Even at its inception, Christmas was less of a sacred religious holiday, and more of a way to make it easier to convert Pagans to Christianity. I'm pretty sure it's centered around the Pagan holiday of Saturnalia. Because, as far as I'm knowledgeable on the subject, at least, there no historical evidence suggesting that Jesus was actually born on December 25th. It was likely at some time in the spring (again, as far as I'm knowledgeable). So, Christmas has never really been about Jesus. It started off as a Pagan holiday involving a week of lawlessness, and evolved into the commercial spectacle that it is today.

Just because Jesus was born in April doesn't mean we have to celebrate it in april(if that makes sense xD)

And Columbus wasn't that bad of a guy.  People just make him out that way.  He did some preeetty great stuff.

I wouldn't know if this is the case at you guys's countries, but here in Norway, Valentine's day is barely even notable. No one ever gives chocolate and cards to the person they like here.
Some girls headbutt the person they like though..

The difference is that Valentine's day was pretty much made into a holiday by big business, whereas all the other one's just got taken over.

This pretty much I guess.
Also every other holiday actually has had a purpose since conception.
Saint Valentine's day isn't even about the guy anymore.
