Soo, time to revive a topic!
Just post your New Year's Resolutions in here and converse. :)
Practice four hours a day. Minimum.
Spend five hour writing each week.
Study a new piece of music each week.
Seize the day.
Aah, a classic! Good luck to Carpe Dìem. :)

Have fun with that while still being in school or trying to maintain a job.
1440 x 900.
Between 4:3 and 16:9. I like semi-widescreen.

It helps a lot that they'll be basically paying me to practice sight-reading.
Here are mine:
- Try not to be so judgemental and cynical towards society.
- Start writing my book
- Get Print Music so I can start making arrangements.
- Do all my homework.
Work towards my ultimate goal of world domination.- Get a job.
- And try to look on the bright side of life
Finish writing a piece.
- Gain 80 pounds
- Drop out of school
- Find a nice big box
- Grow a nasty beard
- Sell all my videogames
- Buy a lot of alcohol
Get a job.
To lose at least 5-10 pounds. To have a girl friend, to teach someone german ::), and of course to become a better composer. 2010 will be a great year!

Was yours just MADE to contradict me? ::)
I lose weight, you gain weight.
I'm in school, you leave school.
You're selling videogames, I'm playing video games.
You grow a beard, I shave.
I sip alcohol, you drink alcohol.
What about you Kefka? Don't you have any ways to improve-
Who am I kidding.
I'm with dahans on finding a girlfriend. :P
Happy New Year everyone!

Kefka get an Asian A+ for his response. Just to inform everyone here, an Asian A+ equals 698.728374%. Why, you ask, does this number go to the millionths place? Because its Asian.
Girlfriend's not a priority, right now, as you can see.
hmm...
not procrastinate while doing school work (or any work for that matter, like arranging)
in other words, finish said work much faster
be nicer to a specific person...
tryout for drum major and make it. (if not Band Council)
practice more on my saxophones. (and piano i guess)
pass my English class with a B or more (i did last semester, but it was hard)
have the best 16th birthday party.
pass 6 feet tall (im already at 5' 11'')
hang out with friends a lot more.
finish any arrangement that will be suitable for playing in my band, and we actually play it.
and, im sure ill come up with more....

Sounds great :D and it's really difficult to lose so much weight, universe. Don't be too ambitious, if you lose too fast, it's really unhealthy.
That's why I have the whole year to do it. :P I have all the time in the world . . .
Another resolution: Finish my Tetris Devotion theme I finished it in a day :P It's for piano, but I used Mario paint on this one, besides Finale, becuase I use UGC's version of Tetris in this song, and I already had that done on Mario Paint.
Dedicate myself to one song at a time so I don't float between like 4 and not get anything done.
Study theory.
Study Chinese.
Buy my novel for English this year. (My teacher kept yelling at me, but I got 89% on the exam. Pfft, what does she know, right?)
Finish Clanker's Cavern. Especially.

2) Leave each day better than the last.

