@ETFROXX, the video is probably right. Doing something creative (such as composing music) requires lots of practice to get proficient in. I'm just a beginner at musical composition and it feels so wierd, not knowing what to do next but being in charge of it by yourself. I suppose that once I compose enough I will feel like I'm more in the control, know what to do and the music will come out better quicker. Practice makes perfect as the saying goes. Maybe setting up goals/deadlines (as recommended in the video) would make the composing process less confused (I have trouble developing compositions further and finishing them).

@Dude, I congratulate you. I wish I didn't know who they are. :(

Quote from: Vallu on August 22, 2013, 02:58:45 PMHi, I'm Vallu. I'm a 16 year old Nintendofanboy from Finland. I love music, especially music from Nintendo games. That's why this site is so awesome. I also like to watch anime. My favourite anime is One Piece.

This site is about piano notes, right? Well, I don't even have a piano and I can't even read piano notes. I do have a keyboard and I play it sometimes. I can only play melodies of some nintendo songs and I can learn them by myself. That's why I haven't had the need for notes. But I'd like to learn to play with the left hand too and I'd love to learn to read piano notes. I just don't have enough money to take piano lessons and I usually spend my money on games anyway. I don't know if it's possible for me to learn to read piano notes for free by myself. If there is a good tutorial, please link it. I'm more than interested. :)

My friend (also a Nintendo fan) haves a piano (I sometimes play his piano too) and he takes piano lessons. He found this site when he was looking for ACNL notes and that's how I got here. I should spend more of my time on learning to play piano but I spend all my free time on playing games instead. I think I have a good sense of rhythm since I like rhythm and music games a lot and I'm pretty good in them too. Knowing how to play piano well and knowing how to read piano notes is one of my dreams. This site gave me a lot of motivation to start practising, so thanks. Even if I can't play piano, I can still get along, right?

Oh, I like to play drums and other instruments too but I'm mostly interested in piano. Sorry for the long introduction. It may have some typos since I'm still not very good in English.
You should learn to read music, it's one of the most basic and fundamental thing needed to start to understand music (not to mention get a huge access to crazy amount of pieces). Reading sheet music:

As for learning piano, here's the best book on the subject (ofc, you need to follow things and practice, not just read ;)):

And finally, welcome!

The main problem with N64 emulators and games for them is the quality. There is always something that messes things up, in Goldeneye the textures get blurry and some disappear or get funny colors. In Banjo Kazooie it goes black if you dive. In Donkey Kong 64 I don't remember what it was but it wasn't possible to play it properly and so on. A notable exception is Super Mario 64 which always seems to work pretty smoothly (although the sound can disappear sometimes). As for sales, Nintendo does sell some N64 games in virtual console so at least in some cases there is no excuse to use emulators because of lack of availability or no profits due to the second hand market.

Quote from: ALPRAS on August 21, 2013, 11:55:57 AMIt's not that I actually hate studying Piano, what I hate is playing the musics at slooooooow tempo, and all sort of techniques. Not so mention the scales and Hanon, I think nobody likes that...
Solution to your problem, the book called "The Fundamentals of Piano Practice". The author recommends something called parallell sets to achieve speed quickly and slow play to improve the movements etc. you use to play fast. He writes specifically about what is wrong with Hanon (quite many valid reasons, such as waste of time (better learn real pieces). But it's filled with technique, it includes all sort of things such as hand motions, relaxation, playing scales (thumb under vs thumb over), memorization (mental play) and so on and so on.

Quite a long discussion about Lang Lang. Earlier I didn't understand why there was a big fuss about Lang Lang (I haven't really listened to his playing) but the video Alpras posted explains it well, so thanks for sharing.

So, back to Greede, at 2:07 to 2:10 for example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9tTSx5SI6A) isn't it tenor voices over the bass voice? To me it sounds like high male voices rather than low female voices.

I could go on giving lots of tips how you should do but I won't since I don't have so much time right now. The basic idea however is ear training, that's the secret. There are lots of different ways to do ear training and plenty of different areas to practice. The most basic is to practice recognizing intervals, for example here. Once you've got a hang of it the next step might be start practicing recognition of rhythmic patterns and finding rhythms (while still practicing intervals). After a long while maybe you're ready for practicing writing down more or less simple melodies, this is a perfect site for this (all you need is to download all the mus files, have Finale Notepad installed, have sheet music paper and a good enough ear). I also recommend Theta Music Trainer for practicing many different areas of ear training (and also singing and music theory), can be good once you've got your intervals down (the rhythm games are especially useful).

Anyways, before arranging video game music it's a good idea to start with something simplier like for example two part counterpoint pieces for piano. Also there are lots of areas to practice like instrument recognition, chords, progressions, scales, finding time signatures, understanding structure of pieces better and so on. It's a long way to go and it will take lots of time and patience. Probably quicker and better ways to practice this but this is just one way (and I haven't described it in detail).
