Oh yeah, the cellist in my string quartet dropped her cello at the concert today before our last piece as a full orchestra. The neck broke in the middle, rendering her unable to perform Vivaldi's Spring with us.

How unfortunate.

I find that the less I mess with the audio, the better luck I have regarding it crashing

yeah you're totally right,
and the less you mess with percussion as well.
I also find that once a specific file has crashed (and you already have an earlier version of the file you can go back to) it continues to get worse, the more you start over with that file (at least with some files). There was this one time I had to give up on a file, and start a new document.
