I once tried to sell a Garmin GPS for $160. Someone contacted me through text that they were interested. The area code of their phone number was from New York. Obviously that's the first thing that tipped me off. Then in the message they said something along the lines of, "I will send you a cashier's check and add $50 for your inconvenience. I will also add $50 for the mover that will come to pick it up. Just send me your name and address and it should be there in a few days."
I went along with it, to see what would happen, gave them my apartment office's address and my last name. The check came, shipped from Chicago, and from a bank located in Arkansas, for an amount of $1,600. WTF. Obviously nothing added up. So I took it to the bank, explained what happened, they said it was a fake check and they were going to investigate.
I often get texts like that if I sell stuff on Craigslist, but I just ignore them.

TL;DR: Craigslist has a lot of scammers.

Well, I got a nice Les Paul guitar in great condition for a fair price. The guy seriously knew what he was selling.

It can be hit and miss. I have only tried to sell 3 things on Craigslist (didn't sell any of them there) and I haven't bought anything off there, so I'm not exactly well-versed with it

The only thing I've ever had happen was some troll or something
everything else always goes off without a hitch.
-meet in a public place
-make sure you both know exactly what time and where you meet
-make sure they are able and willing to pay for it
