I just realized we don't have a topic for what is undeniably the greatest game on the Nintendo 3DS! :o

Share your experiences with this game so we can all enhance one another's enjoyment of this wonderful software, available on the Nintendo eShop!

Movies & TV / What are your favorite anime?
August 30, 2014, 05:56:24 PM
I don't know if we have any sort of thread for this, and with the recent news of more Haruhi universe animation coming in 2015, it reminded me that I actually used to actively talk about anime on here. So everyone, just list a few anime series that are your favorites. It doesn't really matter if more than one person lists the same anime, since I'm just sort of more curious about everyone's preferences than anyone else.

My favorites:
1. Kids on the Slope
2. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
3. Mawaru Penguindrum

Nintendo / The New Nintendo 3DS
August 29, 2014, 05:56:14 AM
Okay... So it's confirmed that Xenoblade Chronicles is coming out specifically for this system, rather than for the original Nintendo 3DS... Does this mean we're going to see a lot more New Nintendo 3DS-exclusive games? I mean okay the new systems are awesome but I'd really rather not have to upgrade AGAIN... I want to know all of your opinions on this one.

Nintendo / Mario Kart 8

Hey! This is a discussion topic for this game. Who's your guys' favorite racer overall, and favorite new racer?

For my brother it's the same--for some reason he loves playing as Ludwig. For me, some of my favorites are Rosalina, Baby Luigi, Baby Rosalina, and Koopa Troopa (with my favorite Koopaling being Larry).

As of today, it's been a full seven years since Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl came out in the United States. I feel so goddam old. I was only 11 when they were released but I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

I figured that it would be fun if we all shared our favorite memories of the original Pokémon games for the Nintendo DS, the two that really set the groundwork for what a Pokémon game should look like on that system.

I'm going to use the following format, and the rest of you can feel free to as well, or you can just share a fond memory or something. Have fun, and dedicate today to remembering the first time you experienced a two-screen battle, laughed at your hyperactive rival, or tinkered around with a Pokétch.

Favorite town or city: Floaroma Town. It may seem like an odd choice, but the music theme is so lilting and lovely, and walking among the flowers there gives a real sense of peace and beauty.

Favorite route: Route 209. It's just a short little stretch leading from Hearthome City to Solaceon Town, but it's got the Lost Tower and Spiritomb's little thing there, and it has what might be the most loved music from the game.

Favorite new feature: Having different music play during the day and at night. It was such a clever touch, and done extraordinarily well, and I wish they would have kept doing it for the other games.

Favorite music: "Battle! (Dialga/Palkia)" has to be my favorite. It's just so well-written, and it's a highlight even among this excellent soundtrack.

Favorite new Pokémon: I honestly have to go with Turtwig. It's such a cutie and its charm has never worn off for me.

Favorite new evolution: Leafeon--Eevee FINALLY gets a Grass-type evolution! It was about time! Honchkrow and Dusknoir are right up there though, for being just so damn cool.

Favorite new pre-evolution: Mime Jr. I cannot get over how adorable that Pokémon is.

Nintendo / The Super Mario Topic
April 07, 2014, 09:47:17 AM
Hey! I just realized we have no general thread for talking about the Super Mario series, so here's one if you have any news or thoughts about any of the games. Any Mario game can be talked about here, just be sure to mark spoilers!

Anyway, I just beat Superstar Saga on my Wii U--in the past, I had been able to get to the final boss, but had never beaten it before. It's a really tough fight! With that, I can finally say I've beaten all games in the Mario & Luigi series.

With the recent re-release of this game, I thought a good poll to start us off would be about the Mario & Luigi series. My personal favorite is the most recent one, Dream Team. Go ahead and vote! And is anyone else planning on buying Superstar Saga on Wii U?

Nintendo / Stereoscopic 3D on the Nintendo 3DS
January 06, 2014, 11:33:25 AM
I'm curious as to what everyone's opinions on the 3D effect are. Vote and, if you want, post a couple games that you thought used the 3D really well (or really badly).

A few games I thought used 3D really well:
Super Mario 3D Land
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask

A few games that I was disappointed in the 3D effect:
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Pokémon X and Y

Forum Games / Upcoming Games to Hurt and Heal
December 04, 2013, 09:34:26 AM
How about a hurt and heal of upcoming Nintendo games? These are all the currently announced games that are being published by Nintendo. Four for the Wii U, six for the 3DS. You know the rules--up to two hurt points per day, spread out however you want, and up to one heal point per day. Days go by calendars, so you can theoretically have two posts in a 24 hour period as long as they're separate calendar days. Have fun!

