Title: Stupid Video Game Moments
Post by: Cyndaquazy on April 12, 2009, 01:11:22 PM
On this topic, one can post any stupid things you have done concerning video games.

For me, the stupidest thing I've done is restart my Pokémon Pearl without trading over all my Level 100 Pokémon to my Diamond. Most of those Level 100's are ones I've had since the beginning of my fandom and had emotional bonds with. I could provide you with a list, but it would hurt too much.

Now I'm gonna have to start over with the task. (I still kick myself in the a** for doing that) >:(

Also in Pokémon Pearl, I played lots one evening. Trained for taking the seventh gym, taking the seventh gym, going through all the faff in the Galactic building, climbing Mt. Coronet, and levelling lots in the progress. Finally, the battle against Palkia. It was my Garchomp against the Space-ruling kickass dragon from another dimension, and I didn't want to waste any master balls (actually, it's as easy to capture Palkia as it is to capture Chatot). So I figured it out that it would be smart to weaken it a bit first. A Dragon Claw would suffice...

Critical hit

Palkia fainted

Game turned off (I wanted Palkia after all)

Last save point: Four hours earlier, a total of 21 levels earlier in the progress, and one gym, a warehouse and the most irritating mountain in Pokémon history to beat again.

I went swearing to bed that evening.

Huh... what did I do...

Oops another Pokémon one!
Getting an illegal copy of Pokémon Emerald, and if you tried to connect it to Diamond (or even played on diamond) it erased your Emerald save file.

I decided to ignore this and removed the diamond card from my DS and continued to play on Emerald. I got relatively far (5th or 6th gym, I think) and then was about to go online on diamond with a friend- and guess what, I forgot to remove the emerald game pak. It erased all the data- hours and hours worth.

Dammit.

EDIT: Oh and the first time I played on any pokémon game and used my master ball to catch a pikachu, when I had no idea you only get one master ball.

Sonic Unleashed and Sonic and the Black Knight are already in the bargin bins.

Here's one: I was playing Dark Cloud 2, an action RPG game for the PS2, and after about 55 hours of gameplay I had finally made to what I thought at the time was the last dungeon, Moon Flower Palace. I had gotten about half way through it(and the all the dungeons in this game besides the first and second range from about 10 to 20 times bigger than LoZ dungeons.) and I saved my game -of coarse. My friend came over to try out the game and asked if he could save it, and I said sure. He saved it to the first slot. And 55 hours went right down the toilet.

I have one that's similar to Cyndaquazy's story.

Phantasy Star Online is an RPG game released for the GC and XBOX. A simple hack-slash game where you have to level up and you get better weapons on the way (basis of the whole game). You get to reach a max level of 200, similar to the max level 100 in pokemon games. I managed to get my first character up to Lv. 145 and I found a new weapon. Then I go back to play it to try the new weapon the next day and a horrible thing happened.

The game informed me that my memory card became corrupt.

Besides loosing some 120+ hours of game play on that character, I lost all of my other characters AND all of my data for my GC games.

Leaving my GBA on while I went to the restroom...my little sister came in and started pushing buttons...by the time I came back, all three of my games were gone...:(
But that wasn't really my most stupid moment, that would be when I had MM Battle Network 3, had 298/300 chips, and I got a little bored with the game, so I started a new one, was rocking real hard for about an hour, and I got so into it, I saved....blast it, that was a lot of lost hours on that old game, and I have never gotten nearly 298 since then.

i would have to say my worst moment would be in COD: WaW. I was playing HC war on Outskirts and i had just got the PTRS (which isn't a sniper rifle in real life) and i saw an enemy running into the church (it was the nuetral flag on war) and so i sniped him and my bullet killed him and went through his body and hit a friendly bouncing betty and it blew up and kill ALL my teamates at the flag and i got booted.. =P. I've had a lot of wierd moments in all the Call of Duty games i own =P

I was playing megaman 7(my personal favorite out of the 8 that I have) and I was on Freeze Man and all that it would take to beat him were three or for more hits. Then what happens? He jumps on top of me and I lose my last life. Most anooying boss ever in my opinion even though I managed to beat him the third time I tried the level.

I found the ending of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess rather stupid. And while being overenthusiastic that I managed to get a copy of the special edition of Shadow of the Colossus the game crashed on the title screen - and that remains stupid.

My ultimate stupid game moment was with Gran Turismo 3. I went to Game Stop and bought a copy of GT3. Went home and the game wouldn't start up. I restarted my PS2 five or six times but the game wouldn't start. So I took it back and got another copy. The exact same thing happened. So I went back to Gamestop and got another copy for one last try. And once again, it did not work. Then I discovered it was my PS2 that wasn't working. S I didn't play it for about half a year since I thought it was broken, but one day I got a sudden craving for Guitar Hero. So while getting the game out I found a cd reader cleaning disk and I thought to myself, well lets give it a shot. After it was done, my PS2 magically worked agian and I thought to myself, you have got to be fucking kidding me.

OMG I remember the most hilarious moment and it's incredibly stupid too lol!
In Ocarina of Time (I had a friend over who was explaining stuff to me while I was playing it) and I was at Volvagia and I was just curious and I ask him in the most perfectly inocent and most idiotic manner (picture Napolean Dynamite and Miss america speach diolouge in one perfect saying one where when I uttered(sp? but who cares as long as you get the gist) it made you LMAO ROFL LOL all in one smooth motion and just couldn't let it go even after 3 years) and here is what I utterd. "Does Din's Fire work on Volvagia?"(now pause. Volvagia is a DRAGON he breathes FIRE!..I'll let you sink that in...) and so know when me or my friend play OoT we just can't stop laughing lol.

my stupidest video game moment... when i was 10, my friend brought his N64 gameshark over, and we used it on goldeneye. His gameshark screwed up and erased everything. i had to beat the entire game over again. (not really tough, but tedious)

also, my brother played my donkey kong 64 game, when he was like 6, and he thought that the orange at the title screen said easy game, when it actually said erase game. He erased my 160+ golden bannas and 150+ hours of gameplay. but i did get it back eventually, so i guess all's well that ends well.

