Help! / Re: How do you convert a .Mus to a .MP3
February 11, 2009, 05:01:32 AM
You could also save the file as a midi file (if you have finale notepad 2008, which is downloadable for free) and then use a midi to mp3 converter... there are several ones out there, most of them demo versions, that can be used for 30 days... And if you use one that supports different soundfonts the quality is awsome. :)

PC / Re: IWBTG - I Wanna Be The Guy - Hardest 8-Bit game?
February 09, 2009, 05:13:22 AM
Uh, I just watched some videos about the game at youtube and realized that there are several ways to play the game... for example... At the begining, I went down to the bottom of the screen, then to the plattform at the right, through the pseudo bossfight and now I'm at this terrible place with the blocks that move up or down when you touch them... but it's also possible to jump up at the begining and then pass some apple trees... Does anyone know if there's a difference between the two ways? Do they lead you to different endings?

Wow, the game is terribly hard. o_o
I can't even go past the first level. o.O
I've made it to the bottom of the second screen... but this stupid moving block alsways moves to some weird places and I always fall down. v.v
I think I should put some transparency on my screen and mark the places were the block appears... then I'd always know where to jump next. xD

EDIT: Yay! I've reached the balcony but then the bad guy killed me... -.-
EDIT²: Wow I just reached the second level! :D

Help! / Re: Midi to mus converter
February 07, 2009, 04:09:28 PM
Wow, thanks for the hint! :D
I've downloaded Finale Notepad 2008a as a demo version years ago, because the full version was 100$ or something like that... I didn't know that there was a free version out there! :o

Help! / Re: Midi to mus converter
February 07, 2009, 01:54:02 PM
Well, unfortunately I just have the demo version of finale 2008, so I can't save or print it... and finale 2005, which I use to arrange my submissions (xD), can't open midi files.
Okay, I just got an other idea: is there some (hopefully not too illegal xD) way to get a newer verion of finale which can open midi files for free? :P

Help! / Midi to mus converter
February 07, 2009, 01:03:06 PM
Hi!
Do you happen to know if there is a program which can convert midi files to mus? I've already googled it, but I found just one program that doesn't work at all.
I'm not asking for such a program because I want to turn the midis from vgmusic to sheet music but because I composed something using Anvil Studio and now I'd like to play it on piano, so I need it as a mus file...
Can you help me? :)

Oh, I love pokémon music! :D
It reminds me of the times when I was little and used to play my brother's red version! ^^
Maybe I'll make some arrangements, too...

@GreekGeek: It sounds great! I actually don't like the music in the Pokémarts, but this one sounds very good!

Quote from: Harvest on January 28, 2009, 12:23:17 PMThis means they rather make money instead of have something they can be proud of. [...] THEY HAD IT IN 05, but somewhere down the line they took it out in the pursuit of money. [...] he did seem to have some regret and wants to fix it through "expansions".
Just like I said... it's a money-craving company.
I mean, you just said, that they obviously didn't want something to be proud of, because they wanted to make money. Well, why should they sell a great game (Spore '05) for 50$, if they could sell the same game with a boring basic version and a lot of expansions for 200$?

Quote from: Harvest on January 28, 2009, 12:23:17 PMLook at GTA, it certainly isn't a casual game, yet it sells millions every time AND gets reviewed extremely high ever time.
Well, unfortunately almost every game developer wants to make casual games, nowadays... And as you can see in the sales figures of games like Sims2 and its expansions or MySims or Spore, they obviously have a lot of success with this tactic.

EDIT: I just skimmed over the last link you posted... Of course, all those things would make the game better and would gradually turn it into the game it should have been... but there are so many ideas, that Maxis just won't bring all of them into the game, because many people (those who are real casual players and are ever so happy that there's a cute and creepy expansion pack) won't need this... well, maybe they'll make some expansions with the stuff from the list, but, well, expansions... so we'll have to buy them  for 20$ each... And as the list is very long... we'll have to spend an awful lot of money.

Wow.
I guess you're right.
They promised so much and they could have made an awsome game, but for some reason they didn't. I mean, there's so much they could have packed into the game. So much strategic, tactical gameplay. I thought that the civilization and tribal phase would be like Empire Earth... and that you could discover really amazing things during Creature Phase... and that space phase would be endless fun, because you could do everything... So, yes, I was actually looking forward to a scientific game which is fun, though...

Well, when I bought it, I was amazed - at first.
I admit, it was fun at first and I really enjoyed playing the game, though I was disappointed that they didn't make all their promises true. But... well, I reached space phase within a short time and... I actually created 3 other creatures, turned them to tribes and to countries and finally to interstellar empires and tried to play them differently. One empire was very martial, one wavery peaceful and one bought all the planets they could get... But... after sometime it became boring, because there was nothing special. Nothing that made them entirely different from each other. It was just... boring.
I tried it again, with a new creature, but I stopped playing before I reached space phase. Why? Because it was all the same... There was nothing that made me move on, because everything was exactly the same as it was when I played my other creatures. There was no "wow, that's new" and neither was there a "cool, I've never done this before"...

So, after all, I think the game might be fun... if you don't know all the old videos like the one you posted and if you buy it for 20$... But there's simply so much lost potential. They could have made such a great game. But they didn't...

Oh, and I think you overdo things when you say Maxis and Will Wright are evil... You know, Maxis is just another money-craving company, you know, that's how all the companies are. If they weren't, they wouldn't be able to survive in the world of business...
And, maybe I'm a little bit naive, but I think Will Wright didn't mean Spore to be so bad...

Thank you for your comments! :)

@mantis985: I've tried to do all the copyright things, but unfortunately I still don't know who composed Surge Hideout... and I think you're right about the quarter and the 16th... I'll fix it.

@Brassman388: It's in a 6/8 time? Hm, maybe that's why it was so difficult to do all the stuff with tied an dotted notes... I'll make a new version of it in the right time signature.

I'll make a new version of Surge Hideout and I think I'll have another look at The Bitter Taste of Truth, too... maybe I can improve this one, too... But I'm afraid I won't be able to upload the new versions in next time, because I have problems with my internet... as soon as I do something more complicated than chatting or being in a forum, the connection says "goodbye"... I hope I'll be able to fix this problem soon, too. ;)

Well, thank you for your help! :)

Help! / Re: MP3 files
January 10, 2009, 10:30:32 AM
Wait, I found some alternatives... unfortunately they're also quite expensive and the quality is terrible, so it's probably not what you're searching for...*click* *clack*
I just tried the shareware versions and I guess they use the same way of converting mp3 to midi as the fullversion... You can try them, but they even turned simple melodies to gibberish.
Well, I just wanted to tell you that there are more of those programs than one, though it seems that they're all very... unuseful.
So I think using your ears and some patience is still the best way to turn music into notes, though it can be challenging. But hey, I think that's why the sheet music on this site is so special! :D

Quote from: Nana1Popo2lol, just wondering if there was a way or program to allow u to convert Mp3 file music into notes on the screen.
like u can do with midi files.
I'm not certain, but I think I've heard that there's a programm called "Melodyne", which can do this... unfortunately, it was said, that the program would cost about 500$, because it's very difficult for a program to convert mp3 files to notes... and I don't know if the program is already available or if it does actually work...

EDIT: Oh, I remember... I read it in a newspaper article... they said that the program could differ the different instruments in a mp3 file and then it would separate them and then the users could see the notes of the different tracks and they could even change them... or copy them into another program. ;)
