It is the Sengoku period, late 15th century.  The NinShito Mushiki clan is being attacked by rival clans and mercenary Ninja's.  Several head officials have been assassinated in the night at the NinShito palace the past few days, and it is speculated that several Shinobi (Ninja's) have infiltrated the area.  Several people have claimed that they have seen a Shinobi in the city the past few days.  They have been said to be hidden as priests, monks, and ronin.  An elite group of Seven Samurai have been assigned to find these murders and end them.  They have a contact in the city who is tracking the Ninja's (Seer).  During the night, a bodyguard can be assigned to any of the samurai or the spy, to protect them from any attacker.
