This thread will no longer be updated. Not that any of you will care

You arrange? D:

*looks at the .mus*

Seems pretty painstaking putting in every natural you did on the left hand. Nice work. I've never actually heard the original song so I can't tell you if it's spot on or not, but it looks and sounds like a clean sheet. Nice work.

(Also: I hope you know that you don't submit sheets this way anymore, see the sticky that Nintendude posts every update to submit)

Oh well disregard that I suck cocks. Shows you how much I pay attention to detail. And whatever, I copy paste rhythms and move the notes sometimes, but that's pretty much it.

Well, they are fine for submission sound wise. You need to format them correctly according to these guidelines in order for them to be accepted to the site.
http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=481.0
They sound very accurate and look fine as far as the notes go. Once you fit those submission guidelines, they'll be ready to be submitted!

The key signature may be wrong in Battle Tower. Me thinks it's in F major (one flat) with several measure deviations (slight key changes) from the key. If you could swap it to that, it would clean up the piece all together (change the Fb to E naturals and etc).

EDIT: After changing it myself and looking at the piece more, it is definitely in the key of F major.

Yeahhh sorry. I was talking about the Pokemon ones.
Also, this would help Ruins of Alph look and be more playable. At the beginning of the piece, you use E natural in the bassline. Use it also in the treble line. And again at the end, those last 4 bars.
When the key changes, I'm pretty sure it changes to D major. The treble line would smooth out a ton, and though the bass line will have that one awkward natural note (the f# being a f natural), it would more resemble the beginning of the piece.
I really like listen to your arrangements. Keep on making them. Just pointing out stuff that would make them look better and be more easier to play.

This will all be from memory.
At the beginning of the piece, you use in the first measure something like Ab, C, E natural in the bottom staff (probably a treble clef). At the last measure, you use Ab, C, Fb. They're the same thing, but look different. Choosing one and sticking with it will help the piece overall.

And thanks. The key change should help a lot too.

With surfing, you need to slow the tempo down to 100 and fix some of those C flats and make them B naturals. In the cases where theyre situated, it'd just be easier to change them.

That's it from my end!

5-well we cant leave notes out if we just dont like them  :-\
10-12-that part is supposedhave somewhat of a heavy feeling
14-only the first 8 measures of that part are slured, the rest of the phrase is staccato
25-its supposed to be an F#. thats the correct pitch
36-triplets are more accurate to the original

heres the one i arrangened: TBN Quartet! : D (http://www.mediafire.com/?tj93aipv55ync3j)

5-wat? thats the kewlest part! 1-TA-TE-TA-4! u should leave it in : D
25-i see, err.. hear what u mean, try making the chords: CG-BF#-AE  i think that might solve the problem
36-yes ur right, i hear it-notate it like this tho: dotted 8th-16th tied to an 8th-8th   rather than  dotted 8th-dotted-8th-8th (it makes it easier to read)

Dang, big update there. They sound good. However, you need to mention that Alleycat Blues is swung. I'm also kinda curious as to how you get that different writing style on finale with some of those songs, like in the Darkwing Duck stages. Changing the appearance like that really adds a neat aesthetic to the sheet.

Your Ashley's Theme arrangement sounds fine, but I think you left off a few instrumental measures near the end. And maybe in the parts where you have lyrics and instruments written out, you could separate the lyrical part in a different voice to make it clearer which is which.

Just printed out your Ashley's theme arrangement and played through it on piano. Sounds fine, but the right and left hands overlap on measures 19 - 22. If you could just erase the bottom note of the chords in the right hand in that part (since they're being played by the left hand) it'd be great.

Oh, sorry. Maybe I just was listening to a different version, or got a part mixed up. And about the lyric notation, I just meant to put the top note of the chord in a separate voice. But it's not that big of a deal.

Okay! Aqua/Magma battle: It's a great and accurate arrangement, it's going to take a ridiculous amount of practice for anyone to be able to play it but that's the nature of the song, I suppose (especially the intro...).

Bowser Battle: Also good, I have no idea but is the note in the right hand of measure 23 supposed to be a Gb?

I need opinions on this one.

