make sure that either the song or the game was inordinately famous before putting it in this quiz.

#2125
Since I've only received a single guess, I've decided to post a handful of hints:

-#1 is the only one you can hear on a nintendo system.
-My bad, but #4 is actually in 12/8.
-Two of them are from two different anime from the same studio and director, who's known for its somewhat unique art style.
-One of them is from a rather violent concert band piece, of which I took the quitest part (on purpose).
-One of them is from a game OST which mainly is ambient music. I took one of the few melodies there were.
-From what I've been told, one of them has already been used before. It's the only one that has been guessed up to now. It's also the one and only bassline in this quiz.

Trasdegi

... Okay, one week later, I still only have one contestant, so I decided to do another version:

[Dropbox Folder]

In this folder, you'll find the same quiz, but the melodies are now put in a context: a second instrument's line, a bassline, chords, a longer section... It should make things easier.
