This is where all my piano stuff will go.
Any feedback is always appreciated.

Anything listed as red is incomplete.
Everything else is either on site or is decent enough for myself to deem it completed.

Preeetty good for a first arrangement if you ask me, at least it's better than my first (idk where it went, though).

A few things I felt like pointing out though. What Finale product do you use? If it's notepad, you probably won't be able to fix some the things I'll be pointing out right now ,__,

-The song is in F minor, which means that the key signature should have 4 flats instead of one.
-Make sure the G# in bar 28 is an Ab.
-The chord in bars 33-34 and 37-38 is an Abm, which means every B natural is an Cb, every D# is an Eb and every E is an Fb (both right and left hand)

-For reading purposes, it would be better to use an 8vb marking in the left hand at bar 23-24.
-Also put an 8va marking from the C in bar 28 to the Db in 29.

You'll have to fix some of that note beaming though. Not all of it is totally illegal, but the figure you're using in the left hand at measures #29 trough #31 is problematic. Make sure the beats are visible through the notes.

Also, I was using a trial of Finale 2014 up to this point to arrange and format the mus to midi and pdf files, but the trial is over now lol. So I got Finale 2012 but I can't format the mus file to midi and pdf from there, so where do I go now? (And Finale 2014 is too expensive for an average 13 year old to buy so yeah)

type in finale notepad (2012) in google, you can't get to it from the MS site easily, but it's completely free so it's what I use :P

Because of the perfectionist I am, you'll have to change the title to "Battle! Super-Ancient Pokémon".

The key signature is C-minor. The Db is only there because it's in Phrygian mode.
A lot of your harmonies are wrong, most notable in that "mini-modulation" into F-phrygian in measures#9 and #10, where it seems you still think C is the tonal center. Just adjust it so the harmonies are the same intervals as earlier, just in the key of F instead of C.
There are more mistakes later on too, so I suggest you try doing the harmonies over again.

Just popping through here, I think you should use the official English name for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity instead of using the translated Japanese name. Speaking of that, someone should change the game name for the sheets already on the website.

Okay, I just thought it'd be better to use PMD: MatIL. But besides the point, aren't they both acceptable?

I SAID I WOULD GIVE FEEDBACK

-Overall, there are lots of places where the rhythm grouping is incorrect. Go here (http://forum.ninsheetm.us/index.php?topic=4845.msg168866#msg168866) for information about what they are and how to make them correctly.
Also, try to add some staccato marks in the score. Staccato means to play a note shortly. The marking for this is under the articulation tool, it's the first one in the list.
-Add a double barline before every key change. This can be done with the measure tool.
About the key changes though, I believe the key changes to E major in measure 21, but I'm not sure about that.

-I believe the A's in measure 14 should be Bb's.
Change the D#'s, G#'s and A#'s into Eb's, Ab's and Bb's in measure 17-18. This makes it easier to read (also note: The D in the left hand should be an Eb)
Like measure 14, I believe the B's should be C's.

Also, the title has to be between parentheses.

YER ALIVEEEEEEEE

you tried with the URL lol

Looking good, really! Some LH notes probably just need some staccato. Oh and in some parts of the second half, you have two tied eighths which you should rewrite as a quarter. (You can just change the timesig of the song to 4/4 and it should re-beam everything correctly)

Also the notes are squished weirdly in 10, 14, 20 and 24, just delete and re-enter them.

Probably more to come later, I'm a bit busy atm

Look out for grace notes in m. 12 and such

Good job so far!

I think in cases like measures 17-end, you might want to have the left hand take over some of the harmonies. Like the low D in measure 17 could be played with the left instead of the right. That would make it an octave chord as opposed to an 11(ish) chord.

Also, be sure to let me know when you want to add this to the arrangement project.  :)

Only Eb's, the other flats are correct. The Eb's are part of a B major chord, which is B, D#, F#.