It no doubt is an excellent and accurate arrangement, again very hard, but at least it's a good arrangement. I can't find anything wrong with it, nor would I deem it "unplayable." :) Good job but this tune used to annoy me in game. :P

Looks like almost every key on the piano is used here. At least, you're close to the lower boundaries.

I like your arrangement of the Cycling theme from RSE. Not my personal favorite theme, but the arrangement is nice.
In measure 3, the chromatic passing motion in the bass is ascending, so that should be a D# instead of an Eb. Same sort of thing in measure 10, 11, and 15, but the motion is descending, so the chromatically altered run should contain flats. Measure 27 is similar to the bass in measure 5 with a chromatic lower neighbor. In this case, the Ab should be respelled G#.
I personally would respell the Bb in the bass in measure 24 to A#, as the B comes after it and appears to move towards that B. Then for consistency respell the Bb in measure 25 as A#.
One last thing. The mp in measure 10 for the treble clef should go between the staves.
I hope I'm not sounding mean or disgusted or anything. I liked the piece, but feel these changes would be easier for the player. Hoped I explained the reasons well enough to be understood. Let me know if I came off as a bastard.

I agree they function as an incomplete neighbor and resolve to the lower note. Notating measure 10, 11, and 15 with a flat shows that the note falls and resolves to the desired pitch.
I saw that Bb as well. Not really sure why that's there. But looking again, F#, A#, and C# (notes in measure 24 and 25) spell a major triad and that's definitely the desired effect. That kinda makes the A#/Bb in measure 21 a harmonic anticipation, though that chord doesn't appear until measure 24.

I noticed that the octave at the end of Boss 1 has a lime green color, any reason in special?

Also, great idea with the Primo and Secondo from Amber Valley! I might send it to my teacher, to see if we can actually play it...  ::)

Very nice arrangement. Sounds accurate.
However, again the chromatic spellings sometimes can be an issue. The first one isn't so bad, but in measure 4, if you spelled the second E natural Fb, the idea of the chromatic line moving forward would be easily established and the thought of carrying over the natural from the beginning of the measure does not even have to be thought of. In measure 14, I'd respell the grace note as D# and the Gb in the bass as F#. The motion of D# to E is repeated in measure 15 in the lower treble voice. The F# recalls from the F# before in measures 9-12. Check measures 26 and 27 and wherever else these spellings occurs.
This next point has to do with contiguity in parallel voice moving. If two voices start in a 3rd apart, and keep this interval, this should be reflected in the chromatic spellings as well. In measure 16, that D# should be spelled Eb OR the G spelled as Fx. This shows the parallel motion device is still being deployed. The same thing occurs in measure 21 and 24.
In measure 45, you need to show consistency for that line every time it is used, however transposed it may be. Since you've been going up a 2nd, down a 2nd, down a 2nd, and up a 2nd for each line before, do the same here. Therefore, respell the 2nd 16th note as Cb and Eb. Repeat every time this occurs.
In measure 30, spell the Db as C#. Though it is a descending line, it is not a descending chromatic line. Here, we're using the harmonic spelling. The 4 eighth notes in the bass on beats 3 and 4 outline an A major triad, A C# E. Therefore, the C# should be spelled accordingly.
This has to do with the able to read the piece in music theory. To show that measures 9-12 are just a simple transposition, it would be better to spell the key in C minor. The bass line would resemble the previous bass line better than what you have now. This also goes along with the F# coming up in measure 14. In measure 42, it would make more sense to think of the G# as an Ab because the way the Ab occurs in the voice above, and the fact that it does occur in the voice above.
If I'm just rambling on or I'm not clear, feel free to shoot me a message. It's important to understand why these things should be the way they are so that you can correct them yourself in the future.

Pokemon Pinball is awesome. Great tunes.
The grace notes should be treated as neighbors, so going from one note to another. For example, the grace note in measure 4 should be a D#.
The key does seem to briefly modulate to D minor at times, so using C# instead of Db in measure 18 makes sense. In measure 20, spelling all the chromatically altered pitches as sharps really helps to show the flow of the music, as well as the harmony.

