Honestly, it never clicked with me. I never understood my friends who played Pokemon. Catching some weird monster/creature hybrid....no thank you.

Totally agree.
I haven't played too much Pokemon, but it's the music that made me fall in love with it.

Pokémon soundtracks have some really interesting compositions. There's literally something for everyone--take Black & White, which takes rocking catchy music like "Battle! (Trainer Battle)" or "Battle! (Team Plasma)" or "Driftveil City," mixes it with some really relaxed or uplifting themes ("Nuvema Town," "Anville Town," "Lacunosa Town") and throws in some really interesting or unique music like "Battle! Ghetsis" and "Route 12" to keep all ears hooked for the whole duration. I can come up with any number of examples from any of the games' soundtracks. They're great in that regard.