1. Wii Fit U - 10
2. Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze - 10
3. Mario Kart 8 -10
4. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U -10
5. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy - 10
6. Mario Golf: World Tour - 10
7. Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - 10
8. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS - 10
9. Kirby: Triple Deluxe - 10
10. Yoshi's New Island - 10

So the long-awaited fifth entry in the Ace Attorney series is finally being released tonight at midnight! I'll be one of the midnight downloads of course. I can't wait to play this game.

I'm curious as to the results of the poll, so please answer! Also, for those that are playing Dual Destinies, kindly put game discussion, especially story-related discussion, in spoiler tags.

Movies & TV / Arrested Development
June 27, 2013, 12:05:11 PM
I'm sure a lot of you guys have already seen it because it first aired in like 2003, but I'm just discovering it, plus the new season just came out last month, so it has some relevance.

How many of you watch this show? I'd give it my highest recommendation. I finished season one on Tuesday, and liked it so much that today I went out and bought seasons two and three.

So if you haven't seen it, start watching Arrested Development! It's definitely my new favorite show, ahead of Modern Family even, and even Mashi is watching it!!! Soon

For those of you who have seen it, do the other seasons live up to the first one? I've seen two episodes of season two and they seem to be great, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this series stays awesome.

Music / Q & A With Chad York
June 19, 2013, 01:35:12 PM
Hello to all NSMers! We have some pretty big news: Chad York of Next Level Games has agreed to do a Q and A with us! Mr. York was the audio director of the recent Nintendo 3DS game Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and has also worked on games such as Punch-Out!! for the Nintendo Wii. This will be very neat and informative for the website, considering that many of us aspire to have the same job he has currently.

After talking about it with Mr. York as well as Olimar12345, we decided the forums would be a more interactive way to conduct this Q and A than would be an email or something similar.

I'll start things by posting a few questions. Other members can also post their own questions here. I'll email him a link to this thread and he can respond at his leisure.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. All questions must be reasonable and appropriate. Remember that video game studios can rarely talk about games that aren't announced, or games that aren't released yet.
2. Remember that there's a chance he might not answer your question right away, or at all. Don't be offended—Next Level Games undoubtedly has a lot going on right now after E3, and he might be crunched for time.
3. You can post as many questions as you like, but please don't be ridiculous—everyone here will want their questions answered, so try to limit yours to a few.
4. Be aware that this interview will likely contain some sort of spoilers for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

To Mr. York—answer our questions in any fashion you want. If you want to answer them out of order, that's fine. If there are some you'd rather not answer, that's fine too. If there's anything unrelated you'd like to add, great. We really appreciate you giving us your time. All that we ask is that you state the question you're answering before you answer it, to make things easier. Later on, we'll probably compile together the questions and answers and post the interview on the site.

Without further ado, here are my questions:
1. Could you describe the process of writing the music for Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon? That is, how long it took, how many people worked on the music, how much creative freedom you had, etc.

2. How inspired were you by Kazumi Totaka's score for the original 2001 Luigi's Mansion? Was the development team able to collaborate with Totaka for this game?

3. Which parts of Dark Moon were easiest to compose for? Which parts were most difficult?

4. As with the original Luigi's Mansion, Luigi begins humming the theme music if left alone for too long. Did the audio team work with Charles Martinet during the recording process? If so, could you describe that briefly?

5. Is there any music from Dark Moon that you like in particular, or that you'd like to talk about?

6. Many people on this site have dreams of becoming video game composers. Do you have any advice for those people?

Nintendo / Best Nintendo Console
May 28, 2013, 07:16:31 PM
All right, this is a topic to decide the best Nintendo home console (and later, handheld). We will start with the first two, and after 24 hours I'll reset the poll with the winning one of this poll and the next console. And so on and so forth.

Nintendo / Animal Crossing: New Leaf
May 21, 2013, 12:27:17 PM
Is anyone else excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf? I can't wait, considering several factors:

1. I loved the other games in the Animal Crossing series, particularly Wild World. I enjoyed Wild World mostly due to its being on a handheld system, which I feel is better for the series.
2. The graphics look beautiful and even better than City Folk.
3. What I've heard of the new music is quaint and catchy, just like the other entries.
4. They're keeping many of the same elements while changing up the game a LOT more than Wild World and City Folk did.
5. Did I mention I love Animal Crossing?

Animal Crossing is easily the best game of its kind, and I love how it's a game that gives you reason to play every day.

Also, fans might find this interesting: Nintendo is really giving New Leaf a lot of press. You can follow @animalcrossing on Twitter for news on the game, and Nintendo is publishing a series of videos called "Inside the Treehouse" in which the localization team discusses different aspects of the game. Because it's the localization team, they're not exactly great in front of the camera, but it's interesting anyway. I'll post them here if you guys are interested in watching them.

Episode 1: Localizing Animal Crossing
Episode 2: Connectivity
Episode 3: Your First Day in Town
Episode 4: Customizing Your House
Episode 5: Being the Mayor
Episode 6: The Characters of Animal Crossing
Episode 7: The Calendar of Events

HUMANS WIN!