Title: Re: Shadoninja's Arrangements (New: Pokemon Pinball, Darkwing Duck)
Post by: pumpy_heart on November 28, 2011, 07:11:53 AM
You hide the motif inserted by the composer if you spell them as flats going to naturals as well. For example, if you look at measure 3 and 5, you very clearly see an idea of how the grace note is being treated there. This is not matched by measure 4, which uses a grace note in a similar way, resolving up to the pitch the composer desired.
It's awkward to read and makes very little musical sense to spell it that way. The grace note always resolves up throughout the piece so your arrangement should make that idea clear in every possible way.

Instead of using a second layer, you should just use the cross-staff tool for those high B flats in Wise Owl Forest (in which case I'd recommend having the tie over the note). I'm not entirely sure if this is "correct" though, so you may wish to wait for Deku's response.

Is that so? I always figured cross-staff was just an alternative for 8va in heavily arpeggiated parts in the left hand.
Title: Re: Shadoninja's Arrangements (New: Mario Kart 7 , Dark Cloud)
Post by: The Deku Trombonist on December 27, 2011, 04:27:21 PM
Cross staffing is generally used in place of ledger lines, a clef change or 8va line. In this case, the arpeggio would continue to be played by the left hand unless indicated otherwise.

If you really want to have the right hand play the Bb/C then I'd use the cross staff tool but put a little "r.h." above the note you want played in the right hand.

After listening to The Palace Oboe, sounds really accurate. Good job!
The octave doublings sound too strong against the one lined melody, but that's sort of a preference thing.
You said you might've gotten some enharmonic things wrong. You did well up until measure 11. The second chord should be an F minor chord, so F-Ab-C. This is a progression of sorts, and the best way to write each chord is just to spell it triadically as possible. The progression more or less alternates between 7th chords and a triad, so in measure 14, the second chord should be a triad, F#-A-C.
The second half of measure 21 should use flats, as these borrow notes from the parallel minor (C minor; Bb-Eb-Ab).
In measure 31, you should use an E# in the melody because the E# shows motion to the root of the chord, F#. Having F and F# in the same measure does not make as much musical sense in tonal music as E# and F#.
I'd use all sharps through measure 33-36. The motif is clearly seen in your rendition, but using sharps allow for clearer chordal analyzation. Db makes much less sense against an A than a C# does.
The rest of the piece works just fine. Great job on this difficult piece!

I just listened to Pub Polka. Nice little piece.
The piece is in G major. When the F natural is used, it's temporary for that measure. It's an applied chord in one measure and supports a 9th chord another. Still in the key of G though. Happens again later in the piece, but still in G.
In measure 33, use E# when it's a lower neighbor of F#, instead of F natural.
Love the clapping bit haha.

No. Although I had trouble reading the measures in the blue. I don't understand how you know to trill throughout the whole measure by what's written.

You'll have to wait though, the OST is huge. Might be awhile 'till I finish.

Yah. Sounds like the Cursed Overworld Theme when you're sailing to Jabu Jabu.

Measures 48-63 have a similar bass to measures 40-44. It's just fainter. Idk if you can add that in.

Hahahaha! Whoops! XD

Ah, I don't think there's much to improve! Very accurate, playable, fun! Maybe an 8vb down in the bass when it gets really low... Other than that, I can't think of anything! :D

For Battle! Cipher Admin, can you put 8vbs on Measures 21-24 L.H.? Imo it's obnoxious to count down ledger lines and 8vbs do not take away from the tidiness of the sheet.

I disagree. Two reasons:
1.) It's only 3 ledger lines down. I've seen plenty of classical music that far exceeds that.
2.) It's the same note over and over again. If this were a moving bass line, then yes, I'd probably say it needs 8vb, but this is merely a G drone.

Btw, excellent arrangement Shado.

"Battle! Cipher Admin"

Measure 19 - the Bb needs to be an A natural and the G natural needs to be an F natural (all speaking of the 8va notes)
Measures 37 and 39 - the F (and F 8vas) need to be either Fb or E natural

Otherwise, very nice

Excellent work, and an admirable feat--I was only able to write out the first 16 measures or so (8 measures in 12/8) before I got frustrated with the piece.

A couple notes (pun note intended):
In the section starting in measure 73, the left hand is incredibly difficult. I have no idea at that tempo how to play that, and I don't suppose there would be an easier way to notate it? :/ I really don't think so, but it is very hard in that section.

Really, that's the only thing. Great job.

