The concertmaster of the Philly Orchestra played violin at our college, and he was really good. Among others, he played Handel's Sonata No. 4 in D Major, Grieg's Sonata No. 3 in C minor, and Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy from memory.

Don't violin soloists almost always play their parts from memory anyway?
