Gaming / Re: is the site back up yet

Here. Now, have fun! And while I'm at it, see over your grammar a bit. We can't see you nor hear your voice, so we have to judge you on your writing. And bad writing makes you sound a lot more noobish than the case may be. Proper capitalisation and punctuation helps your post a lot - and makes it easier to read.

P.S.: Hope I didn't offend you. I know a lot of people have trouble with dyslexia and such.

That'll be one heck of a job. Just looking at all those will take two-three hours of consecutive downloading and playing. I can give you a couple of tips, though:

The SM64 "Slide" .mid is severely broken. Two thirds of the song is just the heavily overdone second hand (honestly, it sounds like someone dancing polka on the piano). The sheet is fine, though (NOTE: I'm a noob. It could in reality be wrong as heck).

The SM64 Final Bowser theme is a duet, yet piano 1 has the primary tune all the way through.

The SM64 Medley needs a little polishing.

Outset Island Duet from LOZ:TWW could need a look too. It's hard to keep track of what piano plays what.

Good luck, all of you. Wonderful that you take the time to do this.

Feedback / Re: what is up with this website?
February 28, 2009, 01:59:56 PM
JaMaHa, I'm behind you on this. And my two øre so far are:

I'm pretty new to NSM, and piano in general. But I think it's safe to say, without NSM, I would never have started playing. The site disappeared two days after I had gotten Finale, and I would search for it every time I was on the Internet. The system as it was, seemed pretty darn good to me. Heck, we even had a Wikipedia article. The return of this site would be extremely appreciated by me.

As for "If we come back, would the active users do so too?":

Imagine that we finally got the system updated. That, late one evening, a topic from JaMaHa with seven exclamation marks in the title and several more inside the post, tells excited NSM users that the system is ready to roll on.
Three hours later, posts starts to roll in, congratulating the triumph. Excited members post the news on other game forums: "NSM is back! Still old domain name, but...!" And people come over to check. I bet a fair few of those who left, still arrange for other sites, and even if they feel that NSM has gone downhill, they are sure willing to check. Perhaps even see through their abandoned threads, thinking "Hey! I never got around to finish that!", looks at the responses, and posts something along the lines of "It's been a long time since (...) feel free to post your thoughts, I may check this topic from time to time".

Slowly, the forums are getting attention and new members, and this is the critical phase. If we manage to hold on the new members that may register because of the "OMG we're back!"-boom, the site will bloom once again.

So we should be able to recover. I'm pretty sure it will start going uphill. Perhaps it's time to rewrite our deleted Wikipedia article too?

As for the front page, perhaps it's time to post something along the lines of "We're recovering, and expect to be back soon", some cheery things that ensure visitors that we're not dying, but rather on the way back. And it may help the motivation too.

Come on, JaMaHa. You can do this, personally I'm hoping for by the end of March. And I'm looking forward to it. Good luck.

Now, it's been a couple of weeks. How's progress?

Sorry to be a pessimist, but remember, the site is dying if nothing happens. Without updates, no one will visit the site. And with no visitors, no contribution, no updates, evil circle starts over again. If we fix this fast, we won't have to climb so far to get back on the level NSM used to be on.

Request / Re: A Rush of Requests (Pokémon)
February 23, 2009, 12:02:51 PM
Sorry to bump, but another song has been added to the request list (Dialga/Palkia Battle from SSBB). Other people requesting Pokémon songs, post them here. See near bottom of first post for more pointless writing.

And thanks for all the arranging, people!

I know that it's been nearly six months since last post here, but I thought it was better than starting a new topic.

Has anyone progressed with this, or are more people willing to try an arrangement? I can't find sheets anywhere, and I think this is the best song from Diamond/Pearl (the SSBB version is even better). Please consider this, at least.

Updated link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=642AIUwadk8

I saw that a couple of you have done a few measures, if you read this, could you please send me a PM with what you've got so far?

P.S.: This song is mostly piano, but if any of you realise that it would sound bad if played on piano, don't hesitate to tell me.

Just wondering, how's progress?

Good luck fixing it!

And I support the proposed domain name. ninsheet.net would work too, perhaps.

I guess Mario Kart Wii deserves an honourable mention.