Nice. We need more bravely default arrangements.
I think the songs might be called "Land of Civil War" and "The Land of Beautiful Flowers"
I was thinking of doing land of civil war, but I still don't have finale. Just watch out for the 15/8 section.

The official title of the latter in the localized OST is "Land of Radiant Flowers." "Land of Civil War" fits by convention, so I agree with that title.

I mean, Capcom's general practice is to have a new composer for each entry in any given series, so it's kind of crazy that Iwadare has worked on as many games as he has. Besides, this composer, Yasamasu Kitagawa, is the same composer that wrote all of the Phoenix Wright music for Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which had a soundtrack better than Dual Destinies imo.

After listening to the original I can say the ocarina gives it an overall more mournful feel, but that's not a bad thing

You should! Ocarina is inexpensive and easy to play. It only took me like a week and a half to get used to it.

wall of text nobody wants to read not even me
im so proud of you son i really want to thank you for all that you've done it makes me sad that either you've been away or that i've been away or that we've both been away but you've done so much and i think a lot of us really appreciate what you have done and no other shado or ninja could really ever replace you, this might sound like a run on but really it's just a bunch of sentences typed together without periods, my head hurts and i just ran two miles and im failing multiple classes and i had an opportunity to make up for some of them but i didnt open up my email until today and over 12 quizzes that i didnt do before my teacher opened them up and said i had until last friday to do them, i might fail but you, you shadoninja are an inspiration, you do so much and i would thank you more often but unfortunately i am not infallible, and neither are many of us here on this site, so we did not properly thank you for the hard work you have done, but i do think i speak for many of us when i say we appreciate not only all that you have done for us but what you have done while you were away, this might sound mocking but i do mean it sincerely, my head still hurts for running two miles, but from now on there will be no more nonzero (https://www.reddit.com/r/getdisciplined/comments/1q96b5/i_just_dont_care_about_myself/cdah4af) days, i have a vague idea of what that means but really i still havent finished reading that post, today i have a mentor meeting after my 9 oclock class and all students have to meet with their mentor in order to be able to sign up for classes next semester, but it's kind of stupid that i need to sign up for my classes before i even know what i am going to pass this semester, i think what im trying to say is i really like your arrangements and all of the hard work you've put into them, even if some of them are for the ocarina and i cant play the ocarina, mostly because im too lazy to learn, i hardly even play the piano anymore except i play lost woods over and over and over again, it's really stupid, but you're not stupid and if only we could all be not stupid then maybe we would have shown our appreciation more and you would have never left, i think i was already away from nsm when you left but i visit from time to time and i should have talked to you more often, i should have talked to everyone more often because there are so many people that i care about and i end up not talking to any of them, and then one day i decide im going to work super hard to stay friends with this one person and then i guess it became a date, and then that weekend was over and i knew there wasnt going to be any more dating but i was so determined to stay friends with them that i also became super scared that i wasnt going to be friends with them any more, i was afraid it was going to turn out like the last person i dated, where one day they just stopped talking to me, so i messaged them hey pls dont stop messaging me i might die, and then i added maybe i wont actually die but yeah, and then they said ok and then i didnt really get any more messages from them, so i messaged them every day and then every few days and then i gave them two weeks of space but it wasnt working, it wasnt working, and im so sorry, i dont know what i did, i am so sorry that i couldnt be a better friend to at least that one person, and now im doing so bad in school and i had a chance to make up for it and then i fucking blew it, i dont even know what the hell happened monday through thursday when i was supposed to be catching up, maybe it was part fire emblem, part hanging out with my brother who came home from the other side of the world after two years, maybe i can talk to my teacher and they'll let me make up for the work i missed but i have more than one teacher, i have at least four teachers and that's over two months of quizzes and homework to catch up on for four different classes, i dont have any fucking idea how i got so behind, but i know im filled with regrets and i can still be emotionally okay because i am the embodiment of out of sight, out of mind, except when it comes to that failed friendship, where i thought of them literally every single day, and i wondered every day what might have went wrong, what did i do, what /can/ i do to fix it, and i thought that, i felt that i HAD to not give up no matter what, so i haven't given up on them, and i'm waiting for their response even now, and since they won't respond to me i tried a mutual acquaintance who is another friend that i havent talked to recently, and shadoninja is another friend i havent talked to recently, but they are definitely worth my time and a lot of people's times and i once learned an arrangement of shadoninja (swapnote) and i practiced it over and over again but i never recorded it ever and one day i found a second page to that arrangement lying around which means i only learned half the song, then one day i opened tinychat just to see what was going on and shadoninja was there and i asked which arrangement of theirs i should play and it was a cool song but my head still hurts a little and i dont really remember it at the moment, i once heard that hang overs after drinking are just due to dehydration, anyway i learned that song shadoninja sent to me but my performance was super mediocre and i just looked it up the name of it was shopping in wakeport, im sorry that i didnt put more dynamics/effort into it but i felt if i didnt upload something then it would never ever get uploaded just like all my previous projects that i talked about with you (let's not even mention rhythm heaven,) anyway now i have a stomach ache but im sure ill feel better before i have to wake up someone for school; ive been going to college for a couple years now, still only have my permit, which means i can drive but only when there is somebody in the passenger seat, i carpool with my other brother (the one not visiting from the other side of the world,) because we go to the same college now but he's not even home, he was helping his girlfriend move apartments, im probably just going to wake my mom up, im going to fail and im concerned right now but later when im feeling especially stressed ill use that super power of mine where i can just ignore stress and not think about my problems, which will then lead to me not dealing with my problems, which is probably how i ended up in this mess in the first place. sorry, i think i got off on a tangent here, but it's 6:50 am now, and i think i really appreciate all the hard work you've done. i probably already said that. i think you could make a portfolio of all the work you've done and probably just use it as a resumé of some sort. i mean, i guess you have your website and that's literally the portfolio. im glad you put all of your work onto this forum, too, even though you didn't have to. im sorry you felt the the need to remove some of your hard work from this web site, and im sorry i mixed in my praise of you with my own problems, that's probably rude of me but at this point it would be weird for this post to be in the rant thread rather than your arrangement topic. my avatar rn does not accurately express my feelings atm, tl;dr shadoninja rocks

