They have really used up all their imagination by now.

And yes, I agree with you. You covered a good chunk of the "normal" Pokémon, but have a look at the legendaries as well:

Genesect/Genosect is just like Mewtwo. An ancient, powerful Pokémon who got an upgrade.

Tornadus, Thundurus and Landorus are powerful genies who roam around and play some significance to something. Just like Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.

Victini is Mew. Just like Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy and Shaymin were.

The rest of the legendaries, however, follow the formula of the fourth generation, with two big dragons (and a trio master), two legendary trios (the aforementioned genies plus the Musketeers), and another event-only Pokémon (Meloetta). Keldeo is a nice new touch, though.