Don't ask stupid questions.
Oh, I did finish Clanker's. Only recently though. :3
Well, no girlfriend for me yet :P
I finished several compositions that were previously unfinished as well as some new ones.
I'm hazy on that one...:3
Ehh. What's the difference between a girlfriend, and a best friend that you cna show affection for?
Ahh, I would love to actually have some decent knowledge to be able to compose.
NEW RESOLUTION: Write a song. ;D
Quote from: Maretocks on December 31, 2010, 06:37:47 PMWhat's the difference between a girlfriend, and a best friend that you cna show affection for?
Not if your bestfriend's a dude... it's kinda weird, well for me it is (unless it's a bromance, then its ok, I guess) -- I really don't know anymore...
--------
Resolution 1911. Yes, I make formal resolutions like a contract/formal document.... it includes all major resolutions (Lent and New Years)
- Lose 30 Pounds
- Find a Girlfriend
- Spend a Max of $15 a week on Starbucks
- Quit Soda
- File a Tax Return with appropriate schedules
- Complete first year of College
- Have my best friend come and visit college
- Finish my novel
- Gain semi-fluency in French and significant knowledge in another language
- Go to Canada
- Follow Lenten Resolution - Go vegan for 4 days, vegetarian for 1 and eat meat and other stuff on weekends. Will complement 1 and 3 on the list
Wow.
My list is much shorter, until I come up with more.
I really need to get my grades up. :(
Finish Random Madness. Write somerthing new. Satisfy my piano teacher's never ending demands requests. Compose something worth listening to. Plucking up the courage to ask this girl out wouldn't hurt. Practice everything twice as often and twice as hard. Keep my grades up. Be less lazy. Be less arrogant. Be less egocentric. Be less of a jerk. Be less opinionated. Cut down my posting frequency.
...
Get some self-esteem, for God's sake. :(
I broke mine. Or rather, my PC broke, so it could only run in Safe Mode for a while. Thus, the resolution was changed to 800x600. However, once I got it back from repair, I turned it back to 1440x900. Think I'll go for the same resolution next year.
Hmm...I have never really done these. But let's see
- Take better care of myself
- Must get to study
- Practise piano more and play less
- Play at least 10 rpgs
- New record in javelin throw
- Try my best at work
- Read more books(I read about 3 books this last year :()
- Beat Ash
- Make compositions
- Get 100 subscribers in youtube(thanks for the nsmers who helped me with this yesterday ;D)
That's enough.
well i crossed out the ones i finished completely (from my last years resolution)
as for this year?
- take chances.
- be a more confident person and leader
- if voted back for Drum Major, be a better one.
- try harder in school. especially AP Physics.
- Be successful in a certain "field" that has always brought me down.
- ACTUALLY finish a band arrangent of a song. I have to bring in at least one arrangement and successfully play it.
- Be responsible, and really make everything right.
- im sure there are more...
I hope this year is a good one. There were many ups and downs last year, so lets make this year better. :p
Oh, right! I also need to get my black trainer card in Pearl by the end of the year...
I still need the national dex, master's rank competition, and... Oh yeah...
100 straight wins at the battle tower. :(

12 New Years Resolutions for 2012:
1. Get a girlfriend. This would imply someone I like and someone who likes me. (::))
2. Finish composing music for "Trapped" (I'm like 90% done).
3. Compose at least twenty songs the next year, good songs. Not including the music above.
4. Arrange at least twenty songs the next year, and at least five of others' requests.
5. Keep my goddamn history grade to at least a B.
6. Make an A in at least five classes.
7. Stop fighting so much with my siblings and be a nicer person to them and my parents.
8. Make it to GHP next summer (my interview in Februrary will determine this).
9. Hang out with friends socially way more often and be more socially adventurous.
10. Stop getting hung up on girls who don't care that much about me.
11. Practice the piano way more often, and twice as hard. If I'm serious about a career in film scoring, I'd better get better. In addition, memorizing Chopin's Raindrop Prelude would be beneficial to my health.
12. Be my own person, stop caring so much about others' opinions while still caring about them as people, be confident, and be an all-around better person.
Everybody else make twelve and do your best to follow them!
Making one for the entire year is silly, but one of my short term goals is to start laddering regularly.
Resolution: Find a way to make updates happen regularly. (After I get a job)
Anyways, gotta go... Turning in 3 applications in Wilsonville. (See, I'm trying xD)
My goal for the year: Find something useful to do with my life. Become better at illustrating and guitar and other shit I enjoy. Also to beat my mind into submission until it gets good study habits.
If I could have those things I'd be moderately happy.
To get published and get a few performances of my music.