1. TWG Falcon - vermilionvermin - Wolf
2. TWG Mario - Mandrew! - Human
3. TWG Waluigi - Mashi - Human
4. TWG Yoshi - Kman96, later replaced by gzgregory - Human
5. TWG Link - BlackDragonSlayer - Human
6. TWG Pikachu - blueflower999 - Wolf
7. TWG Samus - Bubbles 7689 - Human
8. TWG Fox - FSM-Reapr - Human
9. TWG Bowser - MaestroUGC - Wolf
10. TWG Kirby - Dude - Human
11. TWG DK - TheZeldaPianist - Human
12. TWG Luigi - the_last_sheikah, later replaced by Yugi - Human

One thing I found interesting was how many of these accounts lined up with characteristics of their actual identities. For instance, Bubbles7689 being the only girl and receiving the only female account. Or Fox and Mario having the same first initials as FSM-Reapr and Mandrew!. Or Luigi ending in the same two letters as Yugi (okay that was a stretch, plus he wasn't the original owner of the account).

Player Analysis

1. TWG Falcon / vermilionvermin
Your performance was above average. That is, you put reasonable effort into the game and such but you didn't have the opportunity to do much as the humans found you out pretty quickly. Your arguments and posts in the thread showed a lot of work, and I appreciate that.

2. TWG Mario / Mandrew!
In the brief time you existed in the game, you hardly did anything. Of course you were killed fairly quickly, so it's not like I can judge how you would have played had you not been.

3. TWG Waluigi / Mashi
Excellent. Not only did you manage to create consistently coherent and logical arguments against your fellow players, you managed to do it in character as Waluigi. I was pretty sad when the Wolves got to you.

4. TWG Yoshi / Kman96 / gzgregory
Kman96: lazy job. gzgregory: great job showing activity when I kind of sprung on you "ohai we need you to replace some guy." I really appreciate how you were right there when I needed you. Too bad you were also killed fairly quickly.

5. TWG Link / BlackDragonSlayer
WHAT?! YOU WERE BLACKDRAGONSLAYER???!!?!?! Okay seriously I'm not sure if you did it on purpose, but you didn't adopt any sort of alternate personality, instead keeping directly in line with your other one, right down to the frequent use of "merely," the constant tongue smiley, and the posting of pictures in response to comments. Every single PM I received that was some sort of speculation listed your identity correctly. Maybe if you do this again try to be a little less obvious? Other than that, you did a very admirable job. One of the most active players, you fought until the bitter end. That last argument on the last five pages of the thread was freaking EPIC, even if I had to skim over much of it. If there was anything wrong with it, it was putting too much faith in Luigi, trusting that he would actually read those giant blocks of text. When your "tl;dr" version is the size of a small novella, there's a problem.

6. TWG Pikachu / blueflower999
If I'm being totally honest, I wasn't really impressed. It was quite clear that you didn't care about the game enough to log into your other account and post. You never made any wolfing suggestions, just went along with what Bowser said. Even on the day you were to be lynched, you didn't post any sort of good defense.

7. TWG Samus / Bubbles7689
You showed a reasonable amount of activity, but I never saw anything that I thought contributed much to the game. It was a fairly standard performance overall, but you definitely showed a lot more activity than others so I appreciate the effort you put into the game.

8. TWG Fox / FSM-Reapr
Your performance in-game is essentially like Samus's. However, you did a lot of things that were fairly annoying, mainly continually insisting on posting your identity. While I did twice have you remove posts that revealed your true identity, I somehow missed this one, which is just stupid and you would undoubtedly have been either made to remove the post or banned. I hate that you felt the need to post that. I know it may be a joke to you, but the point of the alternate accounts is to not tell anyone your identity and you apparently couldn't handle that. It's a pretty big part of the game. Don't apologize or feel guilty, just be sure not to do that in the future, all right? As for your game, as mentioned earlier it was similar to Samus's, though you contributed more. You were very active, which I really appreciated. I am really happy you were able to contribute so much to the game.

9. TWG Bowser / MaestroUGC
The best Wolf player this game, your performance was near perfect. I don't know what else I can say. You showed dedication to the game, and manipulated the humans with expertise. It's true that in the end Luigi voted for you, but I firmly believe that it was a toss-up and he was not confident in the slightest you were really the wolf. Excellent performance overall, though some stupid blunders such as forgetting to vote one day phase really hindered you.

10. TWG Kirby / Dude
Yum~

11.TWG DK / TheZeldaPianist
After a worryingly inactive start, your game picked up very quickly and by the time you died I was a little disappointed because I knew you could contribute a lot to the Human team. Also, A+ job on trying to impersonate Mashi and/or Thiannon.

