Meloetta

Hi! I'm Meloetta and I'm a newbie at NinSheetMusic, lol. I hope I'm posting in the right place... I'm an amateur arranger and I'm trying my hand in submitting some of my arrangements online for the first time :)

I have an arrangement that I would like to be critiqued first before I submit it for the main site. It's based off Pokémon: A Trainer's Journey, my Symphonic Poem for Orchestra. I hope you guys like it!

PDF: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y5p4rifekbaleei/FinalBattle_NinMusic.pdf?dl=0
MIDI: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fd9vkdkyw76egvc/FinalBattle017_NinMusic.mid?dl=0
MUS: https://www.dropbox.com/s/blt9ohtp4ffe6tu/FinalBattle_NinMusic?dl=0

And here are the YouTube links for your reference:
from the actual game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWokB4Ec5Og
from Pokémon Symphonic Evolutions (which I based this arrangement on): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq08ynqSaD0

Am I posting the links correctly? lol

Welcome! :J

Yes you posted in the right section and the links are fine. And your arrangement is great! Although I'm sorry to say that as for now orchestral arrangements aren't allowed in the main site... But that doesn't mean you can't share them here in the forums!

As for critique, I haven't gone over it thoroughly but I can say it's really good! All the dynamics and everything are perfectly placed and I can't think of anything wrong with it, only that the first page is blank both in the mus and in the pdf, but that's something aside the arrangement itself, so nope.

Impressive job! Hope to see more of your works soon!

Glad you liked it :D It's a shame that you guys don't accept orchestral arrangements yet.

I'm currently working on prepping two of my orchestral arrangements - Skyrim: Dragonborn Theme and Pokémon: A Trainer's Journey - to post here in a week or two, and have some constructive comments before I start making a piano reduction and submit it for the main site. With that said, am I allowed to add a solo instrument or SATB voices when I arrange the work for Piano, or is it strictly for Piano that I can only submit?

-Meloetta

Edit:

I decided to just upload the Skyrim: Dragonborn Theme unedited with the ninsheetm URL at the bottom because other than the format, everything else looks (I think) acceptable to get comments on how to make it better, or tips on how to make the Piano arr. from my score. Just know that this arrangement was made in 2012, so it may look weird... Hope you guys like it! :)

Oh my.
That was incredible.
I have no other words.

Do you take requests?

Edit: I don't anybody can check those notes for you.....

As for condensing it for piano, that will be hard. It might be nice if you could do both a duet and solo piece. If you're doing both, focus on the duet first. Choose the most important voices and put them together. Then choose the best voices from those for the solo arrangement.

And it might help if you find better voices, but I don't know how to do that.

For the Skyrim piece, I'm thinking of just condensing the string section & SATB for solo piano. I mean, it is basically 80% the whole work when I arranged it. For sections where there are interweaving brass lines/melodies, I'll just replace the Violins for the brass and keep the low strings. What you think? A good strategy?

Why is this super small? Lol. But anyways... Generally yes, but not right now. Usually near the end of the year, I'm busy writing orchestral arrangements for my old HS' Gamer Symphony Orchestra :)

Edit:

Here is my first draft at a Piano reduction of the Dragonborn theme. The intro is how I want it, but the first statement of the theme obviously needs work lol.

Btw, I forgot to add in the .mus file that the first 4 bars are Bass Drum cues lol.

That main section/theme sounds great!

And as for requests/suggestions, I was going to recommend this song. It sort of fits with what you've been doing. This song would also sound great with an orchestra.

Yes. So far, it's turning out great!

edit: That eighth-16th-16th-eighth sounds like a pain to play, btw. But that's nothing compared to my still WIP revision of Serpent Devouring the Horizon.

OMG! Why does it have to be that piece? It brought me back some bad memories of not being able to beat a certain map, lol. But music-wise, it does sound like an interesting piece to explore... Especially with lyrics that is not available to the public (or at least not that I know of). I guess I can use vocabulary abstract on it :) I'll put it on my list and get to it one day.

As for the Skyrim Piano arr., thanks for the feedback! I finished it early...I think, lol. Do you think it's good enough to be submitted and be accepted the first time?

Pseudo-Latin?

Btw, my Skyrim Piano arr. is up and found on my previous post. I would appreciate it if you give feedback on it :)

Only thing I can point out is that the tie in measures 46 and 94 is missing the tied notes in the next measures. Seriously, you don't really need feedback! Your arrangements are already perfect! :J

Your orchestral arrangement of Dragonborn sounds impressive btw!

Zunawe

Posting for notifications because both of those orchestral arrangements were fantastic. And while I'm doing that, a few hints:

Organizing all your links in your original post makes it easier for other people to locate them.
Using the url tag can make organization easier and posts nicer to look at.
[url=http://www.website.com]Text[/url]
And also direct download links are made if you put files in Dropbox's Public folder, right click them, and select "Copy Public Link".

But I just like to format things, so don't take this as site rules or anything.
You know you've been playing too much Dragon Quest when you're afraid your Hershey's Kisses are going to flee.

I program things

Corrected on my .mus file. Thanks! :) Btw, do you know when I can start submitting for the next update? The last one closed :(

I'll try to make them better next time. Adding links in those format is not my thing yet, lol.

Edit: WOOT! I'm finally JUST done orchestrating my favorite arrangement to date :) Have a look! It's a rough draft, but I'm just so excited that I just can't wait to share it lol...

It seems that the submission system has completely been changed, and here are the guidelines on how to submit. Wow now it's much simpler. O:

Give it a try with your piano arrangement of Dragonborn! :)

And the orchestral arrangement is simply wonderful! Great job!