haven't given up on them, and i'm waiting for their response even now, and since they won't respond to me i tried a mutual acquaintance who is another friend that i havent talked to recently, and shadoninja is another friend i havent talked to recently, but they are definitely worth my time and a lot of people's times and i once learned an arrangement of shadoninja (swapnote) and i practiced it over and over again but i never recorded it ever and one day i found a second page to that arrangement lying around which means i only learned half the song, then one day i opened tinychat just to see what was going on and shadoninja was there and i asked which arrangement of theirs i should play and it was a cool song but my head still hurts a little and i dont really remember it at the moment, i once heard that hang overs after drinking are just due to dehydration, anyway i learned that song shadoninja sent to me but my performance was super mediocre and i just looked it up the name of it was shopping in wakeport, im sorry that i didnt put more dynamics/effort into it but i felt if i didnt upload something then it would never ever get uploaded just like all my previous projects that i talked about with you (let's not even mention rhythm heaven,) anyway now i have a stomach ache but im sure ill feel better before i have to wake up someone for school; ive been going to college for a couple years now, still only have my permit, which means i can drive but only when there is somebody in the passenger seat, i carpool with my other brother (the one not visiting from the other side of the world,) because we go to the same college now but he's not even home, he was helping his girlfriend move apartments, im probably just going to wake my mom up, im going to fail and im concerned right now but later when im feeling especially stressed ill use that super power of mine where i can just ignore stress and not think about my problems, which will then lead to me not dealing with my problems, which is probably how i ended up in this mess in the first place. sorry, i think i got off on a tangent here, but it's 6:50 am now, and i think i really appreciate all the hard work you've done. i probably already said that. i think you could make a portfolio of all the work you've done and probably just use it as a resumé of some sort. i mean, i guess you have your website and that's literally the portfolio. im glad you put all of your work onto this forum, too, even though you didn't have to. im sorry you felt the the need to remove some of your hard work from this web site, and im sorry i mixed in my praise of you with my own problems, that's probably rude of me but at this point it would be weird for this post to be in the rant thread rather than your wall of text nobody wants to read not even me
im so proud of you son i really want to thank you for all that you've done it makes me sad that either you've been away or that i've been away or that we've both been away but you've done so much and i think a lot of us really appreciate what you have done and no other shado or ninja could really ever replace you, this might sound like a run on but really it's just a bunch of sentences typed together without periods, my head hurts and i just ran two miles and im failing multiple classes and i had an opportunity to make up for some of them but i didnt open up my email until today and over 12 quizzes that i didnt do before my teacher opened them up and said i had until last friday to do them, i might fail but you, you shadoninja are an inspiration, you do so much and i would thank you more often but unfortunately i am not infallible, and neither are many of us here on this site, so we did not properly thank you for the hard work you have done, but i do think i speak for many of us when i say we appreciate not only all that you have done for us but what you have done while you were away, this might sound mocking but i do mean it sincerely, my head still hurts for running two miles, but from now on there will be no more nonzero (https://www.reddit.com/r/getdisciplined/comments/1q96b5/i_just_dont_care_about_myself/cdah4af) days, i have a vague idea of what that means but really i still havent finished reading that