Help! / PrintMusic Limitations?
December 30, 2013, 12:06:05 PM
I would like to invest in a Finale product so I can start adding my arrangements to this grand database, but I don't think full Finale 2014 ($600) is in my price range, and PrintMusic, judging by the handy-dandy "Finale Product Comparison" seems to have all I would need. I'm wondering if you guys have experience with this and the limitations. These are some issues I would hopefully like light shed on:

-24 stave limit (does this mean 24 lines or 24 single staves per score?)

-Score engraving (Is moving text and other objects around the score easy?)

-Jazz articulation (Falls, scoops, doits, etc.)

Music / Lead sheets?
December 29, 2013, 12:05:31 AM
I understand that NinSheetMusic has a massive quantity of sheet music already uploaded to the site for all to view, but why solely piano arrangements? I'm not too well-versed in the early history of NSM, so there may be a reason that I have not though of. NSM is a site dedicated to video game sheet music, but why just piano? Yes, it's true that piano is a very commonly played instruments, and arrangements are fairly easy to write for it, but why restrict it to just piano? For individuals like myself, who often use the sheet music on NSM as a basis for arrangements, lead sheets would be a better fit. For those of you who don't know, here's a lead sheet of a video game piece.

I can see why this would not be as good for some individuals. Not all people fully understand chords and how they work, so a direct layout on a piano arrangement would work best for them. However, for instrumentalists on non-concert-pitched instruments, lead sheets can be easily provided in transposed formats and are readily accessible without weeding through complex piano parts. There's pretty much no chance that NSM will completely switch to lead sheets, but I'd like to hear other's opinions on the practicality of this form of sheet music!

Yup. After a several month hiatus, I've come back to NSM to do some quality arranging and stuff. (Now that there's a new method of uploading and stuff with shadowkirby.) I probably won't do tons, BUT I'M BACK :D

Help! / Score Resizing?
June 28, 2012, 07:18:39 PM
Hey guys, I need a little bit of help with a Finale-related issue. I need a bigger version of this score, and since I don't own a real Finale product (besides Notepad) I can't really do that myself. All I want is the overall staff size to be bigger, like a conductor's score and still fits on letter paper (binding doesn't matter). Page number is variable. I need this ASAP, but no burden. :) Thanks!

Help! / Atonal Help!
June 24, 2012, 08:21:54 PM
Hey guys! So I need a little bit of help with some Pikmin 2 music...

The tune "Giant Breadbug" is very... wierd. Wierd in that I can't find any key center. If you guys could look at what I have now and tell me what key to put it, that'd be great. I do have a suspicion that there will be no key noticeable, and if that is truly the case, then help me with a rule on accidentals, as to which notes should be marked and sharps and flats (enharmonically). Thanks in advance!

STILL ALIVE
from Portal

"So I'm glad I got burned, think of all the things we learned,
for the people who are Still Alive!"

I arranged this because of a recent break-up I went through. It was a terrible experience, but I know I'll overcome it. I was inspired by Glados' quote. It's amazing how such a mindless robot can inspire humans so much. The "I got burned", in my case, refers to the breakup even, "think of all the things we learned" refers to what I learned from the breakup, and "people who are Still Alive" represents my friends and the rest of the people who I can help from my experience. Thank you Glados!

Is there a way to have a certain thread not show in the "Show new replies to your posts" button? There are some threads I don't need constant updates from.

Help! / Finale System Spacing?
February 27, 2012, 04:54:06 PM
Hey guys. As you probably know, I don't use Finale for my compositions, so I was wondering what the space was in between systems in Finale. Even if you don't know the exact distance indicated somewhere in the program itself, you could just measure the distance in between systems on some piano score in centimeters and try experimenting with Finale, you could probably figure it out. I'm just not sure what the measurement is. I want my scores to look as similar as possible.

Feedback / Articulations.
February 21, 2012, 08:14:20 AM
On most sheets that I've seen, there is a definite lack of articulation. Period. Even though most of these arrangements are played on piano, there is still the need for accents and stacattos and things like that. I can't name any off of the top of my head, but there are a lot of arrangements that seem to be just notes, which work fine for some people, but for the technically concerned ones like me, it's a real problem. Thoughts or suggestions?

Here I will post all my video game orchestral arrangements.

My orchestrations are very unique.
  • They are actually playable
  • Marked with dynamics
  • ZIP file contains several file types, including .xml, .mus, .pdf, .mp3
  • Individual parts

Note: The full score is to be printed on A4 paper. Parts are printed on standard Letter paper.

Next Upload: ANSA/NAXA (No one likes that anyway) ACDC Town

Music / Who Plays What? [TOO LAZY TO UPDATE :D]
February 19, 2012, 10:22:28 PM
I've been making some orchestral arrangements lately and was thinking about proofreading. Who will proofread my music? I thought to the members of our site. So I would like to make an inventory of who plays what instrument on this website. The inventory will be located in this post, so reply to this post with the instrument(s) you play. If your instrument is not on the list, but not obscure, then include it as well.

Feedback / Feeling the Pulse
February 19, 2012, 08:03:44 PM
I was looking at some arrangements lately and realized that some of them are not using time signature correctly. For example, on k-Night's arrangement of the DQ9 Overture, there should be a pickup bar of 1 beat before the fast section comes it, if you can thing of it. That pickup bar is not included, which makes reading very difficult. As a rule to arrangements, I think that time signature should be used with more emphasis. Time signatures do not merely provide an open field in which to put notes, but they define strong beats as well.

Feedback / Other than Finale?
February 19, 2012, 05:22:31 PM
From my experience with this site, I've noticed that most of the users use some form of Finale and largely deal with .mus files. I and a few others, however, use Musescore, bascially the free version of Finale. Musescore cannot handle .mus files, but from what I know, .xml files are compatible with both. Why not use those?