12. TWG Luigi / the_last_sheikah / Yugi
the_last_sheikah: You did nothing for this game. Yugi: You replaced him after expressing great interest in the game, and then proceeded to be relatively inactive to the point that I would have replaced you as well if it had not been so late in the game. I feel like your last vote was just a shot in the dark to avoid a phantom, although I must admit I felt bad for you having to read through five pages of arguments that even I didn't read. Overall pretty standard job.

HUMAN MVP: TWG Link / BlackDragonSlayer
WOLF MVP: TWG Bowser / MaestroUGC

Nice game everyone, it turned out better than I had expected. It was a REALLY close game.

Off-Topic / Three Years of NSM
May 09, 2013, 04:04:20 PM
So several days ago, on May 3, I hit my three-year anniversary of being on NSM. And while I think you guys I know I like it here, I would like to take this opportunity to reminisce for a moment. Here are few reasons that NSM is my favorite forums on the internet. besides Pokecharms MODERATOR NOTE: BANNED

You Helped Me Learn To Internet
When I first joined this forum, I was an obnoxious asshole. True, now I'm a slightly older obnoxious asshole, but my point is that I know how to handle myself better. I was at that stage where you think stupid jokes are hilarious and you overuse the smileys and post stupid pictures in response to statements and you haven't quite learned to internet. You all helped me change that. NSM was my forums experience, and I couldn't ask for a better one.

You Taught Me A Lot About Music
My first post was a request for four Pokemon music pieces. I didn't know anything about music. I played piano, sure. Pretty well for someone that age. But my ego was way too big for what I was, thanks to showers of senseless praise heaped upon me by my parents and relatives. I knew how to play songs. I didn't know how to play the piano. Thanks to a bunch of music majors and theory experts here, my knowledge of and experience with music has skyrocketed, and I'd like to especially thank a certain Dahans, because he is the one who made me get Finale. I don't think I would be the same person I am today without him.

You Are A Great Community
I came for the music, I stayed for the people. You all rock, seriously. I had never been familiar with the concept of online friends, brainwashed by the media that everyone on the internet is a rapist and you should never use the computer ever. That went out the window fairly quickly, didn't it? Everyone there that first summer is, in my eyes, "the original NSM crew," although I realize that goes back several years. It was during that first year that a lot happened. I wrote my first complete story. I met a lot of cool people (including people I'm still good friends with, such as Jub3r7, Mashi, Roz~, etc.) and we had a ton of fun using Tinychat and just generally being geeks.

You Are Hilarious
I have more inside jokes on this forum than I do with my IRL friends. The frivolity is |tone deaf| A+++++++++. Plus most of you have a genuinely great sense of humor anywhere.

All Sorts Of Crazy Sh*t Happens Here
I think it was during the winter of 2010-2011 that I first realized what internet humor was. This was, of course, thanks to two (one?) very unusual member(s) who went by the names Sipan1234 and TalesEXLife. Oh my gosh. Talk about weird. These two guys were allegedly Dutch and spoke no English, instead relying on Google Translate or something equally bad for all of their posts. As a result, each post only brought tears of laughter to my eyes. There were such gems as "I like stabbing is fun I enjoy it," "Are you on sports" and all its ensuing chaos, and of course the infamous "bow to the longest child ever." I'm currently campaigning for them to come back.

And--I can't stress this enough--You Are A GREAT Community
Even as my time here passes three years, I'm still meeting new people and getting to know the old ones. I'm proud to be a part of this forums, and I love every single member. Honest. I know there's a certain douchebag level to this forum, and that I am too often the one contributing, but overall it's one of the friendliest places I've seen in my entire time around the internet.

Finally...
I have no qualms saying that NSM is the reason I intend to study music at college. You have been great to me, one and all, and you helped me discover myself. Thanks for listening.

To copulate, I love you. That's all.

I have tried arranging this in the past but for whatever reason I really dislike arranging pieces that are originally for piano, so it didn't go well. If anyone wants to take over, I'd appreciate it.

TWG LII: The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya

Haruhi Suzumiya is at it again, forcing the SOS Brigade to do all sorts of insane shenanigans.  This time she has the gang acting in a mystery-themed stage play she scripted, starring Itsuki Koizumi, Yuki Nagato, and Ryoko Asakura as the murderers. However, due to Haruhi's wish for a true mystery, her powers inadvertently switch up all the performers' minds the night before the play, meaning that potentially no one other than her is actually in their own body! It's up to Kyon, your host and narrator--who has also miraculously remained in his original body--and the rest of the performers to deduce in whose bodies Koizumi, Nagato, and Asakura actually are.

List of true roles with according colors:
1. Itsuki Koizumi

4. Mikuru Asahina
5. Tsuruya
