Is there anyone here who likes the films of Laika? The four films they've made are Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, and Kubo and the Two Strings. I'm a huge, huge fan of their work and style of stop-motion and have been revisiting a couple of their movies. My favorite is The Boxtrolls, because it's super quirky and the animation is spectacular and the story is really sweet and interesting. Has anyone else seen that one, or the others?
My favorite scene in The Boxtrolls is a really intricate dance sequence where all of the puppets are waltzing in perfect time with the score. You have the main kid characters trying to dance their way across the floor, while the film's villain (who for plot purposes is dressed in drag) is shoving people out of his way trying to catch up with them. It's a really exhilarating and astounding bit of animation, and I've watched that particular sequence soooo many times just trying to figure out how they achieved the camera angles and fluidity of it all. I really recommend checking it out if you're the sort of dork who thinks stop-motion animation is neat.
