Quote from: Maelstrom on September 05, 2020, 02:47:44 PMI am very mixed with the intro section. The strong melody line feels sandwiched between lines and doesn't have room to be as powerful as it needs to me. This is up to you whether you do anything or not, but I can see this working better and being easier to play:

I like the way it is currently with the LH bass part, but I'm going to try messing with it.  I don't like how the higher RH sounds currently.

Quote from: Latios212 on September 10, 2020, 03:39:34 PMThere's no lower limit to the length of a sheet. Aside from the two themes being related, is there any other reason you want to combine these? Just thinking if someone was looking for "Katt's Theme" specifically, "Medley of Allies" might not be the most obvious thing to find.

I understand there is no sheet length limit, but I thought it would be handy to have both small ally themes on the same sheet.  If you would prefer I keep the songs separate, I'll go back to Static's edited version and upload that and keep Bill's theme for another time.

QuoteI think a better name suggestion could just be "Bill's Theme / Katt's Theme" seeing as EarthBound has a few sheets like that such as "You Won! / Level Up / Game Over". Of course, that's just if it's decided that both of those should stay in one sheet. Since they're both short enough to fit on one page and since they are both allied themes, I personally think it's okay

I agree that this would be a better title format!  From a search standpoint I agree with both of you.  I guess I wasn't sure how the to combine different songs if that was the way to do it.

Quote from: Static on September 06, 2020, 12:56:28 PMLooks really good! I don't really have much to say here, so here's your sheet with the tremolos added.
I also moved the title within the margins; before it was sticking out a little.

If it looks good to you, feel free to upload this version. I approve.

Thank you for the Tremolos!  I think I may have figured out how to add them from MuseScore this time around.

Hopefully this isn't too much to ask as far as reformatting/note review, but I was figuring the piece was too short at 4 bars, and committed to also writing in Bill's Theme.  I'm referring to this piece now as "Medley of Allies" because the piece contains the themes that play for the two allied pilots (Katt and Bill) in Star Fox 64 you can run into.  I don't know how to correctly get the text boxes to look like they do in NinSheet's animal crossing sheets, so apologies for the sheet looking rougher than when you handed it off to me.

Help! / Medley Question for Finale NotePad
August 31, 2020, 10:00:40 PM
I'm thinking of making a medley with just two songs and envision it to look like this.  Is this possible in Finale NotePad or am I going to need to have two separate .mus files and have a real Finale user do the merging?

Hi again, and thanks for the edits/feedback!

  • This is definitely too fast; the note values and the tempo marking should be halved
I should've seen this one... when I went to figure out the tempo I felt the offbeats, but for some reason I didn't rationalize that the feel certainly slower.  Tricked by the eight notes in teh opening; not sure why I didn't pick this up because I also did listen to the Star Fox Zero version and that's pretty clear with the more jazzy bossa feel there ::)

Quote
  • I don't know if you can add tremolos in Finale Notepad but it would be nice to include one alongside a crescendo for the last chord

Tremolos are not possible in NotePad unfortunately (I tried to put a tremolo on my Bounty Hunter submission to no avail), but I agree that fits with the timpani roll on last chord here.

Quote
  • You're missing some harmonies in the opening part, and instead of a low E on the first chord it should be a low A that the RH could play, while the LH could take the G
  • in the new measure 2, the A should be raised an octave; also you could add more harmonies to the sixteenth note line here in the RH, but it's okay if you want to omit that
  • The last chord sounds too dense imo, and the lowest note should be an A, not a C (I don't even hear a C at all tbh); you should take some notes out and/or redistribute some

I think I struggle as an arranger sometimes when it comes to picking out harmonies.  And in other instances, I find harmonies that I trick myself into hearing! ;D   Hopefully the last chord is properly changed now, though I once again agree a tremolo would feel/sound more appropriate.

QuoteMaybe you could rethink the 10th stretches in the LH for those with smaller hands, but I don't have any suggestions for that as playing the C#'s in the RH is awkward, soz
My fix is an attempt to kill too birds with one stone.  Although it sacrifices accuracy of octave, I made new measure 2 LH A all the same octave.  As mentioned above, in my harmonic struggles I sometimes forget about those with smaller hands when I make the chord changes.  I wish I had a keyboard/piano to play this out at but my current irl situation doesn't allow that unfortunately.