I was playing Twilight Princess, and I got killed by the stupid baboon with the boomerang. I thought that I had autosaved some time near that point (not even sure now if there is one...?) and I died, got mad, and left to eat food or something, and I came back, and I was waaaay earlier in the game, and considering how bad I am at Zelda games, I gave up and sold it.

This one isn't stupid, just really funny. I was playing SSBB with one of my friends on the Mario Kart stage. We tied and it went into sudden death. The karts came and I was hit by a car and was sent flying. A split second after, my friend was hit and he died a millisecond before I did. LOL

Now that you mention SSBB, Ive had my fair share. So my friend is a Mario and he was spamming the cape attack, so a bonsly comes out of a pokeball, I throw it up, and MY FRIEND CAPES bonsly, apparently, nothing happens, but I stay in the same spot and freaking bonsly kills me, apparently, bonsly became his and kicked my butt.

Another one was when I was an Ike and my friend was a Mr.G&W, he sends me flying, and I charge the side b attack (that horixontal attack thing) and just as im about to hit him (and recover) he sides b with a FREAKING 9 and...GAME!

I had this really stupid Spyro game for my GBA, and for really no reason I decided to ruin it by throwing it at a few walls/cousins. I took it outside and tried to throw it at my cousin, and it landed in the bushes. I couldn't find it, and ended up returning home without it. I went back to their house after a year had passed, and my cousin David gave me the game (which he had found while doing yardwork the week before) so I put it in my Game Boy and it still worked

Have you had a game washed and dried in some clothing. I have. It sucks cuz it always happens to pokemon games that have an internal clock and it messes everything up.

It's actually a small battery that messes up.  G/S/C games are hard to find with functional batteries, and even my ruby version had run out of battery life.  Of course, this problem is eliminated with the DS games.

Dear Lord, don't make us take you back to chatroom court...again :P

Lets see, not so much in the Video Game, but i went to Myrtle Beach once upon a time, and took my Wii (extended trips with only sunbathing to do for hours on end makes Gooch-ie a dull boy). Along with that, i brought a few multiplayer games such as Mario Party (useless and no one wanted to play them), Brawl, Mario Kart Wii. Well, the week comes to a close, and we pack up. Turns out i no longer have enough room for my Wii and its games, so, i divvy Mario Kart to my sister's back-pack. We get home, i collect my favorite game (Mario Kart) and proceed to pull it out of the case...to find the disc is completely warped. Her Jumbo-Sized doll's head was pushing into the case...and made the disc bend...for 9 hours. I hold a memorial for it every year. Currently, im not entirely committed to wanting to buy the game again...for 50 bucks :P

^Oh well. If you've got the right items (Unless you run a Choice Specs set, I assume you're EV-ing HP or Defense or Speed, so Power Weight/Belt/Anklet, respectively), and train at the right places, you can EV quite quickly. If you have Pokérus as well, EVs come like leaves on a windy autumn day.

But getting that stupid Pokérus... I've played my games for about 1000 hours in total, and never seen it.

On that Pearl game at the top of this topic, I had Pokérus, too.  :'(
As far as EV training goes, I just use the vitamins (Iron, Protein, etc.)

I actually have all (or close to all) of the Mario Kart games, so i still play Double Dash on occasion (still a high spot of my favorite games). On the note of Mario Kart 64, i love the idea of the Virtual Console and such, but i dont like having to "rebuy" my old N64 games. Personally, i would invest if Nintendo were to somehow pop up with a N64 Hi-Def cable :)

Another Stupid moment (actually in-game this time). Anyone remember getting an Eon Ticket for Ruby/Saphire/Emrald? I got one and used it on my Ruby version (thus unlocking Latias in-game). I went to that little island, had an awful time catching it, spent a good few days just playing through a few battles a day trying to catch it. In the end, i became frustrated and used my master ball. Content that i had caught it, I save and leave the island. Upon walking around, i chance upon Latios (first time) and realized i used my master ball on Latias...the one that doesn't flee after one turn... I never got to catch Latios :(

You must be an expert, so what do you think about Mario Kart Wii then?

I have owned all of them except the original SNES, and I can say that the Wii version is awful and a waste of time.  The extra racers just make it incredibly annoying, the AI item usage is completely broken, and online play is STILL laggy.

I think that online play will be slow as long as the Internet is still accessed with the cables of today.

Nope.  Go play a 360 game online or a PC game on a dedicated server.

If you ask me, Mario Kart Wii's online play is one of the best for the Wii. Obviously that doesn't mean much, but compared to say, Brawl (*shudder*), it's great.

My input might be biased (since the Mario Kart genre IS one of my favorites), but i enjoyed many aspects of Mario Kart Wii (enough that made it worth buying, to me). Sure, there may be a few flaws here or there, but the sensor controls were fluid enough that I DID feel like i was controlling the car, albeit the controlls were too tricky to endeavor after on certain vehicles (especially the bikes). I enjoyed the levels and many aspects of the game, but I still believe that Mario Kart Wii is NOT the top of the Kart list.
But, if it is a "buy" or "no buy" situation, i would buy it just to experience it, because it is a newer take on Mario Kart and it isn't a bad game at any rate. :) (btw: i STILL don't understand how bikes factor into a go-kart game) :P