For playability and readability:
Roll any reaches in the L.H. that are greater than a minor tenth.
Notate anything you want the L.H. to play in the lower staff, if the notes end up too high change the clef (mostly talking about mm.1-15)
Use cross staff beaming to put any notes in the second R.H. voice that are greater than a minor tenth away from the melody in the bottom staff (to indicate that it's being played by the L.H.)

Those are mostly optional and there are other ways to do it, so you decide.

Ah jeez, well yea it should be dotted half = 63. Since it's in 6/8 then it should be dotted quarter = 126

Sorry, it should be dotted quarter = 63 as long as you half the note values (so three quarter notes ultimately turn into 1 dotted quarter)

i decided to take a quick look at snowbelle city (it's one of my favorite x/y songs) and i actually noticed a few accidental issues. m. 35 should be a D# in the melody (leading tone for E minor), and then m. 36 D#-E-F(#) instead of E-flat-F-flat-G-flat
edit: oh and m. 51, should be F(#) instead of G-flat in the LH chord

I might actually take a closer look later but that's all I see for now. Nice arrangement!

That seems like an awful lot of work. Could you explain why it's 6/8 instead of 3/4? Is it for the entire song?
Title: Re: Braixen1264's Arrangments (NEW: Pokémon X and Y: Snowbelle City)
Post by: Zeila on December 13, 2015, 03:46:34 PM
It's just the vibe I get from it. I feel that the song is supposed to be calming, majestic, and whatnot (for lack of a better description). The phrasing is kind of like what you have already, but I don't see the song being at presto. Plus, if you notate it as 6/8, you end up saving space.

I could understand why you wouldn't want to change it as it does seem like a lot of work, but you don't have to change every note one at a time. If you go to utilities (I believe) > change > note durations, you can choose 50%. If you don't like how finale rebars the music (since I don't think dynamics and stuff will move), you can uncheck that too and manually cut and paste measures over. It will still take a bit of time, but not nearly as much

And yes, it is for the whole piece. If you (or anyone else) have any disagreements then feel free to say so. Also, if the only reason you don't want to change it to 6/8 is due to the work behind it, then I can change it for you

Here's how I determine if a piece should be 3/4 or 6/8: It's all in how you count the beats.
3/4: 1 & 2 & 3 & 1 & 2 & 3 &
6/8: 1 2 3 4 5 6 1 2 3 4 5 6

In this case, the beat counting in Snowbelle City is definitely the latter. If anyone has a good example of a 3/4 piece in X/Y to compare to, that would be a nice thing.

It just seems really weird for both parts to be simultaneously doing something that can be done by one, like I'm pretty sure it's better for one piano to be silent than for both to be weak individually

O my gosh, Tree of Life? Why didn't I know about this so- Wait, two pianos? NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Great arrangement, on the parts where the right hand in Piano 1 has four notes and nothing in the left hand, couldn't you split it into two notes for each hand or make the left hand hold some notes to make it sound better?

Measure 8, the second note in RH P1 is not tied (or at least I don't hear it tied)

Measure 10, beat 3 P1, there's a note.

49 to the end, P1 there's some trumpet things that could be played with the LH.

Add some dynamics to P2.

I'm not sure how viable that would be, personally I'd read it easier if it was on one side and not both, and I could play it with two hands if I wanted to.

Measure 8, the second note in RH P1 is not tied (or at least I don't hear it tied)
It's tied for me

Measure 10, beat 3 P1, there's a note.
If you mean the strings in beat 2, I purposely left that out. If that's not it I can't tell what you mean, I'm not hearing a note at beat 3

49 to the end, P1 there's some trumpet things that could be played with the LH.
Can barely hear it, but I added what I could. Had to transpose it down an octave though

Add some dynamics to P2.
Done
[close]

@Zeila
Formatting/notation stuff:
I don't think the forward repeat sign is necessary at the beginning
Ok, took it out