EHEM:
http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-reasons-your-new-years-resolutions-going-to-fail/
I sort of disagree with the point of the article. I feel that it's better to lack a resolution in the first place. We shouldn't be thinking with the mindset that we need to accomplish certain tasks in a year or to wait for a particular year to solve particular problems. It seems irrational to me to annually address problems that one would like to resolve. Furthermore, I find it absolutely frivolous for people to consider that they won't accomplish any of their resolutions; well of course they won't, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy! This negativity that these resolutions create will problem only hinder growth, not promote it.
I would find it better for people to treat the year as another year and, rather than coerce themselves to change by creating a ridiculous deadline, they change gradually and slowly, as people usually do unconsciously (If you want examples of this, find an essay you wrote 2 or 3 years ago and compare it with an essay you wrote recently. If any of you are like me, the colossal change (Well, I hope there is one, otherwise, I must have been really dumb!) should leave you in awe). Radical change seldom ever accomplished much; during the French Revolution, once the radical Robespierre caused the Reign of Terror and we all know how badly that ended! I feel that it's better for one to naturally say to oneself that he/she wants to solve a problem, not for the end of the year to alert them. This permits people to take on one problem at a time (Rather than sporadically.) and accomplish gradual and permanent change. People change radically every year, the change is just very slow and is therefore unnoticeable to us all.
The only solution is to change your Resolutions to "Frivolous".
EDIT: Actually, after inspecting the article a bit more, I suppose it is dissuading people from having Resolutions (Or hoping to convince them to rethink how they create them). But either way, my point remains.
DOUBLE EDIT: I lied in my other post. Apparently, I incorrectly recalled the price of the violin. I'll buy it later, once I appropriate the money.
I was going to create a new thread, I didn't even know this one existed!
I never really believed in new years resolutions but recently I've realized the importance. In 2015 I will:
- Finish a paper/assignment earlier than the night before its due (at least once, I'm being optimistic)
- Try to stop avoiding certain people
- Keep a daily diary of events
- Finish learning a second language enough to understand basic conversation
- Run at least every other day (I know working out is extremely cliched but I've actually done it for most of the fall!!)
- Try to eat something each day that isn't either noodle or cheese based
- Invite someone to the movies or out to eat somewhere
- Redecorate my room

Jokes on you, I've actually been doing that all of 2014. I'm going to reread them all tomorrow night and I'm really excited for it :D
dang you're good
Who has time to do that? I certainly don't.
I haven't formalized my list yet, but here's what I have (15 for 2015):
- Become a licensed CPA
- Stop worrying about money all the time and constantly budgeting
- Change from Federal Tax to State and Local Tax
- Move away from San Jose
- Decide to rent or sell my beach house in Virginia
- Be on my feet more and find things to do outside my house
- Get a new car (one which I can get carpool lane stickers)
- Learn Spanish and Portuguese, continue using French a lot
- Stop sleeping in past 10
- Volunteer more
- Visit friends more
- Get to know more people at work
- Invest more, spend less
- Tune up my desktop
- Play more video games -- because I really didn't play a lot in 2014
1. Stop being such a fuck up
2. Refer to Resolution 1
I want to start finishing things that I've started before starting new things.
My 2015 Resolutions:
1) be less lazy
2) stop being lazy
3) dont be lazy
ill actually probably be lazier this year
that resolution is lazy
no its not
i was only gonna make one resolution man this is progress
1. Finish 2000 arrangements before Christmas of 2015.
why not 1264 arrangements
I'll be graduating and have at least one guaranteed job, so with the extra free time I plan to:
a) seriously get back into piano
b) pick up meaningful amounts of mandarin and/or canto
c) continue learning new foods
Perhaps more will come to mind as the year progresses :D
Quote from: braixen1264 on December 31, 2014, 03:59:57 PMwhy not 1264 arrangements
Whoops...holy crap, I meant
200.
LoL mines arranging every arrangment I promised to arrange. I feel like a fool not finishing em.
Let's see, the year in which I should obtain my master's degree. Also becoming a quarter of a century old, so I suppose it's only downhill from here.
1) Do things on time. If I'm given an assignment that has a deadline in a week and takes two hours to do, why can't I actually do it before the last day before the deadline, sometimes even in the same morning. Multiply this by all the assignments I have and it's a fun little source of stress that lasted for all of 2014. Fix it, damn it.
2) Stop promising things and learn to schedule. Related to the first point as I have a fun habit of hoarding too many responsibilities and then being miserable while attempting to fulfill everything.
3) Exercise, goes without saying. The plan was to start this week but...yeah. Maybe just remove this from the list.
4) Learn to write. With all the writing I need to do for work and school, I really should improve my writing skills. The same goes for writing forum posts like these.