post, today i have a mentor meeting after my 9 oclock class and all students have to meet with their mentor in order to be able to sign up for classes next semester, but it's kind of stupid that i need to sign up for my classes before i even know what i am going to pass this semester, i think what im trying to say is i really like your arrangements and all of the hard work you've put into them, even if some of them are for the ocarina and i cant play the ocarina, mostly because im too lazy to learn, i hardly even play the piano anymore except i play lost woods over and over and over again, it's really stupid, but you're not stupid and if only we could all be not stupid then maybe we would have shown our appreciation more and you would have never left, i think i was already away from nsm when you left but i visit from time to time and i should have talked to you more often, i should have talked to everyone more often because there are so many people that i care about and i end up not talking to any of them, and then one day i decide im going to work super hard to stay friends with this one person and then i guess it became a date, and then that weekend was over and i knew there wasnt going to be any more dating but i was so determined to stay friends with them that i also became super scared that i wasnt going to be friends with them any more, i was afraid it was going to turn out like the last person i dated, where one day they just stopped talking to me, so i messaged them hey pls dont stop messaging me i might die, and then i added maybe i wont actually die but yeah, and then they said ok and then i didnt really get any more messages from them, so i messaged them every day and then every few days and then i gave them two weeks of space but it wasnt working, it wasnt working, and im so sorry, i dont know what i did, i am so sorry that i couldnt be a better friend to at least that one person, and now im doing so bad in school and i had a chance to make up for it and then i fucking blew it, i dont even know what the hell happened monday through thursday when i was supposed to be catching up, maybe it was part fire emblem, part hanging out with my brother who came home from the other side of the world after two years, maybe i can talk to my teacher and they'll let me make up for the work i missed but i have more than one teacher, i have at least four teachers and that's over two months of quizzes and homework to catch up on for four different classes, i dont have any fucking idea how i got so behind, but i know im filled with regrets and i can still be emotionally okay because i am the embodiment of out of sight, out of mind, except when it comes to that failed friendship, where i thought of them literally every single day, and i wondered every day what might have went wrong, what did i do, what /can/ i do to fix it, and i thought that, i felt that i HAD to not give up no matter what, so i Mostly everyone starts at the bottom.
You could probably get some good free video editing software

HUGE SUCCEEDED!

http://steinocarina.com/productsDetail.php?id=149
Ships from Taiwan but usually only takes a week to arrive. You can also find these on songbird (http://www.songbirdocarina.com/collections/ocarinas-for-beginners) if you live in America.

This is the ocarina I started with. It doesn't require a lot of breath to get a good note and the flat surface on the right hand is easier than rounder surfaces in my opinion.
Also comes in pink (!!), blue, purple, and the most disgusting green (http://steinocarina.com/productList.php?class=2&line=4&nowpage=2) (look for the ones that say "12AC-P-[colour abbreviation]")

http://www.stlocarina.com/ztenorpl.html
This one by STL is very good too if you want one that's zelda inspired. About the same as the focalink minus the flat surface.

My friend tells me that most of STL's other ocarinas are generally not that good.

I don't know much about clay ocarinas if you wanted one of those instead, but you can ask me about them and I'll send them to my more knowledgeable ocarina friend.

Docjazz4 (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-69ubRH9FiX2f-8LVY6C5Q) has a ton of tutorials and covers for ocarina.

some good videos to get you started