This stuff wasn't confusing at all though! Accents sound appropriate where added.  Changes have been made and resubmitted for review.  I did add another lower octave to RH melody but I am not opposed to just doing the two original octaves because they definitely stick out more in the piece to me.  Hope that didn't wreck the last chord density again.  I though about adding a low B for LH there but I didn't think it fit; hope it's not too awkward having five notes in the chord (thought it was appropriate to double the A in the chord)

Feedback / NinSheetMusic MIDI Youtube Playlist!
August 13, 2020, 09:58:40 AM
Sometimes, I just wish I could hear a ton of arrangements all at once.  I know this might sound a little silly to some, but I do get enjoyment out of listening to the piano midis that come from people's sheets.

That's why I'd like to propose to NinSheetMusic the idea of making YouTube videos that could act as playlists - it could be by series, console, arrange, or a certain theme (calming, study, etc.)... basically a vision to create something similar to stuff like LoFi hip hop compilations.

I know that there are concerns about midis and using them without attribution, but having a NinSheetMusic compilation with each arranger attributed would eliminate that, and if everything was centralized on the site's official YouTube channel.  It would seemingly be pretty easy to edit them together, combining PDF images with the midi to make the videos (and maybe using Synthesia if someone has that).

I'd be down to giving this one a go!  I'm currently waiting to get two submissions on the site, but I am looking to start something new  ;D

Would you prefer one piano?

So I have a couple things to note about this arrangement and the state that it is in.

I worked from MuseScore into Finale NotePad, and during the file transfer, I lost tremolos that were on m7-m8 beat one RH.  Additionally, I had a RH clef switch from m12-13.

I have attached my MuseScore version of the file as reference as to my true intentions in both of those places; do note though that beyond the aforementioned points that the .mscz file is outdated so don't really use that as a basis for submission review.

Additionally, the measures are really bunched on page 2 so much that they are in the header title.  Some of the crescendos and decrescendos are also a bit messy, so I'd really appreciate someone with real Finale to fix that up!

Feedback / Two Site Things I was Wondering About
August 05, 2020, 09:13:16 AM
I really enjoy using this site a lot, but I was wondering if these two things are being considered or have been considered for the main site.

1) A search bar for the main site: I appreciate the drop down menus that were instituted with the site overhaul, but there are times where I wish I could use the main site and type in a game or song and save a few clicks.  I'm sure that this is idea has been floated before but I was wondering if anything is happening with onsite searchability improvements in the future.

2) Browse by composer: I understand that this might be even more of an undertaking than the aforementioned from a technical and archiving standpoint (or maybe not since the arrangers are all hyperlinked with pages), but I think there's a real potential value in this to both arrangers and game music aficionados.  There is information and data that could be available on NinSheetMusic that could be a very useful resource, as there are plenty of games and soundtracks on here that have limited if no info on VGMdb or similar sites.

I guess another idea that could be cool would be some sort of community wiki that focuses on getting information on game soundtracks (though I know there are plenty of other sites that have soundtrack inforation).

Overall though, I really love NinSheetMusic and what it represents.  I've enjoyed printing off and playing arrangements over the last 5 years, and I don't plan on stopping in the future!

Quote from: Static on August 02, 2020, 08:30:50 PMLots of great arranging here, really nice work. The only thing I would suggest is to make beat 3 of m14 RH a quarter note; it doesn't sound like there's an 8th rest in the original. Also, The Pokémon Company should be added to the copyright info since they also published the game.

So I went ahead and fixed this and reuploaded... though NotePad flipped the board when I tried to edit m14, causing the measure spacing to be thrown a little out of wack.  Unfortunately, I think someone with real Finale is also going to have to reset the piece's articulation because opening the file edited by mastersuperfan in NotePad apparently did not carry that over  ::)

Also not sure if it's an issue but the m and o in Pokémon are currently practicing social distancing in the copyright line