Maybe I'll try and stop being such a lazy piece of shit. I did a little better in procrastinating less this past semester. Let's hope I can keep it up.

1.) Balance RL with NSM. Very important now that classes start next Monday. Kinda sorta sold my soul to arranging last time I was in school (how else could I make daily arrangements, lol :-X. Pray my brain hasn't turned to mush!)
2.) Be a better updater. I seem to have worked only in sprees thus far.
3.) ...and, of course, chip away at my PMD GtI arrangement project. Only 106 more to go!
1. To get something on the site.

In all seriousness mlf you need to understand that maestro doesn't really have any trouble with transcription haha
1. To get at least one of the way too many of my "arrangement projects" done.
I would love to see school dissapear. And get a job. I'd love to speak.
But most importantly, I need someone to love. ;-;

Not quite a resolution, haha. That aside, savor your free education while you can. I won't go into some preachy rant about how some people around the world aren't fortunate enough, etc., but it really is a privilege. Even if the subject matter in certain classes doesn't really pique your interest, there's a lot to be said for learning to work hard for hard work's sake. It'll help you manage less-than-optimal situations in the future, not to mention to get into college.

This is a great one. Definitely do it if you can, I often wish I'd tried working sooner.

Another great one! Just for yourself though, try making it more specific. The more specifically you can name the things you want to do, the more you can compartmentalize the different aspects, the more manageable it becomes, and the more likely you are to actually do it.

While I'm not saying that you shouldn't go for anything, high school relationships are pretty overrated, imo. Looking back on mine and many others', there are a rare few that I'd consider to be "healthy relationships". Everybody's still maturing and figuring themselves out as people, and hormones are abound. Sure, a little experience is healthy, but it's by no means necessary. My brother, due to no lack of charisma or sex appeal (seriously he's so much cooler than I am it's not even fair), didn't have any relationships until his sophomore year of college. Now, he's been in a happy relationship with a great girl for about 3 years, and they are quite possibly my favorite couple in existence. Again, enjoy your years of free education, and try not to stress out too much about these things that you'll likely find inconsequential when you look back on them later.

This is so true, I want to frame it. So often I see people get in a relationship, start preaching about true love, then they break up 2 months later once the infatuation phase is over.

WHERE IS HE PUTTING THE GLASS
My New Years resolution is to be better with money. I finished College after all and I have $20k in student loans coming up I gotta start paying in April. Just got a job at the turn of the year (it's crappy) but I can begin to pay off my credit card.
I've already started making changes! I closed out my crappy Bank of America account and got a checking account at a credit union, and I'm minimizing bill costs. Gonna invest in power efficient light bulbs/ buy my own modem and stop paying extra internet fees. All over time of course. GOnna get a better car insurance company (I pay $161/mo!) Also I'm gonna pay off my maxed out credit card (it's onlt $750, I can do that in a few months with a job)
etc etc.. point is, gotta make changes.
That's really it. Hate being broke, I suppose!
So my boyfriend and I make loads of silly jokes, so we decided to count them this year. Whoever has most at the end of the year has to make a song about the other.
nothing really changed i guess
That's a great idea!
I'm trying to decide whether its worth it to add a late resolution at an attempt to improve my speech...I'm incredibly aware that in every one of my posts on any site I use the words "actually, really, kinda, honestly, idk" etc way too much but I'm not sure if I care enough to fix it
My resolution(s) is to:
1. Get a girlfriend.
2. Get through High School
3. Be on next years thread recap as "NSM's best member"
It's that time of year again! happy new year, everybody.
1. TACO - Total Accountability, Contingency, and Organization.
2. Brush teeth even more often!
3. something something good grades!
4. [placeholder resolution]
5. Eat more!
6. Do more choral stuff!
7. Feel less empty inside!
8. [content deleted]
9. Check email more often!
10. do monthly resolutions!

I found out I have a deep rooted, violent rage towards people so I guess I'll try not to be stay quiet about those things and/or be bitter about them. So if I appear angrier this year it's [your] fault for doing stupid things.
As in, my first dream of the year was beating the shit out of at least once person until they were out cold ._. Never though I'd had it in me, and that rage was like...wow.