Cruising towards the goal, only one turn left of the final lap, and I've been in the lead the entire race.

Huh? What was tha-

Now well, third will get me the gold trophy t-

Bullet Bill. Finished on tenth. Bad word.

No matter how good you drive, you may end up at some random spot because you're carpet bombed with items the last few hundred meters. An easy way to win is to stay at place 8 or so, getting awesome items, and bomb your way up to second, and put all your eggs in the "red shell basket". But if you take the lead from the start, you'll face four to five items in quick succession (how come the POW blocks always hit you one sec after the Blooper has appeared, so that you can't see it?), at the worst possible time. I've turned off items once, and as soon as I broke free of the cluster, I was in the lead the entire race. And won by 45 seconds.

Great news! Sorry if I've been a doubter (is that a word?). It will be great to see the site back, now all we need is a domain address that's easier to remember (I honestly have trouble spelling drshnaps)... but hey! We're on the track!

Now, on to polishing submissions, everybody!
#1691
Either that, or if it's been a long time since last upload/post in the topic and/or you have multiple songs, you could make a reply in the topic. If it's been a while, the topic will be far down the page, and no one will notice it if it just changes title. In such a situation, a new post bumping the topic up to the top of the page would be a good idea. However, if the topic is blooming with posts, a mere title change would be sufficent. As a general rule, always have the title up to date with the last submission.
If you have uploaded multiple songs, and really want someone to have a look, you should also reply, besides changing the title. More people will notice, then.

Lovin' the new updates. Was really looking for that Pokémon Healing music, though even though you arranged it from Pearl, I think it belongs under "Red/Blue", where it after all originated. It was just remade in all the later games, it's the same five tunes, but maybe with different orchestration.

And if possible, I think you could extend some measures in Champion Battle. The fifth page has only one line, and it's pretty crammed at the bottom of the first page, so you could extend it slightly (so you can see the "b"s and "#"s better) without making the arrangement longer.

Your arrangements are good, but I think you should announce every new upload so people easier can see when there's something new, again raising feedback.

For all I know, the site may need to be built from ground up again. The iconic domain name is taken by an advert site (must the guy who invented those have his fingernails cut off with an A4 sheet), the submission system has gone to bell, and member after member has left the forum.

Where exactly is the problem? Is it a bug blocking the submission system? Don't we have permission to host any more on the server? Are there issues with coding that the mods can't handle? Why is the database still working, after all you can still download, but with no possibilities of adding more? Remember, as long as we don't know anything, complaints will be made. You may work the lower end of your back off with this, or do nothing, we can nothing but assume, and as no visible changes are made, people will complain as the time goes.

It would be very appreciated with an explanation of this, as detailed as possible. A separate thread where the problems are listed, where members may see what's wrong, and perhaps find something useful to be of help?
NSM won't survive many more months the way it is today. The main page is basically saying "Hi, we have a problem. Until someone fixes it, no updates. Check the forum". And the forum is filled up with posts by unhappy members stating that it looks like nothing is or will be done. If we get a mod/admin that can fix the bug, that could be all we needed. The guy wouldn't have to stay a mod, he could fix it and get back to his usual space in the community. At least, let us know what the issue is, and why it doesn't seem like anything is going forward.

However, once we get back on track, the site can bloom again. After all, we have a thriving community, and a lot of excellent sheets ready to be submitted. Make the first update a big one, let there be known on the main page that we're back, and members may return by themselves. If we manage to recover, and give the impression of it too, NSM can soon be back to the wonderful site it once was.

Thanks for starting the repairing process! MediaFire can be a pain sometimes, and it's irritating when you don't remember where you put all your files that were uploaded. Let's all hope that you can get through some sheets for the first update batch!

I saw that you reuploaded a Molgera song, and appreciate it much, but could you also reupload the song from the battle itself? That crazy flute tune that was also used in SSBB? It's one of my favourite video game songs ever, and I would very much like to hear what it sounds like on the piano.

Thanks in advance!

Standing applause and hats off for Pokémart! That one was seriously good, yet made in a so short time after the request. Very well done mister!

Too bad I'm not able to play it yet...

Now well. Hopefully, that time will come soon. *leaves PC to practise*