There are some beaming issues in the 6/8 section. If you did that because it's disconnected in the song, I think it would be better if you were to just use staccatos in p1 (or tenutos in p2) and beam them together (you defs should though in m36-37)
I just don't know how to beam actually. I beamed some stuff together in measures 36-37 but besides that I don't really know what to do

You should put a double barline before every key/time sig change
Done

Along with adding dynamics to p2 (in multiple spots, like after diminuendos and stuff), I think it would be nice to have a crescendo in first 8 measures (or just m7/8), w/ m5 being written as a dynamic higher. Another spot where dynamic changes would be better or more accurate is m9
Done

I just barely noticed, but the piano marking at m38 should be aligned better
Fixed

Maybe you could hide the mp in m12 (p2)
Hidden. Thought it would be necessary since you're going from mf to mp then mf again the next measure and if it's hidden it looks like you're diminishing from mf to mf.

Why are there tied eighth notes on beat 3.5 like for example in m15? It's not wrong, it's just not necessary (you can keep it though)
Because it's easier on my brain xD

Note stuff:
You're missing some harmonies m5-8, and while you're at it, have the LH play the melody while the RH plays the chords at the higher register (p1)
Would that not make the two hands overlap? I'd rather avoid that

m9 sounds like octaves instead of chords (p1). Instead of having p2 play the octaves, have p1 do that while p2 starts with that pattern[
Done

m10 (p1) is just the top note, and there's no way people are going to be able to play intervals that wide (p2). This might sound weird, but maybe you can lower the RH part and octave and have the LH play the lower layer and the whole notes
I moved the LH. of p2 in measures 11-12 to the LH. of p1. I feel like this should make it possible to play without changing any notes.

There's an Ab in m16 and 18 beat 4.5 (RH p1), and you're missing two eighth notes and a quarter on the last two beats in m13, 15, 17, and 19
Added

The start of the 6/8 section is just thirds (p1) with the exception of the 2nd eighth note in m33, and I feel like the marimba part until m38 has an Eb on beats 2 and 4 instead of an F but I could be wrong. m36-37 are thirds instead of octaves
I actually heard those harmony notes in m.30-35 separately and put them in afterward and heard them really clearly so I'm pretty sure they aren't all just thirds. I changed the F's to Eb's and made the octaves thirds.

I think you should remove the harmonies that conflict with the main melody (and also that C on the last measure) in p1
I personally don't see a problem with them, it doesn't really sound weird to me.

Cute track! I like it. ;D Just a few insignificant points for you if you'd like:

• I'd probably add some staccatos to the xylophone parts of the melody (such as the beginning).
• Make sure that the intervals throughout the chromatic scales in mm.17-19 are all the same (for example, not changing from a 3rd to a 4th interval).
• The RH accompaniment actually comes in a bit earlier in m. 3 (it starts on the last eighth beat of m. 2).
• The chords in m. 3, 7, etc. could be made fuller by adding an additional note below (it sounds like there's some dissonance there in the original).

The OP looks flashy!

Now before anyone cries "Bespin y u make impossible sheet", the below is simply for exact transcription reference only.

The brass choir in the OST blends really well, so you have to make a concerted effort to discern the individual notes. We can take about "making it fuller", but really it's just about getting the right notes and the right positioning and inversions of those notes. The most important note missing, however, is the dominant 7th. It's not C, but C7. Not F, but F7. The tipsy tritones contained in these chords is what gives them the sound so characteristic of Ampharos and his antics.

I'll fix up Wandering Ampharos I swear
But first here's what I got done today

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity - "Pokémon Paradise 3"

This arrangement is by no means completed, but I'll just leave it here anyway. I'm going to end up compressing it into a solo arrangement and do all the formatting then as well.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky - "In The Morning Sun"

This one just looks kinda gross and I don't know how to go about fixing it at all so any help with that would be appreciated.

I just made it easy to read and kept it a duet. Didn't want to reduce it to a solo because I don't want to sacrifice the range and possibly entire voices just for playability's sake.
